Let me know if it works. I am an HVAC Tech who plays around on my 3 Cars in my driveway. So I am still learning more about how this tool works as needed.
Code results can be caused by faulty oxygen sensor wiring or bad grounds requiring a schematic and DVOM. Snap-on has the Advantage scanner that checks ignition voltages and frequency and other important tests. It's worth getting!
I do most of my troubleshooting with schematics coming from the HVAC world. Would you put the snap-on advantage over a fluke 88? I was looking at the fluke 88 for my generator testing and repairs. Currently, I use an ex-tech or a fieldpiece DVOM yet have been contemplating buying the 88v to replace the ex-tech. My Fluke 902 is my everyday go-to clamp meter since I do a lot of motor testing.
Bill's Tools The Snap-on Advantage is an automotive tester that checks ignition voltage patterns like a scope and it shows frequency readings from the test lead to check MAP sensors. It's an All-in-one tester! It shows wave patterns for the live scope test. It's complicated. It can record data for maybe 8 hrs! It's a good tester to have! On UA-cam, there's a garage mechanic in N.Y. that uses it all the time. A code tester will eliminate most problems. The Snap-on tester shows normal readings V. vehicle test readings for that car. The Actron CP9690 tests graphing oxygen sensor tests in two colors. The Green is normal and red is your vehicle so you can tell if it's normal. The Fluke 88 IS the top-of-the-line DVOM! The Snap-on tester has to be hooked up to the battery. It has a RPM cable. It may require personality keys from EBAY for different cars but they are only about $6.00 each. Try to get a group of keys if you work on multiple cars. They have like a K9 and K5 etc. The tester will tell you which you need. It won't work on OBDI I don't think. That mechanic in N.Y. demonstrated the Actron CP9690 on one vid. but he uses the Snap-on mostly. He demonstrated the drive cycle test. The Snap-on tester shows fuel injection pulsewidth and durations to isolate leaking injectors. A cyl. balance test on a code tester can do that but it don't show the waveform.
I trust Fluke when it comes to all types of meters. Testo is starting to also gain my trust in HVAC Test instruments. I only work on my cars I have 2004 civic and a 2002 Chevy Astro, my wife's 2017 accord goes to the dealership due to it being leased. UA-cam hide this message from me as if it was spam. Sorry about the late response. I will check into all the meters you mentioned yet wanted the fluke 88 for a while.
There is MAF reading. I was just using the scanner. A few days back I cleaned the MAS due to a P0101 code. Today an intermittent coolant out of range code popped up again. While scrolling through I seen the maf reading also
Warm up the engine before testing to eliminate false codes. After each repair, retest. Check the radiator water level first and oil. A low radiator can cause false CTS codes. A CTS that reads low when the temperature outside is higher can cause high idle and excessive fuel consumption. Check Troubleshooting features to correct faults. Update the tester if necessary. E-BAY has computer cords to update your tester. Actron CP9690 tests OBDI Ford, G.M., Chrysler, and 2 Toyota. It also tests OBDII.
Thank you I apreachiate any knowledge that helps me use this tool. I should look into the cord to update this scanner. I wish I had more time to work on my cars. The hot summe has me repairing too many broken ac systems instead. I will warm up the car before I use this test tool again.
My truck (Excursion) wouldn't start to warm it up... theft module?....it's the reason I bought the scanner....so I made a small fire under the engine and burnt my Excursion to the ground. THANKS A LOT PAL
Does this monitor transmission temperatures and operating parameters data such as oil crankcase temp as on each system, as temperature of turbo in real time?
Do you know if there's any computer software that you can connect to while using live data mode that will display everything on the computer? I'm new to OBD2 scanners and way better with a physical computer.
if anyone is looking for a carry case for this, here's the one I got, it works just fine as long as you put it in the case w/o cord attached, cord then can go into the mesh compartment; www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0792VHM7P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Vehicle speed? Does that tell you live data on each wheel speed sensors? You passed over it kinda quick.
Can you see data for cylinder misfires on this even if there is not a check engine light? Thanks
Testers test according to the factory test for each particular vehicle. It may not check ABS on one car but it might on another.
Just bought this one. My first scanner. Can i watch transmission live shift ??
I haven’t attempted that. Plug it into the car go to the live data and play around with it.
@@billstools5244 thanks

🙋Hello bud were you able to watch the transmission live shift?
Can you look at each individual wheel speed for the ABS sensors, or pinpoint which one is faulty? Be a big help if I knew 👍
Hi. I just bought one and it does tell you which one is bad.
Will the scan tool tell you the Oil Pressure like it does the Coolant temp
I couldn’t find the oil pressure reading when I used the tool the other day.
Does it run live data on ABS?
Thanks for your video. Do you know if this will check the abs sensors? Thanks
Steve O the Carpenter
This does show ABS DTCs. Which I currently have none presently stored. I hope I was able to answer your question

So no MAF reading?

@@billstools5244 did it read voltage or just lbs?
It was reading lbs from what I seen. Yet I will check into it again tomorrow.
South Main Auto uses the Snap-on Advantage analyzer. Look on UA-cam.
I will check it out. I haven’t seen any of his videos, yet read good things about that channel on garagejourals
Why is there no fuel trim?
Can u check the ATF temperature?
No it can not at least I haven’t figured out how to do that. It might depend to the vehicle on board computer

Doesn't monitor transmission temperatures or oil crankcase, temps

There are a bunch. That's how tuners see your cars data to tune it on their laptops.
The car's not running how you reading live data
Dose it show u trans fluid temp
I don’t think it does.
Bro you did you had no trouble codes but your 02 sensor says it’s to Lien wtf that’s stupid
Could it be from an exhaust leak?
