- A sulphur-crested cockatoo named Snowball garnered UA-cam fame and headlines a decade ago for his uncanny ability to dance to the beat of the Backstreet Boys.

Now, researchers reporting in Current Biology are back with evidence that Snowball is not limited in his dance moves. Despite a lack of dance training, videos show, Snowball responds to music with diverse and spontaneous movements using various parts of his body

How can I become a scientist that studies dancing parrots?
🛸We were wondering the same lol 😅
First, you have to learn calculus.
Lol!
you have to trick some agency to fund your important dancing parrot research. I wonder what these researchers wrote in their grant proposal lol
@@martinzitter4725 and string theory well.
this is the kind of scientific study that we need
Y'all killed me w the side to side & butchered me w the headbang lifted foot.
The headbangs had me rolling.
Lol
Headbang lift foot is really air guitar
The lifted foot is this 🤘
00:50 headbang with lifted foot: "Oh yeah! We RULE, baby!"
The headbang had me in absolute hysterics! Go Snowball! 🐦
for me was headbang with lifted foot.
You should watch Snowball's Tribute to Michael Jackson. He headbangs like crazy to Black or White.
Me: what do u think will happen in 2020 ( thoughts)
Scientist: we identified all 14 dance moves of a beautiful parrot.
Me: I ain't even mad
LOL
Yeah....about 2020...
@@josephparrotta1159Seriously!! :D
I love the other bird in the background trying to learn some moves🤔🤣
That bird gots better dance skills than me😂
That is one talented parrot! It knows more dance steps than an average human.👌🏻
If only my parrot would learn how to dance instead of just cursing throughout the day. 😒
I had a parrot who would make the Nokia phone beep all the time
-Not Cool Exspesally when you have a Nokia
Jessé Middleton ツ lol!! What words does your’s say?
@@jakenapier6925 The "F-word". What's funny is no one in our house cuss so it's still a wonder how he acquired that. 😅
Maybe you should have TAUGHT him to dance instead of cursing! :)
@@JesseMiddletonUK Maybe no one in your house, other than the bird cusses around you. Funny thought, a bird giving a audible version of "flipping the bird".
This had me laughing so hard i couldn't hold it at all, what an intelligent animal
Feeling music is more an emotional thing than intelligence thing.
@@happyhaze1526
Ok but whales have the biggest percentage of their brain devoted to empathy/emotions, and yet they aren’t dancers like birds are.
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 It could be that they dance a lot but we don't recognize it as dancing (yet), could be because of their size. They have songs so dancing is very likely. BTW, not that many species of birds dance, at least now as we think or call their movements 'dance.' A lot of singers, but only a few dancers. Like the ratio of ballet dancers to all the rest of human beings. . . :)
@@happyhaze1526
Well I have a Pionus (small parrot - not remotely as big as a cockatoo), and he _LOVES_ dancing too. :)
@@happyhaze1526 intelligence comes with more emotion
1:13 Working that Vogue. You go girlfrie...er, Snowball.
Gaurdian finally has real news.
You are lame.
@@offbeat65 Shitwaan E. Am I?
Just because you disagree with news doesn't mean it's not real c'mon you're an adult
I'm quite surprised that a Grauniad journo could spell 'parrot' lol
I know, Jeffness - it's refreshing. But maybe the parrot disapproves of Brexit.
A testament to how smart they are. My birds all have had different personalities and different dance moves or lack of.
Finally some quality content.
That’s more dance moves than I have lol
Same here! The next viral video could be us failing to copy a parrot lol
:))
The headbang with lifted foot is actually a fine piece of air guitar 🤘🏻
If I tried to do that headbang with the lifted foot, I'd probably end up in the hospital.
This is possibly the best youtube video ever. All hail Snowball and those dedicated scientists!
16 different types of people at a concert
But at the same concert??🤔🤨😂
Ha ha! Right?
I love and adore my hubs but I’ve got to say Snowball has more moves than he does ❤️
Will Roberts
More than you could even imagine 😂
It's so disgustingly cruel to keep a bird in a cage
The “headbang foot lift” is his devil horns 🤘🏻
My parrot just used to say “Hubba-Hubba”, “ I seeeee you”, “stop lying!”, “to be or not to be, Horacio”, some random cussing, and the typical wolf whistle, but no dance moves except for head-banging. When I took the cover off his cage in the morning, he’d say “FINALLY! I’ve been awake for HOURS!” that he mysteriously did not learn from us.
Somebody played a prank on you.
This bird is more of a heavy metal rock fan than this background music.
I wanna be a scientist who studies scientists who study how many dance moves a bird has
0:45 that headbang was everything
Acts just like my cockatoo and probably everyone else's cockatoo as well. Of all of the birds that have owned me over the many years that I have had birds, hands down, cockatoo's are in a league of their own!! Not a bird that I would suggest for anyone, as they are very high maintenance, scream, chew and will drive the neighborhood crazy. I left once to the grocery store, only to return to the police at my house when I came home. She screamed bloody murder the entire time that I was gone!! NO joke!! I love her beyond measure, but she has done tens of thousands of dollars in damages in the years that I have had her. They are little Hoodini's that can escape from just about every cage situation. Stick to a parakeet people as large birds do NOT belong in cages or the pet industry. They live a very long time and are prone to abuse due to their behaviors and they are frequently rehomed for this reason. You MUST be committed for life if you have one, because they are so intelligent and form strong bonds with their humans and grieve their loss tremendously!!! Just get a parakeet, okay? I assure you that parakeets are great pets!! I promise!!
