When the 'check engine'-light in fact means 'replace engine'.
"Check how much of the engine is still inside the casing"
Local mechanic: it’s going to be a busy year, we are fully booked
You could say they're flooded even
Local scrapyard: ....its gong to be an even busier year
Lots of parts
He is already
Seized engines most of the times are unfixable
“Where you off to honey?” “Oh just going out to total our car for no reason” “Ok. Can you bring back bread?”
Later that night: "Where's the bread?". "Err the ducks in the ford ate it."
We need bread for the car and not the edible bread 😮
Two things I have learned from this channel since I started watching: 1. What cars not to buy to get across a ford. 2. How not to drive through a ford.
😂
Yes, iv watched and read lot of “offroad” stuff and I’m an ok amateur mechanic but I’m still surprised just how SLOW, slow is for a normal car. When you see a “little un” go through at the right speed it’s often hardly up to the wheel hubs, but it’s still slower and I’d have thought.
I have also learnt that when the painted stick in the middle indicates 2 feet and the road sign says closed it a good idea to take the 5 minute diversion avoiding the water.
Still lots of questions left though: Why people don't take the +0.6 miles detour? Why isn't there a bridge in like every other developed country? Why are people that stupid?
@@David-xp7sr Not even 5 minutes. The detour is +0.6 miles, 2 minutes extra
top tip. If you are unsure if your hydro locked engine is most definitely ruined because you submerged your intake, simply immediately try to repeatedly restart it and remove all doubt.
Rods won't be happy tho
@@G_de_Coligny I was being sarcastic 🙃
@@Tsuchinoko One rod already wasn't happy. Repeated start attempts will ensure nothing around said rod is happy. 👍
🤣🤣 yes I agree that's best advice... turn it over ASAP for as long as possible 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If it does start, be sure to rev the nuts off it to blow the water out the exhaust!
there's a very odd "married cousins" vibe to the group of people hanging around filming this now..
The local shops do a roaring trade in six fingered gloves!
I take it you got stuck and nobody helped you.
Well collective IQ of everyone involved is below 30 so yeah it could be not just vibe...
The fact that he put 6.3 AMG on the front wings of that NON AMG Merc he deserved that 😁
Harsh, but fair.
Not even a V8 one crummy V6 karma for driving a wish it was
Pretty tragic
Even if my life depended on it, I couldn't identify a wannabe-AMG.
If the above is the case, surely the owner must suffer from having a micropenis ?
As for my own equipment size. I'm the opposite. My daily beater is a debadged Porsche 🤓😅
@@thefreedomguyuk you need to buy one of those "shitbox edition" or "f*ckit edition" badges lol
With how hard it is financially at the moment it never fails to surprise me how happy people look with themselves despite having a several thousand pound bill ahead of them
People over there being dense.
You’d be surprised at the cost, my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee has spun its main bearing due to a design flaw with the oil ways and EGR system, the new engine cost is £24000 fitted.
@@MX-Mug That's 27 thousand euro, your car is declared completely loose.?
@@JBroMCMXCI they should say it's your own fault.😆
These are the type of people that lease the cars and have tens of thousands of pounds of debt. More debt doesn't matter to them.
The number of people destroying their cars is amazing. I was always taught that if in doubt find another route, or if the depth is o.k. Select 1st gear, drive through slowly keeping the revs up. Once clear of the water check the brakes. But what do I know I’ve only been driving for 50 years. 😂👍
Incorrect.
Keep the revs at idle.
DO NOT touch the throttle otherwise more chance of water entering the intake.
That's if you want to drive through a flood.
I'm a mechanic and I would choose a different route if over 6 inches deep
@@julesviolin I don’t know where you were taught, but I was taught of the need to go very slowly, but you also keeping the revs up to keep water out of the exhaust. As you say, if the water is more than 6-8 inches deep find an alternative route.
