    If you are a driving enthusiast and just drive around alone or as a couple, CX-3
    If you need more space, HR-V
    If you need more space and you are a driving enthusiast, CX-5

      +tokekkk I'm thinking instead of getting a fully loaded CX3 (which ive been saving up for a year now) maybe a mid-level CX5 2016 might be a more practical choice.

    When it comes to looks and driving dynamics, Mazda CX-3 wins hands down. On the other hand, when it comes to reliability and functionality, you can beat the HR-V.

    • @cadsux
      @cadsux 9 років тому +5

      +WuWei Xu Actually, according to Consumer Reports, Mazdas are more reliable than Hondas. In 2014, Mazda was #3, Honda was #4. This year, Mazda was #2, and Honda was #8. TBD regarding these two new models.

    • @Lucky8s
      @Lucky8s 9 років тому +7

      cadsux Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Consumer Reports. I find most of their information to be misleading on some counts. JD Power, on the hand, seems more reliable because they actually get their information from consumers. www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2015-us-initial-quality-study-iqs - Mazda is ranked pretty low in this survey. Seems like their vehicles experience quite a few problems, even when new. Talk about being a lemon.

    • @cadsux
      @cadsux 9 років тому +3

      Consumer reports is non-profit and surveys 1.1 million owners per year, and has been doing car surveys since the 1930s. JD Powers is a market research firm (thus can be influenced by $$$), has been surveying cars since the 1980s, surveys about 40,000 owners per year, and factors in dealer/service customer satisfaction. Which is why luxury brands rank high with JD Powers, and low with Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports rates cars at least after a year, and has Reliablility Guides which include models 10 or so years back. While JD Powers only goes 3 years in their dependability study. The point being is Honda quality has gone down, and I've owned Mazdas and Hondas.

    • @Lucky8s
      @Lucky8s 9 років тому +1

      cadsux I'm quite aware that Honda reliability has gone down in recent years, a shame really. But I'm also aware that Consumer Reports ranks car brands based on their road-test score and predicted reliability.
      Everyone needs to read this one quote from consumer reports: "A top score in our tests doesn’t mean a car will be reliable; conversely, reliable cars can-and do-score poorly in our road tests."
      All in all, I'd rather judge the reliability of a car based on those who have owned the car for a certain period of time (5 years or more for me).

    • @cadsux
      @cadsux 9 років тому

      Yes, CR buys their own cars and tests them for their scoring, but as I said, they also survey 1.1 million owners/ consumers per year for their Reliability Rating, which goes as far back as 10 years, as shown in their magazines and website

  • @micahnapier9631
    @micahnapier9631 8 років тому +3

    There's a bit of a misconception with the review of the trunk space in the CX-3. There's a two-way floor that allows you to either extend the cargo bay for taller items like your stroller there, or close it off and have a little secret compartment/hidden floor. Gives you a nice bit of extra room.

    I just drove these two models yesterday, as well as the Subaru Crosstrek. This was an excellent comparison and my experience driving both cars was similar to the reviewer. I opted for a used CX-3 from 2020 as I am not concerned with hauling a young family. The CX-3 was discontinued for the CX-30 as it does offer more cargo space, but I believe that added another 1k to the asking price and I was fine with the CX-3 space.

  • @jfazzuoli3813

    The CX-3 is looking to be the best "driver's" compact CUV by the press but does not offer a manual transmission and has less cargo/passenger space than HR-V. The HR-V offers a manual transmission and has loads more space but sacrifices sporting driving dynamics. So to sum it up, if you truly enjoy driving and need space, buy the Mazda 3 hatch 2.5L in a manual.

    It's all about public demand. Most people don't want a sporty dynamic CUV. If they did, the CX-5 would be best in class rather than the CR-V. Most people just want a good crossover that does just about everything well. I can predict that the HR-V will outsell the CX-3 by a reasonable amount.

