    Pursuing to be a professional disc golfer and have been told to listen to this. I’ve worked on my mental game a lot recently and this has had the greatest impact. I listened to it yesterday, this morning and on my way to play a league round after work. I shot a 1000 rated round with no bogies and an ace! I won in the advanced division winning $146. I think I’ll listen to some more Bob Rotella.

    Yesterday, on the 4th hole the water is in play along the side of the tee box, for about 50 yards on the right. I hit 2 balls into the drink with my 5 wood, I hit my 5 iron and carried on. Finishing early I decided to play another 9. Got onto the tee box of the 4th hole again and pulled out my driver, which had come to life after my nightmare hole and proceeded to hit 2 more balls into the water. My exact thought at the top of my down swing was 'imagine I hit another two into the water'. Hence listen to this book today😅

    I am a 52 year old who has been an athlete my entire life, I've played all kinds of sports from recreational things like bowling and darts all the way to ice hockey, baseball and of course golf. I've been into fitness since age 14 and never before in my life have I encountered a sport which is as complex and counter intuitive as golf. My personal experience has been that the harder I try and the harder I swing, in other words, the more effort I put into the swing, the worse I play. On the other hand, if I hit the ball as though I don't care where it goes, I hit it well and straight. I first figured this out about 2 years ago while I was hitting into a net at a golf course before my round. It occurred to me that I really made good contact and miss-hit VERY few shots when I was in front of that net. But on the golf course I thin and chunk about 20% of the time. So I came to a place where there was and is a battle inside my head between 'letting go' and trying hard. It is a fascinating bit of human psychology and despite having the self discipline required to eat clean and train as often as I want to, I can't seem to master this, the art of swinging loose and carefree.

      Morning mate. Thank you for your comment. When you on the course are focusing on the process of hitting great shots or on your scorecard?

    • @canuck_gamer3359
      @canuck_gamer3359 2 місяці тому +1

      @@CoachGurney Great question! I play every hole as a par 5, with the understanding that 5 x 9 is 45 and that's an average score for me. (same applies for 18). Now that is in the back of my mind between shots but when I am standing over the ball, I am focusing only on making a good swing and being loose.

    • @CoachGurney

      @@canuck_gamer3359so before you go play do you have any process goals / objectives or just scoring goals… see where this is heading?

    • @canuck_gamer3359
      @canuck_gamer3359 2 місяці тому +1

      @@CoachGurney I tend to think of goals in practice, more of a process. Learning to swing the clubs more consistently etc. While I'm on the course I am trying to keep things simple and just adopt whatever I've been doing in practice. But yes, I take your point. Another issue is that it's hard to find good teachers here, what I require is someone who can think a little outside the box but thus far I have not found such a person.

I've only played one round since listening to it, but I shot my best round at a local course and it just felt so simple. All of the stuff he says isn't even that crazy, its actually just crazy simple but so impactful.

    I used a triple track golf ball, with 3 lines for alignment, when I played the other day. I got behind the ball and picked out a specific target, lined up the ball, then lined up parallel to the lines on the ball. A few times when I got over the ball I felt like I was lined up waaaaay left and had to double check that it was indeed where I wanted to start the ball. It was! How many times have I lined up incorrectly, possibly because of the tee box or other factors? Then I would pick my swing apart and start a series of unfortunate events in place when the swing wasn’t even the problem. So many good nuggets in this book. Thank you.

    Dr Rotella i love your philosophy but i don't agree about the concept that both winners and losers are self made.. yes we can give ourselves more chance of winning by doing our process, but as Alex Ferguson often said, we can prepare and do all the right things but there's always an element of luck to winning or losing too, the bounce of the ball and the competitors performance, even world events, are all an aspect of those things we can't fully control, known as luck or fate
    but yes we CAN give ourselves our best chance by doing our process and trying our best in life etc
    best wishes to you

    I started golf in 2019. From about 2019 through the end of 2020, I could swing freely. I was new but I could swing freely, I was able to hit the ball just fine. I wasn’t worried about a shank/duff/pull hook/hitting it fat/etc. I was scoring high 90s/low 100s. I was happy with my scores.
    Sometime in early 2021 I completely lost any ability to even hit the ball. Seriously…I could hit the ball at all. It was paralyzing and I wanted to quit. I kept practicing and couldn’t get it back at all. My scores were so bad (130+).
    In late 2021 I somehow found everything again. I was able to hit the ball again, everything felt right again for like 2-3 months….then somehow everything went downhill again
    I went back to not being able to hit the ball. It wasn’t as bad when I first lost it, I could still somewhat hit my irons, but my drivers/woood/hybrid was shot. I went through the episode again and ended up quitting for the later half of 2022.
    I ended up coming back to golf just last week. First round I scored 105, felt pretty good but still couldn’t drive or use my woods. My last round however, 116, nothing felt right again, shank city. 🤦🏾

      I started three years ago. On an executive course I was swinging freely and was plunking the greens. Only problem was I never putted on Bermuda greens and I was a consistent three-putt. Several days later I lost my confidence and couldn't launch the ball anymore so I decided to get lessons. The first helped, but the second lesson really messed me up! Then I sought out another instructor and I just couldn't hit the ball anymore. I went back to the drawing board by chipping and putting. The swing came back and I had my best round by only using 4 clubs...2 irons, wedge and my putter. These videos have helped me immensely. While I still have rough days...they don't matter. Being old and arthritic I am blessed just to be out there with my dog enjoying this game.

Learn how to putt , the best putter wins most days. Obviously shorter putts help but you should understand this is the area most people can easily improve with minimal effort
