I hitchhiked into Mexico once as a teenager with my dog Buster. The police stopped me, fed me, gave me a beer and told me to watch out for the bad guys. Later, the bad guys stopped me, fed me, smoked me out then told me to watch out for the cops. I for one will always love Mexico.

I've never lived in any of these cities, but as a Mexican who was born in a border city of Matamoros and lived almost 22 years in America, I personally feel safer in Juarez than Philly and I base that on how people in Juarez act similar to Matamoros: families and friends are out and about just lounging around or going for walks, whatever it may be, everyone just going about their business. Meanwhile in Philly, this looks like any wrong move and you are a dead man, plus drug zombies every other block. That said, Juarez is a cartel hotspot so, I guess they're equally dangerous.
I've had to drive these same streets, and all you think about is god forbid you get a flat. I'll drive that fucker back on the brake rotor before I get out to change it. Never been to Mexico, but it looks cleaner. That said, I would presume its the things you can't see there that makes it really dangerous.
I have visited Juárez many times and ngl, the city is nice if you keep your distance from messy neighborhoods and problems, but it's basically the Detroit of Mexico.
In juarez there's kids running around people chilling outside their own homes. In Philly there's people laid out in front of business like bums and people gathering in front of a liquor store . Huge difference

Very good observation and point. In Juarez, it appears people are going about their lives despite the danger that surrounds them.; In Philly, it appears the people themselves are the danger.
Except Mexico appeared to have whole families with children on walks in the summer night, so there's that. People were out on walks to cool off from a hot day. Philly looked more like the creatures of the night drug addicts. I would feel safer in Mexico for this reason.

Stop signs - one says “Alto,” and the other, “Stop.” That’s the immediate difference that I saw. Also, Philadelphia seemed to have less dust, more “trash,” somewhat better lighting, more air conditioners - and a certain quality that I can’t put into words, also. That quality corresponds to some places I heard about many years ago that supposedly existed in SoCal, where if you went there, *and weren’t recognized by those who lived there as being one of their own, with a dwelling on site and family living there* - you would be shot on sight. I just read a book where at the end the author listed every Juarez homicide from 2008. each one had name, age, location, cause of death, etc. almost every story was just stuff that would be absolutely shocking and front page news if it happened here. and btw, the crime numbers are barely lower since then
You definitely know how to drive through these areas. Calmly, but not lingering and leaving plenty of space around you, especially when you are forced to stop behind another vehicle. Philadelphia and Los Angeles look nearly identical at night.

Attended Army basic training in 1987 at beautiful Fort Bliss in El Paso. A couple weeks into training a recruit from my company decided to visit Juarez at night, with no pass, and in his dress uniform as we had no access to civilian attire. After failing to show for muster the next morning we found out he had been relieved of his clothing and possessions in Juarez and had somehow made it back across the border only to end up in the custody of the Army MPs.
My cousin lives in Juarez and I went to his wedding around 2007-2008 (The bad days). I went for a jog at night, found a park with monkey bars to do pull ups and dips, then found a family selling food from their home and stopped for dinner. I wouldn't even do this in my hometown at night (Oakland, CA).
As a kid, my cousin had a house in little Haiti (the most dangerous neighborhood in Florida) I used to go to the playground nothing would happen. I've been out at Philly at night. All the people do is stare you down. Some of them will even say hi. It's just the expression in their face. I guess they feel shame idk. There's a reason why Mexico seems so alive and Philly dead. It has to do with the conditions. Mexico's a third world country and the people of juarez are like the average worker trying to get through and the community works to preserve that motion. If you go to the west side of juarez it's six times worse than the video. Picking up my aunt from that area was like witnessing The walking Dead. Philly the same way. The US has the biggest and richest economy, the lowest unemployment, and the best job market in the world. It's a difference in culture, meanwhile that neighborhood in Juarez consists of people trying to get through life, Philly is just a bunch of unemployed crackheads who won't move an ounce. They have every chance to get better, and they won't. If a Mexican in Mexico had the opportunities than an American had, Juarez would look much different.
I've lived just outside of Philly for 31 of my 34 years on this earth. Used to love going into the city as a kid, mainly for sporting events and the zoo. In my teens, I'd go there just to walk around. It was not a great place by any means, but it wasn't what it is now. I got a job in the city back in 2014. Even though my company forbade it, I carried my gun with me every single day. The building closed down and moved to New Jersey in 2019. I've been to the city two times since then (once for a job interview, once to see Monster Trucks with my nephew). I'm going back to the hellhole for a Phillies game next month and maybe an Eagles game this upcoming season. Aside from sporting events, I have zero plans of ever going into the city again. I'm in the process of saving up money to get away from this area entirely. I used to shudder at the thought of not living near a population center for easy access to things. I actually lived in Tennessee for a year, and absolutely hated it because the only store around was Walmart. Now, it's the complete opposite. I can't wait to live in the middle of nowhere.
I used to drive for Uber, and they also forbade guns. But I used it one night to save my life, the police as usual didn't even show up - I would have been dead if I depended on them.
I’ve thought the same way about city conveniences, especially nearby life-saving medical care as I age, but just as I’m getting older and slowing down, my city has jumped in population and is always busy. Now that I don’t speed anymore, I feel like I’m about to be run over whenever I drive on the highway.

