But you've also got to question the stupidity of the onlookers who don't seem to be discouraging the drivers from attempting to cross, or the local authorities who aren't closing off a road that's clearly impassable to the majority of vehicles.

are you all seriously demonising the onlookers? theres nothing more than stupid people driving through something they shouldnt, not knowing the limitations of their own vehicles.
when a lorry goes under a bridge that theyre too tall for, ripping their roof off. do you blame the onlookers, the council or the person driving the vehicle?
this ford for the most part is very passable in any average car, after heavy rain its obviously going to be deeper. hence why there are water markers on the bridge so drivers know the depth, before they enter. its only the stupidity of people not thinking, or not knowing how to drive properly.

tbf the advice not to stop is spot on once youve commited that far to going through the ford, because the moment you stop forward momentum, the bow wave just rolls back, swamps the air intake & engine and its game over, and you cant reverse if the exhaust is under water already. the moment the car starts to float its open the doors time, they wont seal properly anyway so you have to accept getting wet at that stage and you might just make it through.

At 2:40 the BMW is so graceful, a sweet hydrolock marks its progress to a boat.. It was a nice touch to leave it in park, too - better safe than sorry!!

And a lot of cab drivers are driving on finance i.e. they have to work in order to pay for the vehicle that provides their work. Although that cab is a 63 plate so I'd have hoped it woudl be paid off by now, or bought second-hand at a depreciated price and not be so expensive to keep on the road.
Also, I had a 63 plate Insignia diesel as a rental back in 2015. Just like that taxi except black. It was a really lovely car and I was sad to hand it back in.

The LR may have snorkels and a high wading depth but it will still say in the handbook that oil in the axle & diffs etc are recommended to be replaced after traversing through deep water, unless they are fitted with extended vent outlets also.
