The hitbox of the piranha plants is bigger in the All-Stars versions which means that you can't jump over them anymore
aw man no more speedrunning 4-1 i guess...
Truuuee
This and the breaking blocks stuff is what I don't like. I prefer the original.
More stuff:
• Several enemies (notably the Piranha Plant) have changed hitboxes
• The bonus areas have their own unique music now
• In addition to the music when you face Bowser in the castles, in 8-4 it plays a different song
• Due to a programming mistake, hitting a block such as a breakable brick sends Mario slightly upwards instead of downwards
• Luigi has his own set of sprites instead of being a Mario recolor (this applies to the other All-Stars games as well)
• Since it is a direct port, many glitches from the original game are still present, while others, such as entering the minus world were fixed (though you can still clip into the walls)
• Doing a "bullet bill glitch" on World 8 causes the game to softlock since Mario now has the new animation when entering the castle after the flagpole
• The backgrounds have parallax scrolling, and other SNES exclusive effects
• There are more particle effects than in the original, such as when collecting coins
• Sound effects were added to some events that previously had none, like Lakitus throwing spinies and Hammer Bros tossing hammers
• The sneak peek screen before the level starts can be slightly skipped now by pressing B or A, no skip in the original
• The underwater area in 8-4 keeps the castle music instead of changing to the underwater music like in the original
There might be even more, but you'd really have to dig in deep and know the games mechanics inside and out
All Stars is actually a port of all 4 games with enhanced visuals, physics and bug fixes. There are glitches that remain though
6:31 in the nes version, this is actually because of the palette of the mushroom platforms, since it shares the same palette as the flagpole. this applies to all other colored flagpoles.
I love the art style of All Stars. It’s truly a really well-made remake.
I both love it and miss the purity of the original. I think if the original could have had parallax, busier backgrounds, and maybe just 1-2 more sprite colours, it would have been perfect.
@@spacelemsmb2J had better graphics.
Yes same here
0:00 the snes is actually compatiable with the orginal nes instruction set, the orginal super mario bros was ported with minimal changes.
Wild how this remaster was kinda left behind
On the NES, the majority of enemies change palette colors in underground and castle levels (and underwater levels too technically, but that's only seen in the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2/Lost Levels). In All-Stars, only the Goombas change palette depending on location, while other enemies do not. This also applies to the Bullet Bills in the original 6-3, though that level's palette was totally overhauled for All-Stars, anyway.
In All-Stars, you get a time bonus for finishing a castle level. On the NES, there is no time bonus for castle levels.
In the NES, if you get hit as big Mario, while invincible, you can touch an enemy (except firebars for some reason), and the enemy won't kill you as long as you keep touching it. This doesn't work in All-Stars.
In All-Stars, if you beat 8-4 as big Mario or fire Mario, you'll start 1-1 with that power-up. On the NES, you always start 1-1 as small Mario.
The invisible underwater Piranha Plant in 8-4 on the NES is visible in All-Stars.
0:43 I noticed that Mario's lives at the start are diferent, the original starts with 3 lifes, but the remake starts with 5
Why didn't you mention anything about Luigi?
Good video. One thing that you might want to mention is that this only includes aesthetic differences and no physics nor glitch differences. Still added a subscription.
the brick block physics and hit boxes are different plus a few glitches were fixed
@@alanthevideomaker646 The brick block physics is actually due to an error in the code of a + instead of a -, so when Mario hits a block in All-Stars he'll gain upward velocity instead of downward velocity. This of course doesn't make sense, in fact Mario can hit a brick at the top end of his jump and suddenly GAIN upward speed again
Would love to see more vids on All-Stars Lost Levels, 2, 3 and, if you'd like, the All-Stars + Super Mario World version!
In The NES, When You Get Over The Flagpole At World 3-3, The Castle At The End Has Infinite Walls, Those Wall Are Also Used In 8-3 in The NES, In The SNES, The Walls in 8-3 Is Changed And Its Now Part Of The Background,
The Infinite Walls In The Castle Are Now Removed In The SNES Remake
It's funny how I just saw a video comparing SMB and SMB on GBA, I go to look up the difference between SMB and SMB A-S and I find this video less than a month old, made in 2024. Crazy!
The true Bowser battle in World 8 also has a different final boss theme where there was none in the orginal
Cool vid! Please do the others!
The way you break brick blocks is slightly different between versions. In NES/Famicom, you get bumped back down. In SNES, you don't and get pulled up a bit instead. This applies to Lost Levels as well.

Both fire Mario sprites have white overalls.
It would be nice to see you do the other games
I always wished that future releases of SMB1 after All-Stars used the All-Stars version instead of the nes. It’s such a better version. Also, tbh I wish they used the ending from The Lost Levels in it,
I think the NES version is a little better just because the blocks don’t work right in this one. Other than that it’s kinda just a case of whichever graphics and sound you prefer, and I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other in that regard.
I never knew of this game. I always thought the new version of Mario for SNES was the game with Yoshi
You forgot to mention that the minus world is removed but the glitch is still there in the allstars
The hammer bros will run after you if you wait awhile in the remake
NES fire Mario had white overalls, not beige
If you notice between the two forms, there is a slight tinge of color on the overalls when he gets a Fire Flower.
It's a shame that the physics of Mario Bros 1 All Stars are horrendous
Mario bros 2 please and lost levels
I think in 6-3 was supposed to be ice, someone told me, but all stars doesn't use there ice, so idk
Super Mario Land GB is Easier then Super Mario Bros. NES
-1 world?
aka level 36?
Smb ground was just ground, not bricks (idk if you said it as a joke)
It looks like rubble stone or something.
the smb1 ground was actually breakable like bricks, but idk if thats what he was talking about
@@JustJory no it’s not.
@@JustJory i know bro, but it's still ground
@@newsuperbowserworld seriously prove it for your self, just launch a emulator, put a moon jump cheat and jump and you will break the bottom ground blocks
All stars goombas look like owls
I have Super Mario Advance 2 & 4 (Mario World and SMB 3) on the GBA, and the voicelines for getting a mushroom are burned into my brain.
