    😀 A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.
So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.
Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.
We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

The person that holds the stop sign at construction sites is called a "flagger" in the States. A truly grueling job for all the reasons you said, plus their greatest threat: aggressive, inattentive, and/or flatly incompetent motorists. Seeing you roll down the window to give a hello filled my heart!! 🤗🤗 Gives them human contact, a proper greeting, plus sends the message "I see you."
Oh, deffo putting Talkeetna on the list!! Artisans, bush pilots, dog sled rides, and beer? Tick, tick, tick, and tick!! Well, not all at once. 😉

Oh MOSQUITOS!! LOL. I highly recommend that you invest in a Thermacell unit. We use a "back pack" edition and it simply attaches to a butane canister (like a small but shorter propane canister.) Then, you change out the pads (refill repellent pads) when they change from blue to white. They are absolutely incredible. I have taken to putting it inside the tent 15 minutes before going to bed and it kills all of the bugs for us so we can get some sleep. 💞

Hi You Two Lovelies, There are 500 wildfires in Alaska right now. This is just unheard of. You need to be careful. There are maps on the internet showing where the fires are so you can plan your trip with safety in mind. We had to evacuate from a fire once in California...we left the west. Stay safe. xo

hi guys, we were driving through Idaho mountains and saw a moose in the woods next to a pond. We stopped and all got out of the car to sit and watch the moose, who proceeded to walk into the water until it was completely submerged, gone from sight! Soon appeared again, eating weed. Such a treat to get those moments and Alaska must have so many! Enjoy!

We saw you in Talkeetna the day you were filming. It was then that I saw your van and took a picture of it. We were sitting at a picnic table by the market and can be seen in the background as you walk by. We went into most of the businesses that you show. After visiting the town, we were in a tour bus behind you going up the road. Wish I had snapped a picture of that but at that time, I did not know who you were. Now I am a fan.

Like the response above, there are over 500 fires going at the time they were in AK. There has been a lot of rain in the past 3 weeks and things are better. You have no idea just how big AK is... Fires are only dealt with if they impact a dwelling or business. If not they just wait for rain & snow. Ya, it's that BIG up there.

    • @iremfrat7771
      @iremfrat7771 2 роки тому

@@tramacmeg8103 I believe it's huge. I just had a preconception that wild fires occur in hot and dry areas, so I was surprised. It's sad to learn that they only try to put out if it's threatening something.

Interesting fact: Did you know that residents of Alaska can sign up to be the recipients of the fresh roadkill moose and or deer etc. whether it be by vehicle or train. (Not sure about bears) If it is a fresh kill, they will butcher it for their own consumption. If it's not so fresh I'm not sure about.

    Care About You!
    Marianne and Chris,
    Beautiful day here in Florida.
When you know it's going to be hot, then you must wear sleeveless or roll up your sleeves, especially Chris. Tshirts has to be thin cotton, not thick cotton. Wiping your face and neck area with a cold rag or ice pack works all the time. Drink a lot of water instead of coffee and tea or sodas. Those beverages will dehydrate you even more because it stimulates the blood so your body gets warmer and you will feel double hot. #1 and #2. That's exactly what we're talking about! Any flies are attracted to smell. They can smell a mile away, that's why they come around a barbeque or they smell something that died on the ground like birds. They all have a high sense of smell. This is why you must spray in your commode and under the truck with disinfectant everyday. This is why they come around RVs because they smell the toilets under the vans. They come around you as well that lives in the van, because traces of the smell is on your body. Something acidic like fresh lemon put in your water or a rag to wipe your face, neck area, arms and legs to keep them away. The best spray for mosquitoes is squeezing fresh lemon in a bottle, mix with a little apple cider vinegar and spray your body and around your neck, it works all the time to keep the mosquitoes away. You can find a gallon bottle spray for bugs at Lowe's or Home Depot. You can also add apple cider vinegar or lemon in it, they don't like the acidic smell. This is the only way to keep them away, by spraying inside the toilet and under the van where the toilet is. Don't forget your ice pack to cool you off. Pretend you're on the beach and wear more sleeveless clothing when it's hot! Or pretend you're at a nudist beach! ☺️

My free advice is to see if you can find two routes from wherever you travel so you do not get trapped if a fire overcomes the road and you have notice of it ahead. Perhaps so in some areas but maybe no alternative in some others. I have heard of people dying in vehicles while fleeing because they waited too long and only went direction they knew of. Rare but yes, sadly does happen. Keep well away from active fire areas and do know which location you stay in (county name, nearest highway mile marker and highway name, and camping area or nearest town). Check on the Internet for fire information and go by the particular name of the fire if you know of that. National Forest Service, Alaska State Fire etc. By the way, sign holders make good dollars when on road work crews in most places.

It must mean that you can’t have any drinks you didn’t buy in that pub. I can’t figure it out at all. Why have a pub that doesn’t allow drinks. Crazy!!!

It would be my guess that the water filling station is for a water tender which has a big water tank on it so 1 vehicle can take water to multiple fire trucks.

You should switch vehicles with not all but some. 1 kid ride in Trudy and Chris ride in the other and switch it up. Nice to BS. Both sex’s can collaborate if in the same van. Woman to woman. Man to man may be an advantage.
