Ive got a system consisting of used speakers that cost £75, a free 30 year old Harman Kardon amp, a £25 pre amp and a used technics turntable that cost me £150 to service, and in the space I have to use it, it sounds wonderful. Gives me about 200 grand spare to buy another house.

We all have different priorities and dreams in life and different budgets. That's the beauty of life and there's nothing wrong with any of them.
I loved my first budget systems too, but there is no comparison in ANY shape or form to my current 100K stereo/cinema system.
On a budget I listened to music, with hi end I experience music. It's like every time I play music I'm sitting in the front row at a concert. Stunning berillium resolution, instrument seperation, sense of space and low 19htz bass. Some of my cds I've known very well for over 30 years, but only now I can hear for the first time sound frequencies which were not possible to reproduce before.

@robotstonka7118 each to his own man, but would be a complete waste on my dodgy ears. Constant tinnitus in both sides and several frequencies missing. Enjoy your passion, if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters.

In general for high tech product development, it would have to also consider minimizing the product footprint, weight, complexity and cost of material AT THE SAME TIME achieving the best performance (in this cast best Sound Quality) -- that would be the real value of a great product. What Gryphon did is just apart of it -- trying to achieve SQ without any constraint (some beyond reasonable limits for general usage). I would give it a fail grade as far as product development is concern.

Think about this: who are the consumers of these expensive gears? Most of them are aged audiophiles -- no matter how they love this and can afford it and have a mansion to put it , they will have to move this heavy iron and to consider if its physical size and dark color is intrusive to their high style living kingdom. So many times I was thinking about get one of these but abandoned the idea after considering their weights! In this case why not break it into two monos since it is a dual mono with two power cords anyway? What is Gryphon thinking?

@@roylcraft @AudioGuyBrian power requirement wise it’s an apples and oranges comparison. This is a class A amplifier which means it’s not very power inefficient. Not sure which “old Carver amp” you’re referring to but many of them had switch mode power supplies so even more of apples and oranges in that respect. Given the power supply and the output design It consequently inherently generates a lot of heat in the form of wasted power so it needs a substantial amount of heat sink surface. Is this thing practical? Well, it’s as practical as a McLaren or Koenigsegg or Aston Martin automobile for daily driving but you don’t buy those to get groceries or take the kids to the pool, you buy them to make a statement. This amp is a statement piece so just accept it as such.

There is also tests that shows that it cannot come up to the ultimate class like Jeff Rowland and Boulder. Despite the price is in the same league.
