    Oh man, that 'Out Of The Box' album was an absolute classic. I bought it in Australia in 2004 and took it everywhere with me. Every party i went to i'd throw that CD on and everyone would go wild. Such a great moment in time!

      These guys were smashed as fuck I doubt they would talk about anything sober. Also there is a artist that does tunes for the living and there is a teacher who teaches for the living, two different things. You can bother a artist to teach you about things. He might go out of his way and show you few things but don't ask for too much. Most learned by them selves the ones who leech knowledge should just seek for a different profession. For a hobby I could understand but if you always bother others to learn things that you will cash in then you are in a wrong train. Basics are in school whatever you do afterwards is on you.

    So he doesn't like compressing beats but he clips them with the samplers gain by setting it to 105%? That's compression.I suppose everyone has their way and there are no rules really. Just do what sounds good to you.

    • @PetrolAudio
      @PetrolAudio 6 років тому +8

      No it's not compression, it's clipping, like you said. It kind of does the same thing but you will get clipping artefacts, which WILL change the sound. I don't know what sampler optical was using back then and there might've been a limiter built into it... But normaly you want to avoid clipping at all costs, at least in the digital realm!

    • @mynewcolour

    • @f67739
      @f67739 5 років тому +4

      @@PetrolAudio assuming that they constantly mention cutting to vinyl, ie analog output, then optical can get away with clipping especially for fast transient stuff like kicks and snares, since it will translate to harmonic distortion. analog systems have +20 dB of headroom

    • @SphericEl
      @SphericEl 5 років тому +2

      It's a technical used all over the place during the loudness wars.
      Clipping is quite different from compression and I would say compression changes the tone of a break of single drum hits more than gentle clipping.

    The unfortunate bit is that now everything they do is on a laptop, should have stuck with the analogue gear guys. Your new tracks, although they are properly made, they sound too shiny, too artificial. No more rich organic raw sound like the older tracks.

    • @XoArK
      @XoArK 7 років тому +1

      @k.c.lejeune6613 7 років тому +2

      XoArK I True, but it seems, at least to me, that making a track on the analogue gear would be more challenging and fun rather than digitally on a laptop which seems too easy. Tunes on a laptop could be made en masse which IMO don't have as much originality to them, like they are forced out to please the masses. It also would seem that using the analogue gear would make you focus and work harder on the track, thus giving it more life. Just my opinions.

      Although I agree that most modern DNB tracks sound artificial, I wouldn’t say it's fully due to the lack of equipment. If someone has the right ideas and techniques, they can create masterpieces with limited tech. Most early jungle tunes were made using only an Amiga, give or take a sampler and drum machine.

    • @maccagrabme
      @maccagrabme 6 років тому +7

      I can only listen to modern DNB for about 20 mins before I'm bored as it all has that linear beat that is too repetitive. The early stuff had a lot more rhythm, grit, sub and fury.

They all have their uses....I think get a lot of clipping done first then using a volume envelope to add shape is the best way to go....all three ways to shape volume are very different sounding in their own way. ;0)
