I did not want this documentation to end. I'm convinced golf is a life changing experience....to experience the highs and lows...and nurture the beauty of nature that Mother Earth offers.
Great History from the origins , self as an Army Man got an opportunity to play this most wonderful game in deserts , snow and fields of Farms in plains of India
There was one man who knew and saw where the game was going and has landed today, the great O. B. Keeler! As far as "kolf" goes and if they only played in winter on ice, that seems more like the origins of hockey to me, not golf! Looked more like hockey in the portraits too!
excellent viewing ,, thoroughly enjoyed it,, does justice to the history and the ethics of the greatest challenge of any sporting endeavour, but the only cloud on the horizon being one mans dellusional view that he can "grow the game of golf" as if the great game needs it? or the likes of that predatory ambition, basking shark !
Yea he was back in the day he had I contact with L and M cigarettes but he started wondering what kinda example he was setting for kids so he give the money to L and M and If I remember correctly he stop smoking after that and I remember that in a interview he gave before I watch this show same with the king Arnold also
Saddest thing about it is, golf still remains an elitist game due to the majority of courses being private snobby courses where most members don't even play the game, they just want the prestige of being able to say they live at such n such Private Club/course! The few that are public to play, have way over priced greens fees for the average man, woman and child to keep them from being able to play! That's something that Seriously needs to be changed.....Sadly, it looks like I'll ever see it in my lifetime!
This is somewhat true, but not completely. (1) Golf is bigger than ever around the world, and has millions of non-pro players and otherwise, and many young and old, with 60 million total around the world, and maybe 20 million in America alone (the country with the most courses by far), with around 8 million golfers in America playing a lot any given year. This makes it one of the most popular sports in the world, and easily one of the most popular costly sports, but, of course, that's because they are mostly American and Americans are very rich overall. (2) Golf is a social sport just as much as anything else, so there is a lot of that elitist stuff happening for this reason, with regards to the clubhouse, etc., whereas, it's hard to make something like Baseball or Boxing into an elitist sport, or very social. This is good and bad. (3) Courses and playing on them (at clubs) costs a lot of money even if they are public/open, and for good reason, even though I am too poor to join a club, sadly. As such, the people paying £10,000 to play Golf are quite snobby for this reason, though many of them do actually play the game, they don't just sit around. They are snobby because they just paid a lot of money to be there and play there; however, if you are a member of a club and act correctly, good or bad at the game, they will treat you fine without problems. But, this does account for why they tend to be more middle-class and don't like people who don't know what they are doing or non-golfers and poor golfers, etc. Because courses are so costly, massive, and so on, Golf is a very costly, prestigious sport, for better and for worse. (4) Many clubs/courses, and many more each year are open/public, from big to small, professional to non-professional. Also, if you have enough money you can join most clubs/courses in the world, though some are invite-only, such as St. Andrews, and some require you to be of a certain skill level. (5) There are things like the U.S. Open, which isn't as open as it sounds, but it is open to all pros and top players around the world and has some other stuff going on, as well, along with the Masters, etc., where some people get in if they win the opportunity in some manner, so that's okay, coupled with the fact non-pro players can play anywhere they want as long as they meet the aforementioned conditions. Also, there is a handicap system in Golf which means everybody can play against everybody else in a fair manner, which is great. (6) Don't forget that there are only around 40,000 Golf courses around the world, and the average American course costs 2 million to create and the high-end ones cost around 10 to 15 million, with half of all courses being in America alone, then almost all the other course being either in Canada, Japan, or Britain. They also take at least 1 year to build and require the greatest minds in Golf to create it. Compare this to at least 500,000 tennis courts around the world, for example, which are quite small, easy to make, and cheap. (7) Make no mistake, by its very nature, Golf is prestigious and there is no way around that unless you build 500,000 public, smaller courses; thus, using up a lot of free land, though this would largely solve the problem. There isn't much free land left for Golf courses, more so ideal land. The problem with bad land, whilst there is a lot of it, it's horrible for Golf and costs endless millions to build upon. But, the good news is that I read that people are starting to push more and more for 5 to 9-hole courses now, and that may be the future for many new courses, and as the West becomes even richer, more and more people will also be able to play. And Golf will be at the next Games (2021, Japan, maybe), which should make it even more popular. With any luck, Golf will have 100 million players in a few decades and maybe 50,000 to 100,000 total courses, many of them being smaller and in many more countries. So, maybe you won't see it happen, but maybe you will (I guess 20-50 years for that to happen). Golf did seem to have become quite a bit more popular during 2020, for example, and also since around 2018, of course, so if that carries on, Golf should have a very bright future, indeed. In short: There is nothing you can really do about it due to the very nature of Golf. You either pay or you can't join. The best things to do are either find a cheaper club/course, or just play on non-club courses and such, which tend to be quite cheap (at least, no more than any other sport, etc.).
I can walk half a dozen courses within an hour of my house for less than $30 for 18...so I think your statement holds true in some places but i whole heartedly believe that there are a lot of places that golf is truly accessible to everyone...it may not be “championship” caliber courses and you may have to walk to make it affordable(in my opinion this is the way golf was meant to be played...I also understand pace of play...but I am 40 and have a regular walking foursome that usually pushes the group in front of us in carts the whole round...so I also think pace of play is objective...I digress..) Affordable golf at decent friendly courses for the average human being exist I think it just depends on where you live...
I started golfing in 1959. I have enjoyed it all my life. This is a great program. All golfers should watch it.
i thought golf was boring, but i just remembered how beautiful it is. everyone ought to play it
“I started playing golf”. Golf is not a verb. It’s a noun. Hope you leaned something 😊