I had to walk the streets of Juarez at 4am. I have also been to Baltimore. I was more terrified in Baltimore. I nearly got shot in Baltimore, I almost got all my stuff stolen. Nobody even approached me in Juarez.
Mexican people are super chill and nice. Its the cartels that are the problem but they just don't go after random strangers, they are fighting over territory and money its just sometimes Innocent people get caught in gun fights between rivals. In the USA you might get shot/killed just because somebody is a having a bad day or you cut them off smh.

I knew Juarez would be a scary place, but had the wrong idea about Philadelphia. I've never been there, so I thought this was going to show some great contrast. I'm thankful to live near a small town in Oregon.
I’m from Mexico and obviously Philly and cd Juarez are big cities and both have very bad spots and obviously both have very nice areas and wealthy neighborhoods(I have been in cd. Juarez)

I've heard that in recent years. Juarez has become relatively safer in comparison to other boarder cities and states. The reason being. The cartel based in Juarez has taken full control of the city over other cartels and they have stop fighting between the street level gangs. There is obviously still an element of danger of violent crimes, but in large part. Unless the cartel has authorized it. Committing a violent crime within Juarez can fetch the person responsible, their own death sentence. 9 times outa 10, the cartel will find the person before the police do. This is especially true if the victims are innocent locals.
This is a fact about organized crime versus the chaos we have in the USA. When the mafia was active in NYC, they controlled crime and it made business worse when low level dummies would cause chaos, bringing more police attention. It sounds weird but the reality is crime will never go away, but when it's managed by a single organization it benefits literally everyone. Crime is about money. Any disruption of that money is the problem.
Fifty years ago or so, it was pretty much the same in Philadelphia. In the parts of the city controlled by the mob, your teen-age daughter was perfectly safe walking home at night. But that was before drugs because the thing. When it was gambling and bootleg cigarettes, the mob was about business. But when John Gotti put the mob into drugs, everyone became a target and dopeheads couldn't be controlled.
I remember when I was 10 we had a D.A.R.E officer come and talk to us about staying off drugs. I told my dad and he said really?! He took me to downtown East Liverpool, Ohio on a Friday night (OK, nowhere near this but we saw a fraction of this) and my dad said “Son, if you do drugs, you’ll end up like this”

Granted, most people have chimp brains and will NOT be able to handle drugs, but for the rest of us, using them doesn't mean we are going to lose control because we know how to remain in control. It is safe. There’s 32 states in Mexico and not all are dumpster fires. Just like we have crap states in the USA. These are areas the government refuses to acknowledge or do anything about which leads to this.

