Scooting into work from Queens to Manhattan (POV)

- Right before I moved out of NYC I captured what it's like to ride my scooter into work. It was a beautiful morning with some fun close calls. :-) This is from 61st Street in Woodside, Queens to 26th Street in Manhattan.
Because people have asked, here are links to the lock that I used in NYC to lock my scooter, as well as the cover I purchased to protect my scooter from the elements:

driving scooter in America with that kind of music in the background really feels like playing GTA hahaha
America is gta
Imagine if 1 out of every 5 cars we saw on this video was a scooter. Traffic would be SO much better.
I love how cool people are in this country; how you can just start a conversation with a stranger. It’s especially like that with bike owners. Love this video!
ANoteToSelf thanks!
Pay attention, kids.
This rider has 100% "spatial awareness".
Great riding!
VelociPat thanks, appreciate the comment!
He really does, didn’t see him snap his neck once. Efficient and friendly lane-splitting, too. I feel like people are a lot more easygoing and forgiving when you’re on a scooter compared to a bike, but you probably get bullied around more lol
but 0% gear 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Always come back to this vid. That's the reason why i got my motorcycle licence four years ago. Grateful to it. I ride my SYM 300 every corner down here in São Paulo. Thank You is the right thing to say. Stay well.

That scooter looks like an ideal commuter vehicle.
It is.
@Jimmy Sakura Gakuin Fan Why not?
@Jimmy Japan Love my scooter is a 150cc.
@Jimmy Japan Love , it's obviously bigger than 50cc. It got up to highway speeds
@Jimmy Japan Love A 50cc scooter can easily keep up with traffic. It goes 50km/h with a limiter, if you remove the limiter it easily goes 65km/h (about 40 mp/h)
Never been to the States so this vid is a nice opportunity to sight see the city without leaving your bed (:
I live in the US, and I don’t go anywhere either.
I know this was 11 years ago but I always come back to this video because it's what convinced me to get my 170cc buddy and I'm just in love. and now I'm doing these same POV videos. Love it. You inspire!
That’s awesome. Thanks for sharing! I’ll check out your vids.
Eh, I don't normally drive like that. I was show-boating for the camera a little. It was one of my last rides in NYC so I had to make it memorable.
Where’d you move to? Still scooting?
@@charkswitlazers New Hampshire. And still scootin! Same scooter. Just had it tuned up and she’s running stronger than ever. 👍 🛵
@@boz1200m3d dude I’m dying to move to NH. I’m in southern CA. Things are getting crazy here… enjoy it out there man and ride safe

Balls of steel. I'm getting stressed out just watching this (I live in upstate lol)
That was absolute fun! I've owned everything from motorized 2 stroke bicycles to dirt bikes and 2 Kawasaki Ninja 759's,but I'm a small town country girl...dodging jackrabbits running from cornfield to cornfield is rush hour traffic for me....you made me very happy filming and posting this...watching it over and over and feeling the satisfaction only a motorized 2 wheel ride can bring....thanks so much for sharing!By far my favorite video!😀😀😀
Considering using a scooter for my commute. This video was nice to watch and helped me imagine how I would do it
You are a pretty good driver, it must be so useful to swerve between all the vehicles like that, i bet in a car it would take you hours to get to work each day.
I think technically it's illegal in New York - you're not allowed to drive between the lanes of traffic, which sounds batty but that's New York for you.
The lil interaction w the other moped guy was super wholesome, and this whole video too! Very soothing, even though I was looking for vids of Tao Tao's and other 50cc's that I can drive lol
That was great! Friendly biker talk at the stoplight, decent filtering, Division flashbacks, great video.
I did that in the 90' with an aprilia sr50 from ridgewood, queens to 48, between 6&5. Nice video
Seven years later and you're still replying to comments... that's amazing! I really enjoyed the footage as well, although I can't say that the big city life is right for me.
David T. Come back in 14 years and I’ll still be here commenting. :-) Well, as long as UA-cam still exists then.
@@boz1200m3d I'll hold you to it, although I'll have to check out some of your other videos to pass the time.
David T. I have a lot more to post - but I need a new computer. Our current computer can’t edit/process the HD footage I have.
This just showed up on my feed and I just had to click and watch.
Oh man! I got to see NY AND see how traffic is on a scooter. I cannot wait to get one for myself.
Also love the dash on that scooter!
Great video thank you for sharing
V M thanks for checking it out!
many people can not afford to come to NYC and then to those who would be in your city and can not this video and 'a real gift
Dude! Absolutely loved this film - loved it so much! I SO hope I can get to the big apple one day! Thank you very much for sharing this, for us less fortunately ones who don't get to see these magnificent places, NYC being top of my to do list! Cheers x

