Just the information I was looking for. When I looked under the dining chairs my heart sank at the task but your suggestions make it seem doable. Thank you
Thank you! I tried this over the weekend using a couple of dollars worth of wood and an old quilt and it worked perfectly! Especially after steam cleaning them, they look brand new. Saved me $$$
Hey Mark, How awesome of you to share that information with us when you could have easily kept it to yourself, requiring us to visit someone like yourself to restore the comfort end of our parson's chairs. I purchased some parson's chairs (second hand) and am finally getting around to reupholstering them, but noticed that the seat portion sagged quite a bit. I'm so excited that you're kind enough to share some great insight and advice for those of us who are not professionals. It looks like I could stand to watch a few more of your videos as well, so I'm a grateful new subscriber! Thank you again for so willingly sharing what "the average Joe or Jill" can do to restore this parson's chair!
Thank you so much! So glad I kept on searching. This is exactly what I needed to know how to fix! We have 8 diningroom chairs, but the fix would work the same. It also has the same webbing. It is easy enough to do and won't cost me 150$ per chair. Very much appreciated.
This is just what we need! Our chairs sagged only a few weeks after we got them new. Furniture repair quoted $250 each which is what each chair cost to buy. If only we had tools like you have.
This is a very proper way! After wathcing your video, I looked around my room and see what I have got, end up I just used newspaper and 6 steel clothing hangers for a quick fix on mine
Thanks Mark, you've given me hope that our dining chairs from Harvey Norman's don't have to be discarded. Your explanations and flow are very clear. Wish me luck, to take it from here!
Great video! I just bought my accent chair but I wanted to see what would be possible years from now to make it last, such a simple trick that is easy to remember years from now for when I need to do it! Thanks!
That is a great idea. I decided to try to replace the webbing in my sagging dining room table chair. Can you recommend the best webbing to use as a replacement?
I’m doing just one accent chair. The spring broke off. This I believe will be my best bet! Looks very sturdy! Just what I need for my living room. Great! Thx ☺️
Great video! Are you able to share what type of foam that is? What is the thickness of foam you are using (I know it might be chair subjective)? Is it available at a hardware store or specific to furniture?
I used 40 compression(medium). I order from a foam company. You can get foam in different thicknesses on Amazon. Thickness is determined by the space you fill.
Would this trick work on a 3 seated sofa in leather as well? Its exactly the same straps but wider apart and the middle seat is sagged down quite a lot. The straps / webbing are way too long since its a 20 year old well loved member of my family 😂 Prices over here in Sweden for materials and labor is at least tripled by comparison to the states and other countries so I can't realty afford asking a professional to fix it for me.. 😢
Thanks Mark! Quick question if you have a moment. I have a very similar chair even down to the strap color (restoration hardware - disappointed in them). However the chair you're working on seems to have a deeper cavity to work with. After removing the bottom fabric, I only have a 2.5" deep cavity to the straps. Doesn't leave much room for a 2" piece of foam (looking at what you recommended) and maybe .5 square plywood and min of 1" for the brace. Even if I get that to work, will it then just feel like I'm sitting on a board?
Your best option is to use 3 inch foam webbed in from the bottom with jute webbing. Yes, doing as in the video with less cavity will make the seat firmer
Don’t have a tight back video. They usually have to be reworked during reupholstery. Some backs are semi-attached cushions that can be unzipped from the bottom and insert removed.
my chairs have all sorts of strangeness going on underneath and I don't know if I can do the same thing? there webbing, springs and shoelace type ribbons running through it

This was so helpful - exactly what I was looking for, and a simple solution! Appreciate the instruction.

Excellent project for a DIY
Easy to understand video.
We all have chairs like this!

Thank you, fixed ours yesterday worked a treat 👍
I would like to thank you for this video. I did the same thing as you showed and it worked really well.
Great, that's just what I needed to know. Thank you.
Excellent! Thank you!! What type of wood was used for the seat square?
@@iluvhou I used 5/4 poplar 1 1/8x 1 1/8 and 1/2 plywood. Any 1 inch square or 2x2 from the box stores will work.
Thanks ...this video was so helpful
Just what I needed to know!
Thank you!
That is a great idea. I decided to try to replace the webbing in my sagging dining room table chair. Can you recommend the best webbing to use as a replacement?
Preferably rubber webbing or jute as a second option
I have a Victoria chair seating deck and a loose feathers cushion
How could I re enforce the deck?
Easy peasy, it is greatly appreciated.
I’m doing just one accent chair. The spring broke off. This I believe will be my best bet! Looks very sturdy! Just what I need for my living room. Great! Thx ☺️
Thank you. I believe I can do that.
Oh wow, my sofas are getting fixed, now, ready or not ! And, many thanks !!!
Good luck with your project
Thanks mate! Really appreciate this tip. 🤩
Where can I buy that drill bit you are using at 3:16 -- looks like you are counter sinking and inserting a pilot hole?
I get my countersink bits at Lowe’s.
I primarily use the #10
Great direction thank you what thickness is the plywood and the strips that will hold it down. Thanks
Thank you appreciate it so much
This is excellent. Thank you.

Hi Mark, great video. What kind of wood were you using? Or what kinds of wood can be used?
5/8 plywood and 1 1/4 poplar. Thanks ken
Are the poplar wood supports 1x1 or 1x2…?
thank you. Grate solution

Generally, you can web in foam from underneath
I need you to come do my chair’s because I’m not crafty enough 😂
Perfect! Thank you

@@MarksUpholstery Thanks Mark! Good idea. I’ll look into this jute webbing.
My 3 yr old granddaughter said she loves the music.
🙂
Big gracias easy solution to my chairs.
Where is your workshop ?
Oklahoma
Hiya from Barbados again!!!!
Beautiful place, want to trade😁
Thank you this is perfect for me to do thanks
Thank you.
Nice instructions 👍
Thanks Jose
Do you have a video showing how to plump up the back of a chair that isnt a loose cushion.
Don’t have a tight back video. They usually have to be reworked during reupholstery. Some backs are semi-attached cushions that can be unzipped from the bottom and insert removed.
Excelent video
Easy, thanks!
Thank you😉
How thick plywood are you using in this video please
5/8
my chairs have all sorts of strangeness going on underneath and I don't know if I can do the same thing? there webbing, springs and shoelace type ribbons running through it
Not all furniture has the same structure.
Can you do that with a couch with springs
You can cram foam in coil springs or add foam above zigzags
Thank u
I fixed a friend's dining chairs yesterday. It worked out perfectly. Thank u again. Happy Holidays
