Suggestion for a follow up video: One potential use of this head is as a shadowless fill light in portrait photography. However, portrait photographers are often picky about how catch lights appear in the eyes, and an additional, circular catch ligth may not be what you want to see. So, perhaps a video that explores the pros and cons of using it as a fill light in portrait photography could be helpful.
Pretty impressive, I already own every accessory for my ad200 and will definitely be adding this one, would hope to eventually see a diffuser also as an option with the ability to use the grid. Just hoping
I don't understand the excitement. Without a modifier, this flash gives a flat, shadowless light. It's boring and uninteresting. With a modifier, it gives a modifier light that is indistinguishable from the result of any other flash. The question is, why is it needed at all?
I think it depends on the potential application. I'm actually excited about it for photographing senior high students, some editorial work and I could even see this shooting post wedding ceremony festivities. Seems like shooting wide (24-35mm full frame) with this is the way to go. I like the punchy, somewhat nostalgic look it gives. Having said that , I have mainly been using a beauty dish recently and love the drama it brings.
Dear manufacture Godox! I have found a serious issue in your new product about Godox R200. I have Canon R6 + Godox AD200pro + Godox Xpro-C. There is no HSS high synchronization support on R200. I activated HSS high synchronization on my Godox Xpro-C, and icon is on. The shutter speed is only 1/200 supported. If I shoot at 1/320 or 1/1000 there will be only 5% of the picture will come out another part of picture goes dark. I have updated firmware of my Godox AD200pro to 1.5 but HSS haven`t work correctly also on R200. I suppose the problem is in firmware. Please FIX THE PROBLEM AS SOON AS IT POSSIBLE. PLEASE HELP US TO USE YOUR GOOD PRODUCT R200 WITH HSS MODE.
The model didn't look too happy about the shot with the cabbages. But more seriously, I just sold by Profoto B10 for which I'd bought the Clic Octa. This looks like a really good solution for run 'n' gun, as you say.
sooo great Godox included the reflector, really makes this a great tool... making that ring effectively larger makes a huge difference in the catchlight of eyes
6:38 - question. You were at 1/400th of a second, but the ring flash doesn't have high speed sync feature ? I just got one and am trying to do some research.
This is interesting. Although, I like the results from my alien bees ring light it is bulky and heavy. My AD200s are extremely versatile especially for on-location events. This will be a good addition.
I had a alien bees ring light, but it is too many parts to is, now with the Godox AR400, everything is in one small package and 400 watts. Got it about 3+ years ago, great light.
Just to confirm: This works with the original AD200 as well as the AD200 Pro? Or not? It looks very useful, as I most often have to work with no assistant. I am not sure I am coordinated enough to use Aries' little-finger technique seen at 4:35, though!

How did you manage the picture at 10:45 with 1/400s? Mine R200 with AD200pro doesn't support HSS (it's mentioned in the manual under 'warnings') and beyond the x-sync shutter time it's nearly not visible (Fuji, Nikon).

Bought this and about hour trying to fix hss mode by upgrading firmware (trigger, strobes) finaly i found in instruction that says it has no hss. Why? is it construction problem or it will be enabled in firmware update?
Ok i tested force hss mode by modyfication of "head identyfication" (ad200 thought that is connected to twin head adapter) and it's not working properly. So I know that it's not software limitation
Godox alrerady have a self contained unit, Wistro AR400. But at close range, 200ws is going to pump out quite a bit of light. Understand at 100iso F8-F16 to bring down exposure at midday, it may struggle a little bit.... but if left as bare bulb (no reflector dish attached) I reakon it should be enough. just depends how far back from subject camera is
This would have been the ultimate, but it means more weight to carry. Think it will probably be enough power, even when shooting directly into sun, as with this tool, you are generally within a few meters of model... so 200ws should be enough

I understand that it's a product advertisement but what a stupid solution to hold the camera in one hand and hold the tripod arm with the flash in the other? when you're in the circus, maybe someone else will applaud for it. if you have a manual lens or a medium focal length camera, let's not fool around like this. Beach photography can be done with any flash. The problem is when you're shooting against a shining sun and you want it in the picture.
A question that's easily answered by listening to what he says at 4:14, and in the following scene. If you don't have the space or time to put down a lightstand, you can handhold the light. It's not a *unique* feature of this light, it's just versatile and you have that as an option. If you were using a manual focus lens or longer focal length you wouldn't be doing a run-and-gun shoot anyway, so that's an irrelevant situation. (Can you do it? Yes, grab your Leica and zone-focus it all day. Would you do it? No, at least certainly not for commercial work)
I don't think this photographer is a good demonstrator for the new R200. His photos just feel like trash, no offense, but if you want to sell something, you have to make it looks good first, I swear I can take much better photos of that incredible model with just my Iphone
I don’t shoot fashion but I sure can see how this could be an asset for my corporate and architectural work