I am half mexican/german and i really like the friendly side of the mexican people. The one girl wanted to wash his windshield but instead of getting angry for being rejected, she Said: I do Not Understand what you just said, but god bless you. I know that México is not so safe in some parts, but the people are very nice, even in a City that is infamous for its high murder rate.
There's no reason at all for Mexico to be a forbidden place to visit... It's a huge country that is beautiful & very rich in its culture we with so many amazing Places to visit Tons of museums The only Castle in North America that is in CDMX at Chapultepec Park which is massive close to 2000 Acres Was there 2018;for a month visiting Family & had the best time ever!! I'll be going back very soon with my family I can't wait for another adventure!!
Being a nearby resident I've driven down those same streets in Philly and seriously it makes Mexico look like Beverly Hills. The barrel has no bottom. It just gets dumpier and dumpier every year.

On April 9, 2023-18:00hrs. While in downtown Juarez I was stopped by the city police, no reason given. I was beaten (head injury) and robbed of about 160.00 USD. I somehow escaped and ran into the Mexican National Guard, who guided me into the El Paso del Norte footbridge to safely cross into the USA. I'm a Mexican who lives in the USA. Kind of Brown on Brown Crime.

Looks can be very deceiving. Juarez has a homicide rate exponentially higher than Philly. And that's not even counting all those that just disappear, mostly likely kidnapped, never to be seen again. And believe it or not, law enforcement is much more effective in Philly than Juarez. Yeah, you heard that right.

Lots of leaning poles and old wooden ones that are about time to replace in Philly....I suppose I'm not a fan of the burnt orange hue that america uses for lights ots so creepy... Juarez seemed to be using a different bulb. I wasn't saying Philly is worse. I just want to be a civil engineer, so I'm trying to think like one lol.

I walked about 10 miles theough Juarez last year (day time) didn't have any problems. People were happy to see a tourist. Seemed fine. A little bit dilapidated but that's part of the charm I guess.

Parts of Philadelphia are so bad it's a biohazard zone. So many needles and refuse that the local families and children have no business walking those streets to school or the store. Completely disgusting, for that reason alone the city council needs to be sued to high hell. Not to mention the rampant drug use and open air market. If the local state government denies any responsibility the federal government needs to step in at this point or send the national guard down permanently. Philadelphia should be ashamed of what theyve done. It is almost definitely the worst area in America I would say. Skid row is bad but Kensington is basically 5 square miles of despair

I drove inside Mexico back in 2021. I had no fear. I made it to my destination (Metepec, Hidalgo), spent the night there and went back to the States the next day.

I lived in Juarez a couple of years and I'm Mexican American. Trust me when i say Philly is a playground compared to Juarez. I live near Fort Bliss now and i don't go to Juarez at night.🇺🇸🇲🇽🙏
I totally believe you. Juarez has a murder rate about 4 times that of Philly, one of the highest in the world. I never been to Juarez but I been to Philly. Philly has some nice areas, not sure about Juarez but Juarez scares me just hearing about all the stuff that goes on there.
I've ridden my bicycle and motorcycle all over Juarez. I'm a 70 year old white guy, never had a problem. Headed back once fall and cooler weather arrives.

I think things in Jaurez have gotten a bit better in recent years. There are still areas I would not got because of cartel rule but there are areas of the U.S. I will not go to because of gang violence and mass shootings.

My stepdad was from Ciudad Juárez and when i was about 6 we went there to live with his parents for several months because my stepdad was going to build them a bathroom that was actual connected to their home. all they had was an outhouse. I will never forget when we pulled into their yard. it was dirt roads, mud walls. My mother had an Alice cooper 8 track playing. pretty wild memories. And in just those handfull of months living there i could tell you some wilddd stories.

Between 2003 and 2006, I went to Juarez quite a bit in the evenings for dinner and drinks. I never encountered and problems. However, in 2006, the violence ramped up and I stopped going.
I’ve been to both places. I was a kid when I went to Juarez and I recently took my family on Vacation to Philadelphia. Don’t get involved in illegal activity and you will be fine. I was surprised at how ghetto pretty much all of Philly was. We still had a good time lol.
Philly I feel like has been like that for decades thanks to unbelievably terrible leadership (democrat party has a stranglehold on that city so there’s no hope of it ever changing), so it’s reputation is in the gutter, and has been for a long time. It’s truly a shame, as such a historic city deserves so much better.

