  • I wanted to give you guys some tips and suggestions on upgrades for the Coralife Biocube 32, if you really want to keep your tank healthy for a long time, I suggest you use the recommended upgrades. I forgot to mention in the video that I also recommend an Automatic top off system. I linked below the one I use, I had the Hydor before and do not recommend it since the contacts are always messing up.

    I think this is the best reef tank to start of with.

    Good video! I really appreciate the opinions on your gear, too! I just got a BioCube 16 for Christmas and even though I began keeping marine fish back in 1986 (the Stone Age, as I call it), I really didn't dabble much in reef keeping, which was in its infancy back then and was EXPENSIVE! I've kept two tank-raised clowns in a ten-gallon tank with a homemade trickle filter built-in for the past 7 years, and thought it might be fun to try my hand at reef keeping. I'll try my best to learn and get proficient with the BioCube 16, and maybe move up after a couple of years. Again, thanks for your opinions and a well done video!

    The hood is one of my favorite parts, keeps fish in and makes the tank look complete

    You're not really supposed to vacuum a saltwater live sand bed. It houses a lot of beneficial critters and bacteria that you want to stay in the tank. That's why you use the clean up crew like the hermits and snails and sand sifting fish and stars. To catch and clean up the debris on the bottom of the tank and keep it clean.

    Nice job for average person to understand, I’m 83 and I understand it. Only question is do you remove hood to install light?

    I just bought one and with the tank, stand, and other items needed, I've already spent at least $1500 and I'm not even done yet. I still need heaters, live rock and a few other things

      @@RaptureSniping yeah that's insane! I have a few fish in mine and a bubble tip anemone. Plus some corals are getting delivered today. For everything I have, I've spent $5000, easily. 😖

      Dang you’re definitely going hard. I found the best deals locally on offer up or Craigslist. I live in Southern California and we have good fish stores as well. Also once since you have coral you can grow it out frag and trade it for new coral. Just some advice to save money if but maybe you got enough to not care not sure lol either way good luck!

      @@Imafed42069 I couldn't find what I needed locally and ended up buying just about all my equipment from Bulk Reef Supply. The amount I've spent includes the fish and coral I've bought so far. I have $700 in frags. Can't wait for them to grow out.

    I love that light way better than the compact or leds that come with it do you run it on 100%?

      Sorry for the late response. Since these lights don't have a digital display on intensity, I'm not sure the exact number. You can't play around with it to get the correct intensity for your corals.

    Hi. I'm just wondering why you went with the 240gph circulation pump (recommended for saltwater tanks 10-15 gal) and not the 425 gph that is recommended for saltwater tanks 15-30 gal or even the 565 gph for tanks 20-40 gal?

    • @tkrbk
      @tkrbk  Рік тому

      Hm, I got the recommendation from bulk reef supply. 250gph is recommended for a 50 gallon tank. So 240 is good enough for 32 gallons for me. I have tried higher and I didn't like how quickly the food would get shot back into the filters before the fish had a chance to eat.

    not sure if your still on youtube or get comments still, how do you deal with the evaporation without the hood?

    • @tkrbk
      @tkrbk  Рік тому

      Been slow to reply recently. No real way to deal with evaporation, that's why I had the ATO to fill the tank with RO water to avoid salt creep. But I live in Colorado where the climate is dry, so even with the hood, there was quite a bit of evaporation, also with the hood, you'll see salt crystals all around the edges.

    Jeez, after listening to this review, on an aquarium/kit that has relatively good reviews though it still has issues like you've stated, I don't think I'm going to buy my son any fish tank for his birthday. It's a money pit and far too much work. Crap, sumiting Everest would be easier.

    Way too complicated to follow. Obviously an experience salt water user testing a tank that was designed for beginners. I was planning on adding a protein skimmer but he's not clear on where or how to do this - I don't have a clue. Some of the other upgrades he admittedly bought several years ago - Biocube may have improved since then. Then there is the recommendation of not using white sand but black gravel. Based on about 30 videos I've watched they are all kind of split on what the best substrate is. What would have made this video really awsome was if he showed you how to add the protein skimmer and other upgrades instead of just stating like he did it. As a beginner I have no idea where in the back to stick a protein skimmer much less how to connect it to the other media (maybe you don't have to). Even though I thought I was prepared for setting up my biocube I'm starting to think some of the things I've purchased are wrong and way to late to return them. The video just lost me = now I'm afraid to set up my Biocube.

      Just setup your tank you don’t need any upgraded lightning or protein skimmer .
