Woah....I should probably test my new components too, thanks for the heads up! I'd enjoy seeing the filter pack, mostly because I've never seen one! All the best, Tim! Hey to Mrs. RW & the frisky kitties! LOL
I always try to use what I have on hand even though the filter pack doesn't seem to be a bad idea. I would also replace every bumble bee cap in that radio, I restored a "TO" about a year ago and my leakage tester indicated that all the bumble bee caps were leaky. Radio looks really nice.
Hopefully you're restoring an heirloom. I think that radio 📻 was manufactured as of December of 1950, just like 👍 the date 📅 code says. It could also be the first week of January, 1950. Really like 👍 your UA-cam channel!! Just subbed!! Your friend, Jeff!!
01:49 That scene is what I remember at hamfests circa 1985--a passel of TO's on a trailer...going for cheap prices, and you could take your pick of the litter. Nowadays, you're lucky to see one on a seller's table, and it's priced very high...
I think the terminal strip is the way to go Bob. Amazing it was still working it came out the same year I was born. I would also replace all of those bumble bee caps they have a bad reputation for going bad. Thanks for the video LL.
Hi Bob. I restored my Dad's old G500 he bought back in 1948 while in the US Army Air Forces (which became USAF right around the same time. I used the Filt-R-Pack and saved a lot of room and extra effort, but that's just my experience. I'm glad I did because it was otherwise a "capacitor Queen" to restore. LOTS of caps! I did a full re-alignment and it sounds and looks factory new now.
yes I have ran across some of those yellow capacitors I find that capacitor tester really handy and I also have sencore z meter too I test all my resistors too .
Terminal strip. No PC boards in this classic. All those bumble bees must go. I had the same capacitor explode on one of mine while I was checking it out. Foil and paper spewed all over the bench.
Oh My, a G500! Yup the best looking and the best sounding of the tubers. Like a fool, sold mine last summer. I think a Fil-Ter-Pack might be interesting Bob. Have thought about trying one, but the budget always seemed to win out, Picked up one of the testers, use it all the time. really handy. COLD -27 wind chill this morning.
Bumblebee caps all got to go. Yes buy the kit from him Bob. Tell him you are doing it on your YTchannel. I don't trust those cheap testers instead I have a PEAK Atlas ESR70 and a LCR45.
Wow, that was a FAST warmup on the battery pack! Excellent working condition for an all-original radio.

Use the terminal strip. We don’t need no stinkin’ filter pack! ;-)
I’d like to see that filter pack.
Small terminal strip please 😊
Terminal strip please.
Nice radio i will enjoy the progress 😊what are those testers called so I can find one thanks 😊
I meant the 12th week of January, 1950. Again, your friend, Jeff.
I like seeing the wording at the bottom of the dial scale "Made In United States of America". Nothing else these days can say that!

Wire it yourself. You will know the quality of the components you install.

Let's try the filter pack.
