In the early 90's my band opened for them on 7 dates of this tour, they were the nicest guys ever, and like a bulldozer live!!

I enjoy the occasional headbanger like this track . This was played on my local alternative rock station and I saw them open for Ministry, probably 1992.

    Dear Chaps and Chappettes,
“It’s okay, it is just not my cup of tea.”
I was teaching at a Korean University from 2000. One of the things I used to do for presentations was to put students in teams of 3 or 4. They would choose a music video (with the lyrics in English), we would watch the video together and then students would take turns talking about different aspects of the video.
A really popular song for a while was:
Limp Bizkit - Take a look around
My feeling was, “It’s okay, it is just not my cup of tea.” Especially after hearing it so many times…..just not for me. And then I stumbled across:
Limp Bizkit - My Way (William Orbit Remix)
To this day I consider the production on this song to be just fantastic. I am not a fan of the genre, not really a fan of the band, not that big a fan of the original version, but I really love that version of the song. So be careful with your “cup of tea”.
Today’s uplifting 2 minutes of beauty comes from that same period in my life:
The Magnetic Fields - Love Goes Home to Paris in the Spring
So simple, so beautiful, such happy memories. Two and a half minutes to just lift up your day. I have no idea why this song is so good….but it is.
    Keep up the good work

Helmet were this weird link between noise rock like you would hear on Touch & Go or Amphetamine Reptile labels and Pantera and that kind of thing. Therapy occupy a similar middle ground in my mind although they were much more melodic.

Like Jon, my first thought for the vocalist was Ozzy. Also like Jon, my usual approach to metal is to leave quietly while not drawing attention to myself; and this track just left me cold.
I blame the Stones for starting all that Satan-bothering nonsense.
Paige Hamilton follows my rule for American names - it sounds equally likely the other way round.

get better headphones. can't evaluate music on those crappy little buds! Helmet's first 2 albums were fantastic----"Strap It On", their debut was even more raw and grating in the best way possible. "Unsung" was an exercise in minimalism that had all the subtlety and aggression it needed to be powerful.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry to hear you're struggling. Can I suggest better quality buds? Works for me.

Thanks - it's added to the list. I'll keep my spade handy.
      Cheers, Jon.

If you’re after some metal-adjacent recommendations, the current band Chat Pile are pretty good . They are probably more post-hardcore than metal in my book, something like The Jesus Lizard: their song ‘Why’ is a powerful one.