As someone who moved from Denver to Ciudad Juarez, I found Denver to be a lot more scarier at night then Mexico, When i moved to México, I had to move to the outskirts of Juárez, Where the violence still persists but where the porest people live, Mainly people that weren’t born here in Juarez and came from the South of México(Chiapas, Veracruz, Quintana Roo) or people from South, Central America(Honduras, El Salvador, Panama or even Haiti) And when i moved i was scared as shit because not only does it look like Downtown Philly, But i always heard that it was impossible to be jn those areas at night, But once i started living there and ACTUALLY living the life of someone in there then I found out that it’s not really how they paint it, There is no Mass shooting every night, it’s not impossible to be roaming at night either, Actually, It’s even more fun being at the streets at night because that’s when the humble people come out of their houses to sell food, Of course im not saying that it is the most safest thing ever, But it’s not super unsafe either, And let me tell you that im not a person that usually comes out scare and shit because ive never dealt with someone trying to steal from me, Believe it or not, Here in Mexico there is alot of people with good stuff, Iphones and Good cars and shit, I found it enjoyable, Now not only that but it’s not easy to come by and find someone who wants to drug you either lol, Because ive already read alot of comments saying this shit. Another thing is, This place im telling you guys about is what we call “Afueras de Ciudad Juarez” or “Las torres”(Las torres because that’s what the closest mall is named) And back then when i lived there, It was only Small houses and a lot of Territory with nothing but sand and trees, So it was just houses in the Middle of nowhere, Literally had to take a 50 minute trip to go to the nearest grocery store lol, Now a days Las Torres has alot more stuff, 1st world narrow streets and now has stores and restaurants all over the place so I’d imagine its ALOT more safer, Now i live one of the best places in Juárez which is way more cleaner, Way closer to the border and more of a Resemblance of a 1 World Country, No violence, No drive by, Nothing, Its super calm and tbh i have never felt any better, So no, Ciudad Juárez Mexico is not horrible, Its not Iraq, It’s very nice and easy to be in. Another thing is, This place where my man is driving in is in El Centro, Which is Downtown of the city, It’s where it’s easier to find Drugs, Or bad people, Or drunk people, Reason is because “El Centro” at night is full of discos and bars, Not only that but since its closer to both entries to the United States then there is ALOT of immigrants, And most of them have turned very dangerous because of the desperation of wanting to leave the city or because of Druggies who find it easy to ask for money and win a couple bucks for people coming from the U.S, Now when it comes to Daylight, That same place is FULL of life in the morning at 6:00 AM because it’s where the most humble people are, Everyone is selling something, You can literally find anything there and im not talking about drugs and shit, No! I've never lived in any of these cities, but as a Mexican who was born in a border city of Matamoros and lived almost 22 years in America, I personally feel safer in Juarez than Philly and I base that on how people in Juarez act similar to Matamoros: families and friends are out and about just lounging around or going for walks, whatever it may be, everyone just going about their business. Meanwhile in Philly, this looks like any wrong move and you are a dead man, plus drug zombies every other block. That said, Juarez is a cartel hotspot so, I guess they're equally dangerous.
I've had to drive these same streets, and all you think about is god forbid you get a flat. I'll drive that fucker back on the brake rotor before I get out to change it. Never been to Mexico, but it looks cleaner. That said, I would presume its the things you can't see there that makes it really dangerous.