    I don't have kids & yet I chose the Honda HR-V. I like the looks better myself. The Mazda CX-3 seats were way too narrow. It drove a tad better then the HR-V, but overall the HR-V wins out. • @mextijuas5
    @mextijuas5 9 років тому

    I test drove both.
    If you are a single person or a couple and like driving the CX3 is the way to go. it looks young and modern.
    if you have 1 or 2 kids the HRV wins. I'm 6'1 and on the HRV and sat very comfortable behind the driver seat afet I sat on it.
    cargo space is double of the CX3 so a stroller should fit.
    The CVT on a Honda is slowwwww, but it's a family car. who cares about a manual, it's 2015 people, get over with! I like a stick shift but only in a real sports car that I will drive on the weekends. For a small crossover that will be is socal traffic you want a auto.
    now at my local Honda they didn't have any HRVS and only a basic manual one. They are asking 2k more of MSRP because according to them they are in high demand. So it end up like 27k for a fully loaded one, with that money you could get a Mazda cx5 touring.
    next year if I could get a hrv for less than 25k I'll buy if not I'll get the cx5. by the way Honda you should put LED headlamps and projector on your cars, yeah, very modern inside, but outside the HRV looks like a 2010 car. Mazda offers projectors! led, I want better visibility.

    The demonstration with the baby stroller being difficult to put in the back of the CX-3 is a bit unfair. You can easily remove the cargo cover and it would fit in just fine. You can leave it off the car if you're going to be putting stuff in the back all the time. That said, that side by side shot between the CX-3 and HR-V showing the trunk opening clearly shows an advantage for the HR-V.

    • @inodesnet
      @inodesnet 9 років тому +1

      +Sam Pellegrene The CX-3 is better than Mazda's of past, but still a bit of drone. Their gram by gram analysis has done very well for reducing the weight of every vehicle in their line up - this is where every part is questioned as to if it's really required or can be changed to be lighter or removed completely. More noise supression equals more weight. They have listened to feedback and kept some noise deadening, but they still need more - even if its' another 20kg worth.

    Just drove a cx3 today and its ok, not too great rear leg room or space in the back but a nice quiet drive...for some reason in sport mode it can become a little sticky in gears...so a little tone deaf in spots...still m 6'2" and 250lbs and it felt ok for me, no leg rubs, no cramped feel but maybe a little cheap in the interior plastics.

      +sleeksilver No, I am not being sarcastic. All my information comes from personal experience. I own a 2015 Honda Accord and it has a CVT and I have never once had issues with it. My grandma owns a 2014 Honda Civic with a CVT and again no issues. My friend owns a 2014 Toyota Corolla and that has a CVT, but again no issues ever. Have you ever asked yourself, if these CVT's are as unreliable as I believe I wonder why so many car manufacturers are putting them in there cars? Even Germany is putting in CVT's for some of there cars. Wanna know why? Because they work. But yah know what I'll admit it, I'm not a mechanic I don't know the finer details of a Automatic vs a manual vs a CVT. Here's what I do know Commander skippy, I know that Honda gave me a product and it works. It runs, it goes, it takes all my music gear, and yah know it's one of the smoothest rides you'll ever have.