Someone needs to take this bird to a heavy metal concert. Or give it a wee guitar...
That's not headbang with lifted foot. That's headbanging with the irons up 🤘
‘Pose’ is so 😎 cool.
When I was growing up, I had a parakeet that would actually try to break dance by spinning on his head on his food tray.
I only recently heard about this Snowball. Growing up on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia in the 60s we had a pet cockatoo also called Snowball. He certainly danced as my mother sang at the kitchen window. Tijuana Brass was big at the time so I would sing Tijuana Taxi to him and we would have a great time dancing.
Aww! That is way too cute!
0:48 oh ffs look at him go
I didnt think this would make me crack up, but by the end Snowball got me.
Wish I were a pirate, with that virtuoso bird perched on my shoulder. Arrhh!
Forget global warming and space exploration. We need to look further into this. NOW.
OMG, Snowball is the best!!! I am laughing so hard.🤣
Have you watched Griffi the dancing cockatoo yet? He doesn't do the normal bird dancing.
This guy is so rockstar it's not even real.
I like the headbanging with lifted foot and counter-clockwise dances the most
I want a snowball to lead my Zumba class!
I loved that, he's a great bird. You are lucky. kisses from Canada.
Next: Scientists discover Neapolitan ice cream has three distinct flavors!
Wow. Maybe he could start his own dance studio and teach other birdies!!
Elephants dance too, of their own accord (I know this from Oregon Zoo concerts, which are located close to the Elephant enclosure). Apparently dancing is not unique to humans.
Awesome!!
Those poor elephants are in one of the worst elephant enclosures, in which we the people Oregon voted to invest millions to expand it, which of course, they never did. FREE THE OREGON ZOO ELEPHANTS!
Flamingoes.
@@heatherkaye8653 I haven't heard the elephants complaining any.
Elephants are so precious.
People from the 70s: by 2019 scientist would have discovered and be able to fully muster nuclear fusion.
The Guardian in 2019: Scientists discovers that Snowball the cuckatoo has 14 distinct dance moves.
0:28 - "I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter"
Headbanging with lifted foot is almost too metal🤣👏
Snowball, the Bob Fosse of the parrot world! 😃
Now this is the kind of news I want on my recommendations!
That's 15 more than I have.
Such a talented bird.
Have you watched Griffi the dancing cockatoo? He doesn't do just the normal bird dancing moves.
Best pet ever
I wish I could still move like that!
He has more dance moves than me!
"Well hun...today at work I interpreted bird dance....no no no, not THE bird dance, but A bird dancing" :)
Scientists? More like Dance Enthusiasts.
There's no reason to give this a thumbs down. This animal's awesome 🙌😍💕😂
Cuteness overload!!
Nobody is talking about how the parrot in the back doesn't ever stand on his wooden stick. He must hate it lol
Nah. He's just on Prozac because he got depressed at not being able to dance.
@@davidwright8432 😂
I thought the same, a giant beautiful bird with no room to spread its wings. None of these birds need be in captivity unless they are rescues and can’t be released.
rosemerie wood they are rescues. Snowball is one too and has become the ambassador for the rescue over the decade. She advocates for birds to stay free but has said that’s the one thing she can’t give snowball or the others because they’ve never lived outside of captivity.
Omg head- banging aghhhhh 🖤🖤😭
When the migos come on and you gotta do the hype 0:41 🤣🤣🤣
Amusing to imagine a bunch of pocket-protector-adorned nerds in lab coats scribbling notes in a huddle around a dancing bird.
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen on youtube.
Headbang with lifted foot should be named AIR GUITAR.
It's amazing the rhythm ❤birds have !
Does this mean the end of America's Got Talent Show to be replaced by Scientific Judges now!
Awesome! I loved Snowball the first time I saw her dancing!
...yeah but can he do the running man ?
Party for scientists: "Hi, I'm Bob and I'm studying particle physics at FermiLab" "Hi, I'm Susan and I'm studying genetics at the Institute for Human Genomics" "Um. Yeah, Hi. I'm Steve, and I'm an assistant to Professor Patel at Tufts. We study...a dancing parrot"
Definitely deserves to be Viral! How sweet! Would love to hear what he has to say now. Bet, there is plenty! Lotta Personality!
UA-cam, WHY AM I ONLY SEEING THIS NOW?
How adorable!!!! Animals are amazing! 🥰🥰🥰💕
That's not a lifted foot, that's playing AIR GUITAR!
Finally! Some wholesome content to watch before going to work
What ever happened to Snowball? Hope he's doing well. Alwaysed loved his dancing
Hahahaha! Headbang with lifted foot really got me. Lol.

Absolutely amazing!
I love that one of the moves is simply called "headbang". LMAO
I wish i could get a bird with those moves.

That Headbang with lifted foot was awesome!.

This is an important video!
Nobody realized they wrote over the font of the original video to make it look like their own?
Hit em with that semi-circle low
And I discover these birds live longer life than the average human.🤭