Also, Philadelphia seemed to have less dust, more “trash,” somewhat better lighting, more air conditioners - and a certain quality that I can’t put into words, also. That quality corresponds to some places I heard about many years ago that supposedly existed in SoCal, where if you went there, *and weren’t recognized by those who lived there as being one of their own, with a dwelling on site and family living there* - you would be shot on sight.
Both seemed to be places I’d stay well clear of. Juarez because of the presence of armed police (I’d be used as a target by them - for *live action target practice* - I feel this way around domestic police as well, mind) and Philadelphia because the whole place looks scary as

Attended Army basic training in 1987 at beautiful Fort Bliss in El Paso. A couple weeks into training a recruit from my company decided to visit Juarez at night, with no pass, and in his dress uniform as we had no access to civilian attire. After failing to show for muster the next morning we found out he had been relieved of his clothing and possessions in Juarez and had somehow made it back across the border only to end up in the custody of the Army MPs.

My cousin lives in Juarez and I went to his wedding around 2007-2008 (The bad days). I went for a jog at night, found a park with monkey bars to do pull ups and dips, then found a family selling food from their home and stopped for dinner. I wouldn't even do this in my hometown at night (Oakland, CA).
As a kid, my cousin had a house in little Haiti (the most dangerous neighborhood in Florida) I used to go to the playground nothing would happen. I've been out at Philly at night. All the people do is stare you down. Some of them will even say hi. It's just the expression in their face. I guess they feel shame idk. There's a reason why Mexico seems so alive and Philly dead. It has to do with the conditions. Mexico's a third world country and the people of juarez are like the average worker trying to get through and the community works to preserve that motion. If you go to the west side of juarez it's six times worse than the video. Picking up my aunt from that area was like witnessing The walking Dead. Philly the same way. The US has the biggest and richest economy, the lowest unemployment, and the best job market in the world. It's a difference in culture, meanwhile that neighborhood in Juarez consists of people trying to get through life, Philly is just a bunch of unemployed crackheads who won't move an ounce. They have every chance to get better, and they won't. If a Mexican in Mexico had the opportunities than an American had, Juarez would look much different.
I've lived just outside of Philly for 31 of my 34 years on this earth. Used to love going into the city as a kid, mainly for sporting events and the zoo. In my teens, I'd go there just to walk around. It was not a great place by any means, but it wasn't what it is now. I got a job in the city back in 2014. Even though my company forbade it, I carried my gun with me every single day. The building closed down and moved to New Jersey in 2019. I've been to the city two times since then (once for a job interview, once to see Monster Trucks with my nephew). I'm going back to the hellhole for a Phillies game next month and maybe an Eagles game this upcoming season. Aside from sporting events, I have zero plans of ever going into the city again. I'm in the process of saving up money to get away from this area entirely. I used to shudder at the thought of not living near a population center for easy access to things. I actually lived in Tennessee for a year, and absolutely hated it because the only store around was Walmart. Now, it's the complete opposite. I can't wait to live in the middle of nowhere.
I used to drive for Uber, and they also forbade guns. But I used it one night to save my life, the police as usual didn't even show up - I would have been dead if I depended on them.

I've heard that in recent years. Juarez has become relatively safer in comparison to other boarder cities and states. The reason being. The cartel based in Juarez has taken full control of the city over other cartels and they have stop fighting between the street level gangs. There is obviously still an element of danger of violent crimes, but in large part. Unless the cartel has authorized it. Committing a violent crime within Juarez can fetch the person responsible, their own death sentence. 9 times outa 10, the cartel will find the person before the police do. This is especially true if the victims are innocent locals.
This is a fact about organized crime versus the chaos we have in the USA. When the mafia was active in NYC, they controlled crime and it made business worse when low level dummies would cause chaos, bringing more police attention. It sounds weird but the reality is crime will never go away, but when it's managed by a single organization it benefits literally everyone. Crime is about money. Any disruption of that money is the problem.

I am half mexican/german and i really like the friendly side of the mexican people. On April 9, 2023-18:00hrs. While in downtown Juarez I was stopped by the city police, no reason given. I was beaten (head injury) and robbed of about 160.00 USD. I somehow escaped and ran into the Mexican National Guard, who guided me into the El Paso del Norte footbridge to safely cross into the USA. I'm a Mexican who lives in the USA. Kind of Brown on Brown Crime.