    I'm kind of torn, I was interested in the CX3 and still am but I was hoping it would utilize its space a little better. Its outer dimensions are almost the same as the HR-V but its inside dimensions are 40% less. Agree that the HRV is boring and I hated the CVT.
    I also somewhat need the height and was hoping it would be a little higher. I need the AWD as I might move back up north where it snows and its very convenient to have it equipped with some nice snow tires as well. At times in my area light flooding can occur, and though rare, it does still happen and I was hoping the CX3 might have a little more ground clearance.
    I love everything that the CX3 has, I just wish they the interior space was better utilized, and it was slightly higher off the ground. But I love the driving character of it, as I'm used to S2000's and STi's :P . I want to stay around the low 20's so this might push me toward another car somewhat near this market, which would be the Subaru XV crosstrek.
    The Crosstrek has more room than either the CX3, or HRV, it has a AWD standard which is nice, and has the extra clearance that I need for the light flooding I've seen in my area as of late. Things I don't like about the Crosstrek is where the CX3 excels at. Crosstrek design exterior and interior is a little bland especially compared to the CX3. I also don't like the CVT much in the Crosstrek but its not as bad as the HRV's CVT.
    I might save a little more and get the CX-5. It'll have the space I need, driving character I prefer, and its 8.5 inches of clearance will give me breathing room than the 6 inches the CX3 doesn't have. My current old CRV has 8.1 and just clears most of the flooding in my area.
    What I don't like is that its extra money that I didn't want to spend, and the insurance is also higher in the CX5 and Michigan Insurance is the highest in the nation.
    The Crosstrek is similarly priced with the CX3 and HRV with similar mpg, and operating cost.
    I might have to compromise with the Crosstrek, or save up more for the CX5. It doesn't help that my employment just announced that they're LOWeRING everyone's wages, FREEZING raises, (which I was due for my raise THAT WEEK ironically), taking AWAY tuition reimbursement, RAISING cost of benefits, and changing bonus structure so that it will also be lower.
    Yes looking for new employment hopefully that will pay me a bit more so I can get the Cx5 which I think would be the best match of what I need. ^_^;

    I purchased the CX3 the third week they were out here in Texas (late August). I really like mine so far. If you purchase the HRV get ready to call ahead of time to merge onto the highway and make reservations. Its slow.... and I mean slow... CX3 is a great driver right off the showroom. Its easily tune-able through orange virus for an extra 20-25hp for around 450 dollars. I love all gadgets and stuff. The screen rocks. All in all I made a great choice and don't regret it.

  • @midwest9040
    @midwest9040 9 років тому

    Hands down the CX-3 is the better looking and driving. That being said, I really think the thing to do is wait for Honda to filter down to the HR-V the new Civic engine- the 1.5L Turbo. It will then match or beat the CX-3 mileage plus out perform it in all stoplight races (if that is your thing).

    I think this is the first comparison video I've seen where the HR-v edges the Mazda. Valid points but the lack of power in that HR-V is a sticking point for me. Cannot imagine merging onto a busy interstate with a car full of kids with that HR-V - but I'm biased!

    If looks count for anything, then the Mazda wins, HANDS DOWN, not only against the little Honda, but against almost every vehicle on the current market.

    This is such a redundant category of vehicle. CR-Vs and CX-5s aren't really big and unless if you live in a very tight city, there should be no problems with those cars, especially with the backup cameras for parallel parking.

    • @chewsir
      @chewsir 9 років тому

      +WretchedDrake I agree, but the CX3 has a much tighter turning circle, which gives you the edge when locating an available parking spot in a crowded city. Trust me, i know this first hand.

      +Michael j I am 6'2", it felt tight and then I found the seat height was at full height so I got to wind it down...more room then the passenger side of a 4 runner.

    2-wheel drive small crossovers are useless. The first generation Focus Wagon fits a large stroller along the trunk, not across, and there is plenty of extra space left. It handles great and has enough passenger inside. And it looks better than the HR-V, which is just plain ugly (the CX-3 looks awesome, though). It is a shame that Ford does not offer the Focus Wagon in North America anymore.

  • @dysonlu

    What's the point of a crossover with lousy cargo space? If I want fun to drive, I wouldn't be looking at a crossover is the first place.

    so...buy the Fit/Civic or the Mazda3 for a better overall vehicle....got it. Too many compromises with this size of CUV and not enough space to enjoy it.

      Michael Leibowitz hahhahahah, yep it probably is but it's nice to know. the reason why I made that comment is because my CX 5 is faster than a CRV RAV4 and a ROGUE. it was 1 of the determining factors of why I got the MAZDA vs all the others
