- Installing the Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer from Coralife in my BioCube Saltwater Aquarium - After trying the original Coralife protein skimmer in my BioCube 32 as well as the Tunze 9001, an viewer told me that Coralife updated their skimmer to a Needle Wheel version. I have no idea what that means but I thought I would give it a go as I had struggled with the other two. Here is my install and initial impressions. Thanks!

Thanks. Your video was helpful. I am new to the biocube 29 and just ordered this skimmer. I was thinking of putting it there thanks for showing it’s possible.
Glad to see this is working better than the older versions. How do you like it after a couple of months now?
It’s still working good. I clean it weekly and get a bunch of crud out of it. Water seems clear but nitrates are very low. Not sure if that’s the cause but seems to be working well. It’s a bit hard to adjust with the valve so I adjust the Mount which raises or lowers it in the water. Thanks foe the comment.
Any update on how it’s working today? I just installed one of these myself and always struggled on “where the bubbles should be” ha
It worked great until about a week ago when the pump died. I bought a new replacement as it worked so good. I'm hoping the new one will last longer.
Does it bubble real bad in the tube making micro bubbles mine is making a ton of micro bubbles does that slow down?
from what i've heard, every protein skimmer will make a lot of bubbles when you are first setting it up and after a week or two it will regulate and stop it
Is that a 16 gallon tank and are u able to close the lid
This is a 32 gallon tank and the lid closes fine. This skimmer is adjustable up and down. It is designed to go in the newer BioCube 16 gallon but must go in the center chamber.
@@DollarDIY if it goes in the center chamber on the biocube 16, what do you do with the media rack? Switch the rack to fit in chamber 1 instead?
Thanks for any info you may have.
From their website: NOTE: with the BioCube 16, you will need to put the Skimmer in the middle chamber (which means you will need to remove the media basket & drip tray). It will not fit the size 14 BioCubes.
I think I id rather have the media basket than the skimmer.
can you close the lid with it on the 32 gallon bio cube?
Yes. It hangs on the divider. I have a In-Tank media rack so I hang mine in the aquarium side. This skimmer actually works real nice for a small one.
So it closes if you put it on the divider, but I also use the In-Tank media rack and does the lid close using it the way you installed it (which is the same way I will have to install it)? Also, if the lid does not close, do you now just leave the lid open all the time? @@DollarDIY
@@HairyTee Yes, it has to be on the divider and works with the In-Tank rank. The lid closes fine.
Thanks. So to confirm before I buy it...the lid will close when inserting the skimmer with the In-Tank rack installed (basically how you had it set up in the video)? I don't want to buy it if the lid does not close so just want to make sure. @@DollarDIY
@@HairyTee As I installed it the lid has no issues closing.
Did you leave your heater in the same chamber as skimmer?
Yes. The skimmer and the heater are in the right chamber. It is tight but they both fit.
Does your lid close with it on there??
Yes. The clamp is on the side and is adjustable up and down.
Will this fit in 2nd chamber with intank?
I have my media rack in the second chamber but if it’s clear there is no reason it shouldn’t fit.
My intank rack fills the second chamber.
How can I purchase it.
There's a link at the bottom of the description.
Face palm.... dude you seriously cover the inlet of the filter with the clip because you didn't want to remove a little piece of plastic... lmaoo
There's 2 inlets and the skimmer doesn't restrict the flow. It works real good but I appreciate you pointing that out as I did have to check it to make sure.