Looks can be very deceiving. Juarez has a homicide rate exponentially higher than Philly. And that's not even counting all those that just disappear, mostly likely kidnapped, never to be seen again. And believe it or not, law enforcement is much more effective in Philly than Juarez. Yeah, you heard that right.

I walked about 10 miles theough Juarez last year (day time) didn't have any problems. People were happy to see a tourist. Seemed fine.

Parts of Philadelphia are so bad it's a biohazard zone. So many needles and refuse that the local families and children have no business walking those streets to school or the store. I lived in El Paso before and after the Juarez situation got so bad. So sad for their families and businesses.
I think things in Jaurez have gotten a bit better in recent years. There are still areas I would not got because of cartel rule but there are areas of the U.S. I will not go to because of gang violence and mass shootings.

My stepdad was from Ciudad Juárez and when i was about 6 we went there to live with his parents for several months because my stepdad was going to build them a bathroom that was actual connected to their home. all they had was an outhouse. I will never forget when we pulled into their yard. it was dirt roads, mud walls. My mother had an Alice cooper 8 track playing. pretty wild memories. And in just those handfull of months living there i could tell you some wilddd stories.

Between 2003 and 2006, I went to Juarez quite a bit in the evenings for dinner and drinks. I never encountered and problems. However, in 2006, the violence ramped up and I stopped going.
Pre-2006 Mexico wasn't that bad.
2006 is when the government started the drug war, as in send soldiers to deal with crime. It hasnt been working
I’ve been to both places. I was a kid when I went to Juarez and I recently took my family on Vacation to Philadelphia. Don’t get involved in illegal activity and you will be fine. I was surprised at how ghetto pretty much all of Philly was. We still had a good time lol.
Philly I feel like has been like that for decades thanks to unbelievably terrible leadership (democrat party has a stranglehold on that city so there’s no hope of it ever changing), so it’s reputation is in the gutter, and has been for a long time.
It’s truly a shame, as such a historic city deserves so much better.

As someone who moved from Denver to Ciudad Juarez, I found Denver to be a lot more scarier at night then Mexico, When i moved to México, I had to move to the outskirts of Juárez, Where the violence still persists but where the porest people live, Mainly people that weren’t born here in Juarez and came from the South of México(Chiapas, Veracruz, Quintana Roo) or people from South, Central America(Honduras, El Salvador, Panama or even Haiti) And when i moved i was scared as shit because not only does it look like Downtown Philly, But i always heard that it was impossible to be jn those areas at night, But once i started living there and ACTUALLY living the life of someone in there then I found out that it’s not really how they paint it, There is no Mass shooting every night, it’s not impossible to be roaming at night either, Actually, It’s even more fun being at the streets at night because that’s when the humble people come out of their houses to sell food, Of course im not saying that it is the most safest thing ever, But it’s not super unsafe either, And let me tell you that im not a person that usually comes out scare and shit because ive never dealt with someone trying to steal from me, Believe it or not, Here in Mexico there is alot of people with good stuff, Iphones and Good cars and shit, I found it enjoyable, Now not only that but it’s not easy to come by and find someone who wants to drug you either lol, Because ive already read alot of comments saying this shit.
Another thing is, This place im telling you guys about is what we call “Afueras de Ciudad Juarez” or “Las torres”(Las torres because that’s what the closest mall is named) And back then when i lived there, It was only Small houses and a lot of Territory with nothing but sand and trees, So it was just houses in the Middle of nowhere, Literally had to take a 50 minute trip to go to the nearest grocery store lol, Now a days Las Torres has alot more stuff, 1st world narrow streets and now has stores and restaurants all over the place so I’d imagine its ALOT more safer, Now i live one of the best places in Juárez which is way more cleaner, Way closer to the border and more of a Resemblance of a 1 World Country, No violence, No drive by, Nothing, Its super calm and tbh i have never felt any better, So no, Ciudad Juárez Mexico is not horrible, Its not Iraq, It’s very nice and easy to be in.