@Peter L yes I agree, but seeing that the depth of water is over 1 foot would make me seek an alternative route, not blunder on and make a total wreck of my car. I think it is an age thing, I was brought up to respect my possessions, a car is a valuable item to me, even if it is on a lease, so I treat it with respect.
I can't fathom the mentality of people who seem to relish in someone else's misfortune.
The old bloke making snarky remarks about the Merc was most distasteful. Sounded like he had a lot of jealousy in his voice.
I personally wouldn't drive through it, especially with this mob out, desperate for you to write your car off.
There are warning signs leading up to this. When the people do warn them the drivers scoff at them and do it anyway. This is a known tourist attraction, many of these people aren’t local and come here specifically to go through the water like that and put on a show for those watching. The locals aren’t the one ruining their cars, they know how to do it. At some point you have to let people do as they will if they arrogantly refuse your help. They are also seeking the attention try to perform for the camera. They love it, right up until their car stalls.
I've always wondered what type of person sticks AMG badges all over their non AMG Mercedes... now I know!
Golfers! 🤣🤣🤣
This sucks, but actually Mercedes themselves put AMG badges on models sold with the AMG trim packages
Good to see the ducks alive and well - thank you, Tom! What commitment - even at night too!
I was just thinking about how much I missed seeing some ducks so it was lovely to see a pair of them. They must get scared away by the drivers who have to traverse the ford at top speed and splash everyone.
@@bernardm2312 it would appear the ducks have much superior sense to the stupid drivers.
Always that little look of smugness from the driver a split second before the engine packs in!
The Tesla driver really did a fantastic job of not getting any water into his intake!
🤣
Tesla's critical components are water sealed, yes. But if the water went into the cabin, it's going to be a most likely write off. It's very hard to get rid of water damage
@@georget10i Not really
A Tesla does not have a intake its electric 😅😅😅
@@jancodreyerthat's the joke...🤦♂️
Wouldn't it be great if a Lotus Esprit Turbo went through and the driver wound the window down to eject a fish.
I believe I've seen a video with exactly that clip in it. Not sure where, though.
0:05 aaand you’ve just written off your car, well done.
Hooray, another episode of 'Car Wreck Canyon' Keep up the good work Tom.
Rufford Ford, the gift that keeps on giving .
👏👏 NICE JOB WITH THE SHOT RUNNING WITH THE VW ESTATE ... U LINED THAT UP NICELY 👏👏👏 LOVE THE ADDED NIGHT SHOTS TOO 🙏
you can look at fools forever. I didn’t know that so many people hadn’t heard about engine water hammer
Yesterday a friend's company was called out because the streetlamps in a town centre car park at failed. His report to the town clerk stated the car park was flooded and the electrics were under water. You couldn't make it up! 😀
Thank you, for the great night vision shots.
GOOD JOB TOM 😊....

It’s getting a bit mean spirited down there of late.
Sadly the local dossers have taken their 5 minutes of fame too far and can’t handle themselves

I live just down the road from here! Your camera quality is brilliant!
What astounds me is the fact that despite the engine going out and white smoke coming out of the exhaust most people still try to restart their cars over and over. The hydrolocked engine are still there and people make sure that it gets maximum damage.
Exactly.
Because 9 times out of 10 it works its not has hard has people think to get a car going after its taken water in the engine done it many many times
@@Jake-jo6jw I haven't seen one car where white smoke came out of the exhaust where restarting it did any good. None of them could leave.

Hot guy in a purple Mercedes AMG .....good one Tom! I love how the local folk pitch in and push a bloke out!!!
I'm impressed with that MX-5.
Aftermarket pod filter, fitted up under the bonnet. A stock MX5 would not have made it.
@@thefreedomguyuk Still impressive, though, he entered the water exactly how you shouldn't do... That filter must be quite high up in the engine bay touching the bonnet.
Great video Tom very nice looks deep
Well done again Tom. I would hate to be paying the bill for that Merc.
