  • Overview and tips for replacing the water pump and serpentine belt on the 3.0L V6 Mercedes Turbo Diesel Engine (OM642). This video was done on my 2012 GL350 Bluetec, but the tools and steps involved should be the same for any vehicle equipped with this engine, including sprinter, other bluetecs and the Dodge/Jeep vehicles that use this engine.

    Hey bud, nice video- thanks for the detailed explanation of the tools needed. Helped me greatly in a situation where i was stranded!
    With regard to your belt issues. Check that your belts match the pulley grooves. There are different # splined belts for these. I would imagine if they mated incorrectly you might get wear issues!
    Also, i had the belt tension bracket on mine fail, which I believe has a bulletin and updated part.

    would have been nice to see how you took all that stuff off. Once you get to the water pump it is easy.

    yea this is not a water pump issue. oil is probably dripping from the middle oil filter housing seal down on to the belt the belt shredding them.....

    George, thank you for this but there’s some really critical stuff you brushed past..like all the shit you removed to get to the job, like the throttle body.
    Do you have a vid on the power steering pump replacement or a tip or two on accessing it.
    Again.. thanks for this but sure wish dealing with the ancillary pieces had been included

    Hi George I’m having the same issue. Now 3 belts in 2 months. I see I got a bad idler pulley. and I notice I bit of noise on my water pump.
    I have a question. Did you also changed the belt tensioner?
    and. Did this work fixed your issues?
    Just wondering if my balancer has an issue. Of small wobble.
    Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

      Mine started shredding belts first when the PS pump seized (which wasn't a particularly run experience or job that I did not video). Like you, on the 3rd belt I took more drastic action and replaced the WP and idlers. I did not replace the tensioner as it was holding tension within range and the pulley felt smooth and quiet.

    Watching this video. I assume I can replace the fan belt without removing the radiators? It's just I have a V6 and it doesn't look like this and I have a viscous fan that needs to come off first.

    • @GeorgeKistler
      @GeorgeKistler  2 роки тому

      The only thing that needs to come off for the belt is the turbo charge pipe and silencer at the front of the engine. Otherwise 17mm 12pt socket to pull back the tensioner and it is a straight r2.