This is so crazy. I can't even imagine how it must be to live in a city like that. Up here in Scandinavia we have no cities that even comes close to NYC, I would probably get claustrophobia within a day. Sick driving too, your balls are definitely bigger than mine O_o
Late ass comment but I just bought me a moped just using it to get to work and back not riding on the main roads just ride it around on back roads to get my thoughts together and to the gym right down the street from me but I just ride it no farther then 6 miles from my job and to the gym other then that I stay off main roads
@@NickGilbertkideazy1704 moped or scooter?
@Eternal Fight big bore kit
I ride a 50cc here in japan in a very similar fashion. Surprisingly as narrow as streets are here, there is even more wiggle room getting between cars than you seem to have there. I enjoyed your talk w the fellow motorist toward the end. 🤙🏽
My first and last visit (till date) to US was with my wife and started with New York city. Totally love the city and remember all the great moments we had. I must thank you for the wonderful video and a great ride through the city. You passed right by where we stayed for about 5 days; that was 2ve 32nd street right opposite loew cinemas. Thanks again. :-)
Thanks!
Hey there, it's a 2009 Kymco People 150. I love it.
Very cool video, I drove my 2004 Honda Civic to Manhattan from New Haven ct, It was so fun driving around especially through times square! There's just no place like nyc.
It's always fun in the city, if you like de Burgah
Thank you for sharing this. Your scooter is amazing! The drive is something out of vanilla sky... The sun with that fall warm glow of gold.... This would be a really fun Ride
Greetings from Finland.
A really great video.
New York has always fascinated me, someday I'll try to get there to see with my own eyes.
If you're into riding scooters as well, contact someone from the New York Scooter Club and I'm sure they'd love to show you around (on a scooter, of course!).
Such a great city, proud to call it home, hope you get to visit soon
No, not Eeki :)
Nice! :)
One thing I don't miss about Manhattan, the traffic.
Did that commute for 2 years on a vespa 250. Love riding through the city. Even made it liberty state park.
NIce ride, your scooter takes those pot holes & rough areas like a champ.
newstart1651 Thanks buddy
Thanks for this. I feel like I'm actually there. I did notice however that the roads need quite a bit of work done on them - I hope the government has been investing in that.
Yeah, NYC streets are not the greatest. I'd say the government is part of the problem. They're always doing construction and eating up the roads.
Beastie Boys yeah ... that's hard-core traffic dude - scooting looks fun to drive though
You don't know hard core traffic until you've been to India ..
Queensboro bridge 💜💕💜 thought you were going to be sandwiched by cars so many times 😳 loved the video 🌇
So many potholes only One life. Great video, really enjoyed.
Thank you for the ride, Amigo!! ☺
♥ it!
Damn this is a classic throwback video
i love the retro look of the bike.
I really loved that red Camaro in the beginning on the right! Love your video! I am from Jersey! Keep scooting!
Hey thanks! I’ll have to go back and look. People are always pointing things out that I never noticed. Ha! 🛵
Nice video! I own a vespa primavera 50cc, and now I am in the process of taking my motorbike license. I love scooters, cheers from Sweden.
I wanna thank you for this video, I hope one day before I day I get to see this city
thanks for sharing this video, im going to NY in some months and i'm impressed! NY is a beautiful place.
Now lets see the same run after a NYC winter storm!
No problem. ;-)
Wow 😯I love the vibe of the video with the music
Scooter's drivers in NY are so nice to each others. In Paris, we look bad at each others and start a nasty race when the green lights turn on!
Thanks from Italy!!!
great video.
That bridge goes on forever lol. Rides like this are perfect for scooters, open them up a bit on longer roads. Bitty short city rides ain't always good engine wise. Brilliant video, makes me want to ride mine right now ( UK 1.34am). Sweet ride Cool conversing with other riders, riders stick together man.
I have also a kymco people 2009. Tks for the video. Rodo (Buenos Aires-Argentina)
Honestly woodside, Astoria and Long Island city were the best places I ever lived. I miss it so much. Those were such cool neighborhoods, I could get to the city with relative ease. Shit was expensive yeah but I wouldn't trade growing up and going to school there for the world.
This is so cool, love the music as well. Soon I will be riding like this.
Fun video, I would recommend gloves i have rode for over 30 years and gloves are your friend for sure, worse case a crash, but also stuff flying up and hitting your hands it has happened to me many times through the years.. remember gloves.. carry on!
Thanks - it’s a good reminder. I do have some but clearly wasn’t wearing any that day.
Man... I thought it was a vespa! That Kymco is looking awesome. Thanks for the video, man!
Thanks!
This was great! Can't wait to get my 125 this summer.
i live in queens too and once i saw the cemetery on queens blvd, i got happy lol..
Calvary Cemetery
you were happy when you saw the cemetery? cool. you could grab a plot of land there tho. get the strap.
I love this! Goes to show how much different we are hahah. If someone stopped next to you and started talking to you like that over here in Sweden, you would think he was mentally ill or something. People try to avoid contact with others at all times. I wish I could go there sometime soon and experience this :)
did you ever end up going?
@@imstupidbutI am curious as well lol
Great way to get around if the weather is nice..Those rough roads and small tires make things a bit bumpy..Great video..
this is awesome, you are really love NY