Hmmm....engine drop off, driver think....lets start it again, brilliant idea...engine think, yeah rodbending situation..got you babe🤣🤣🤣
"See if it's warm enough for a cup of tea." 😂
4:15 can't imagine there are too many Hummers in the UK!
Many bummers though.
Nice to see that, especially with all of its US spec lighting still intact.
There's a Hummer lives 5 doors down from me in bright yellow and it looks good, he also has a Land Rover Discovery, a Range Rover and a little Smart car
Tom another amazing video
Hi,
very interesting again!👍
Is that building next to the Ford a pub? The endless amount of entertainment, and content always comes up in copious amounts 😊
Do none of these drivers watch UA-cam??????
Or Baywatch ??!?
Is the bar in the wedding place open to the public (when there's not a wedding on)? If I'm ever in Nottinghamshire I wouldn't mind popping down to see the ford myself. But I would also like a warm dry hidey hole opportunity.
Everybody gangsta till the white smoke comes out
I'm surprised so many people don't know how to cross a ford, in the land of the ford.
And all hail the mighty transit!!👐
The face of disappointment when they thought could charge through at speed and then the clack of seized engine 😆
Has anyone started a list of cars that have been through here so people can avoid them on the second hand market?!
Your channel is anti stress
People have seen too many of them Bond Movies!😂😂
2:08 ! Can’t make it to golf today mate !
"That'll teach you to laugh at us." 😁
I'd get over there easily as I've got a boat. 😂
Why people do this. There's no other roads? Some cars are even very expensive too, I don't understand.
How high is the ford now? I was going to come over but don't want to end up on one of your videos 😆
isnt it a 10 min diversion to miss this place as well?
Yeeeerrrrr.. I'll power thru in my 5.5 litre Merc. Rufford Ford. Hold my beer. I've got this.
it wasnt even the 5.5l engine it was a v6 lmao.
@4:36 gotta be pj audits.
At 0.12 in the video above the car there is a tunnel, just wondering what it's used for, if anyone knows
What exactly is happening to the engine? I know water is the reason but is it just an electrical thing or is water getting inside the engine? I know jack about cars.
crazy to see a hummer, love the ducks
Sounds like it's becoming a coven there!
Range Rover Driver "Yes at last i'm going off road after 5 years of ownership"
It would be good to show us what is says on the sign on the approach to the ford on each side. None of the videos seem to show that. We only ever get to see the back of the sign.
Quite often road closed but it is a pain we don't see it as it should be indicated in each video. Road closed signs don't stop people from driving through it and also invalidates the insurance (as does driving in an area with a red weather warning).
I wonder why such few people attempt to reverse through the ford.. Might have saved the one or the other engine 😄
And force water straight down the exhaust 😂
@@gregshearer423 shouldn’t do if you keep the revs up…?
@@CycolacFan probably be fine if you kept the revs up but 99% of people struggle going forwards never mind in reverse
Not enough water today!
mr audits there again lol
There are some real pr.1ck5 in this life and many can be found at Rufford Ford.
thnx for a HDR
These were beautiful cars too. :(
Why are inner types allowed to buy cars (MB 72) when they can’t operate them correctly?
More MB and BMW toe rags please 😆
I know that the safe wading depth of my BMW M340i is only 9.5” so would t attempt driving through this ford. However, it is not my fault as a BMW owner that BMW designs it’s cars with a very low mounted air intake. Jealousy is a very unattractive trait!
I ask, do they have to go through,or is there alternative route?
Indeed, it's only a few miles longer
What’s with the merc with the fake badging. That’s a 2005 3.5 V6?
Probably 0.5 after he went through that ford
Ari Gold did the same with his wife's car
The fact that the drive a perfectly good mercedes benz. Looked like an amg too
First one broke my heart 😂 Poor AMG…
Not a real AMG, just a poser
@@jacobg5122 He got the full package stickers, gosh
Hero of the day has to be the mighty Mazda MX5
ah yes, 5.5 liters of fresh pond water, nice
Interesting. This actually works better than a PIT maneuver if you want to stop a getaway car. Police shoud get in front and hose the air intake. Done.
