You're my hero of the day. A few days ago I spent hours trying to figure out all that stuff and your video explains everything in such a simple and easy to follow step by step way. Big big thank you!!!
Two days on the phone with Google and Go Daddy with only a 404 to show for it. 20 minutes after I made the changes you recommended our site was live. Thank you so much for this video!
THAAAAAANKYOU!!!!! I spent the whole day and had three 1hr+ long calls with godaddy and no one was able to explain it as clearly as you did. Most importantly, they said there was no way to use the naked domain with google. All my addresses and subdomains are working now. I'm so happy!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Live long and prosper and healthy and happy!!
At this point, this is a little outdated to what I see when I go through the steps, but it still was the first thing I found online or on UA-cam that actually got me across the finish line because of the addition of the A name instructions. Thank YOU!
Thanks! Also worked with my server called SERED (not Godaddy) and worked as well. Took me like 2h to find the right video for this issue because SERED is not that popular as Godaddy but the solution is the same.
5:00 - I looked up the IP 174.129.25.170 and can see that it forwards naked domains to a www, but doesn't GoDaddy have that functionality built in already with the 'Forwarding' feature at the bottom of the DNS management page? Very helpful video, thanks.
After setting all this up, do I have to publish it right after? Because I still have a lot to work on on the website. Andwill the changes after publishing be any problem or are those just kind of updates for the website? And thank you a lot for the video!
You are the first tutorial I've come across that explains I had to verify the property first! Thank You so much! I have spent hours trying to figure out why the verification kept failing.
If you refer to the wwwizer IP address this will work for everyone but if you want your https naked domain to redirect we suggest using NakedSSL instead.
I found this really helpful! I just gotta a question.. where can I find Ip that works? when I search for my url this keeps popping: 404. That’s an error. The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.
Hi, thanks for sharing the information, this been a life saver, in a few minutes you have resolved hours of struggle. What I found that the procedure is quite straight forward, but not documented on neither go daddy’s or Google online help. Again thanks for your help!
Thanks for the great instructions yet that didn't work for me . I am getting the This URL is already in use by another Google Service error. I have checked all old Google services that I have used but didn't help me. My Godady is not forwarding anywhere too. Any help would be great.
best video ever, yisus!!!! this saved me, 3 days working on this, very good. .....but i can say it was a little bid tricky the part of the fixed ip address on the A DNS record, in my case it was not needed but at the beginning I got confused trying to look for the fixed ip of my google site, but then things stared to work out, i had an error with 2 repeated record of the www entry, then I eliminated one, put it correct, then it all worked.
The only reason you can't publish is if you've not put anything in the web address box: it doesn't matter what you put in there (don't try your custom domain) as visitors are only going to use the custom domain, but you have enter something to publish
None of the changes suggested in the video affect email, so you've maybe accidentally changed something else: GoDaddy support should be able to help you.
@@Steegle hi! I talked to godaddy and they told me changing the IP address was the reason I wasn’t getting my emails so I just changed that, thank you so much for taking the time to respond, I was a great video 👍🏽
There are only two reasons that the custom URL option does not show: 1. You're using G Suite to make your Google Site with and if that's the case you add the custom URL through the G Suite admin panel - see www.steegle.com/google-sites/how-to/map-domain-web-address-g-suite 2. You're using a personal Google Account (or a Gmail account) to create your Google Site with and you're not signed in as the owner - only the owner can add a custom URL. You'll notice at 2:58 in the video UA-cam displays a card for the G Suite/Google Workplace version of this video as a hint if you can't see Custom URLs. If you are using Google Workspace then you will have already verified the domain anyway, so it's most likely you are not signed in with the owner account.
I followed the directions and everything seemed to work but when I would go back to google sites to set up domain from a third party it still says need to verify but google says domain is verified. So confused and any help is appreciated. Your video is great and help me get this far but google sites is a bit frustrating.
That sounds like you're either trying to verify the domain with a different account to the site owner account or you've verified only a URL and not the entire domain. All you need to do is follow these instructions to get it working, nothing else is required.
@@Steegle Thank you for the reply. I am actually trying to do what your video shows Assign a GoDaddy domain to Google Sites but it will not let me. I followed all the steps but when I go back to google sites it says the URL is not verified. Please verify ownership. When I do the google search console it shows Ownership Auto Verified. So what could I be doing wrong? I even added the CNAME www ghs.googlehosted.com and the A @ 174.129.25.170. Help!
@Steegle.com I was able to find my error. I had the different verification code that was assigned to my domain name noted in go daddy. I updated to the correct one showing on goggle search console and it worked. Thanks for your patience and your great video.
That IP address is provided by wwwizer - see: wwwizer.com/naked-domain-redirect. Anyone can use it but your domain provider may offer something that you can use.
If you have added the CNAME and then added the custom URL to your site it's normally up within 30 minutes. If that's not the case it's normally the CNAME that's the issue - what's the custom URL you're trying to add.
We've never heard of it not working all countries as this is not something that wwwizer have put in place, so it maybe something your country's government blocks.
I am following your instructions and things were going great until I went in under settings to click on add custom domain in google sites the link is not there can you tell me what could be the problem the domain was verified by text and everything through google console
The only IP we mention is for wwwizer so if you want to use wwwizer then use the IP we suggest but if your domain provider offers its own naked domain redirect service then use that.
Google Forms does not offer the option to point a domain at them. You can, however, point the domain to a site and embed the form in the site or your domain provider may offer you redirects to your domai URL can redirect people to the form URL.
This only happens for one of two reasons: 1. If your domain is already verified you do not need to verify it again, you just add the DNS records to your domain and make sure that your site is set to public.
Thanks for this, however when I get 'choose a custom URL from your verified domains', only one of my domains shows up, not the domain i'm looking for. But both domains are active in my domains.
That means you haven't verified the domain in the Google Search Console with the same account that owns the site - you need to verify the domain with the site owner account.

Correct: GODaddy does not provide SSL on naked domain redirects without purchasing additional services, whereas Google Domains offers this at no extra cost.
I think you need to add extra-record so that you can just enter your domain name without necessarily adding www. to your domainname.com Here: CNAME Host (ghs.googlehosted.com) Point to (www.yourdomainname.com)
No: naked domains cannot be CNAME records (that's a globakl domain standard). You can use NakedSSL to redirect if you want to make the top-level domain move your visitors to your www URL.

Which IP address you are pointing for the A record? and why do you do that
It's a third-party service called wwwizer. The reason we do it is to redirect the top-level/naked domain to the www address.