From one ex-NYer to another: Terrific. Moved across the river shortly after you left, and also got a scooter (Vespa GTS300). Ride into Gotham roughly twice a week for work. Let's just say I take a risk or two less than you did in this vid (was a cyclist for 40+ years, and took more risks back then), but you're still my kind of daredevil: maybe a tad crazy, but not at all stupid. #respect
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it. GTS300 is great. And plenty of get up and go for crossing the river back and forth. I miss the city terribly. No daredevil stuff these days with two little kids. It's all slow country roads living here in NH now. Cheers.
@@boz1200m3dwow how is it to ride in NH. I live in queens and work in City and just was thinking of getting honda groom or Vespa. But just a little nervous. I have two kids also. Have a honda civic but wanted to ride once a week get fresh air. Any advice
@@yusufqcqnz Well, it's certainly a personal choice - especially with two kids. When my wife and I lived in Queens, we did not have kids yet. Truth is, though, even with kids I'd still want the scooter if I lived in NYC. There's a feeling of freedom and adventure that's hard to explain. I explored so many of NYC's nooks and crannies on my scooter - back alleys, side streets, different neighborhoods - you name it. It was the best. As for scooting in NH; it's nice. Calm, relaxing. Fun to cruise down country roads past cows and farms on a warm day. But no where near as exhilarating as scooting in NYC! Not even close.
@@boz1200m3d thanks I saw e scooter even some that are going at 50 mph. What made you get a Vespa instead of any other bike. I heard Vespa and piaggio are both great scooters. Thanks for your feedback. Did you ride bikes (pedal) also in NYC. Happy you like NH. I Would love to visit there one day.
Im from Scotland and was watching this thru my fingers!! Great video! 👍

Nice video. I will be in Brooklyn in two weeks. So this was helpful. I know what to expect!
Brooklyn is more like Queens than Manhattan.
Its a nice ride. Thanks for the video.
Gotta love the scooter talk😁👌🏾
Great ride and video!
Very smooth too given that you were riding. Was the camera fastened somehow?
I also wonder why so few people drives scooters in NYC...As you proved it's the best to save time in the city. Is it because you have efficient public transport? Or a matter or costs? Or night parking maybe? I scoot since four years here in Milan, Italy (sooooo much smaller than NYC) and I'll never go back, 10 minutes compared to 30-40 to go to work. A lot of people drives scooters here...
Ciao, I used a GoPro camera with the chest fastener/belt. Worked pretty well and didn't look funny sticking off my helmet.
LOTS of people scoot in NYC. But probably not nearly as much as in Italy! Would love to scoot there some day.
I am
Lol my mom lives in sunny side :D really close to woodside. I love your scooter :)
Just wanted to say thanks for letting me see NYC, it be nice if you just talk about the city while you riding the scooter. I'm getting my first sliverwing 600 so this is like a crash course on acceleration, watching the other guy , lane changes all good . Thanks again subscribe ✌🏽 be safe

Man, this is a 26-minute ad for mass transit, that is, if you'd rather not be crushed between a cab and a cement mixer. As a kid, I tried working as a motorcycle messenger using my own bike, a brand new 160cc Ducati, which the messenger work was supposed to pay for. Did it in midtown traffic one day and never even went back for my pay. Decided my new bike, not to mention my life, were more valuable. Anyway, thanks for the ride ... and tell us how you found a near empty lane crossing the QB bridge in rush hour.
Jay Schleifer That’s a secret I discovered after one too many times sitting in traffic on the Queens bridge. I noticed the other side of the bridge, which is supposed to be heading toward Queens, was heading toward Manhattan. And all the cars were cabs and they were doing highway speeds while I was stuck in traffic. I discovered that traffic enforcement allows for opposite direction traffic during rush hour on weekdays. What a discovery! Never waited in traffic again on that bridge commuting into work during the week.
thanks boz, that was amazing for a country bumpkin from texas like me to see. yeeeehaaaawwwww.