What a muppet in the CLS
Less fails in this video must have been an off day at the ford 😢
That Volvo (compared to other brands) did not have any problems crossing Rufford Ford.
3:18 G'wan the golf. Funny that made it and the amarok didn't 😅
I like it as they try to restart immediately after, - they don't have even a remote knowledge about what's going on in the engine bay...
The guy with the merc at the start was very lucky
If I did this(i wouldnt) I definitely wouldn’t try restarting the engine with any of the plugs in
Tesla guy is always a show off😂
Mad how they throw their nice, expensive cars into the water. This has been an interesting natural experiment to say the least.
High speed water impact = damage
Going quickly from hot to cold = damage
White smoke = totaled. The engine is flooded
Water in the cabin = totaled. You're never getting rid of the mold
How did that Miata make it?
yo pienso una cosa.por que no van marcha atrás mejor?
When white smoke coming from the exhaust does it always mean Knackered engine ?
Almost certainly yes, a smoking engine is an unhealthy one, black smoke means it's burning oil, blue smoke means it's burning cooling water.. and white smoke means water hot inside the engine
if you lucky it could just sucked litlle bit of water and will be fine.
It's steam in this case as water got sucked in through the air intake
Poor Merc driver forgot the optional laws of physics do not apply package when he bought the car. Better luck next time.
Last 2 videos were trouble free but this one much more car destroying
3:09 forward: making sure it’s properly and fully screwed
Whats the going rate to pull people out - £50 seems legit, £150 for Mercedes/Audi/BMW? Price goes up if you argue.......
Yep, just another regular day of people destroying car engines.
I must have a wander down to Rufford Ford and point and laugh at all the drivers that have ruined their cars driving through it.
Really none of them knows what a hydraulic shock of an engine is? The fluid is incompressible.
I was saying to myself: to fast, to fast!! And... I was right!
There’s something strangely satisfying about watching someone drive an expensive car into deep water, conk out, and destroy it 😂
Maybe car manufacturers should start sending their prototypes there to make them waterproof!
Quite alarming how many people clearly have more money than sense. Worrying.
So what's the optimum approach to tackling the ford?
We always say "as slow as possible; as fast as necessary". But what's that in practice?
Put front wheels in. Stop. Wait for water to settle. Then lowest gear possible, and highest revs, slower than walking pace but don't stop?
I'd be be low ratio first, with the suspension at its highest. And still have snails beating me. Even if it was dry.
1st gear, gentle walking pace or slower. Keep the revs down near idle.
An engine that's revving high can swallow more water without stopping than one that is running slow. The problem is that if it does swallow enough to hydro lock at high revs it's very likely to do major damage. If you hydro lock at idle you have a pretty good chance of getting away with simply drying the engine out. Compare hitting something hard with a hammer or just giving it a gentle tap.
For bonus points before going in deep water stop and pop the lid off of your air filter. The air intake on most cars is just behind the grille. The filter on the other hand is much further back in the engine bay and usually higher. If you are in water deep enough to reach the filter you're probably floating.
@@LesNewell Thanks for that Les; that's really interesting, and helpful. I can see your point about revs. I guess whatever the revs are nothing is likely to be coming up the exhaust.
I took my old (unsnorkelled) Defender through a lot of water. She did fine. But that was on proper off road courses, so it's not like you go very fast through a bomb hole.
I've seen people selling 'snorkels' for L320s but they just go over the hot air outlet. No connection whatsoever with the air intake. So that's going to give people some nasty surprises.
The Tesla drivers I have noticed are the ones who take it slow, staying behind the bow wave. Even though there’s no air intake they seemed to have taken it slowly. Some not all
Water is even worse for the fashion items, you wouldn’t pour water on a electric motor or system unless you were a complete moron….oh that’s a Tesla owner 😂
Lots of very expensive parts in an EV that don’t like water ingress.
