I was just thinking its about a year since Neil died and this video shows up. I remember where I was when I heard he died. Still hurts to know he’s gone.
I am 57. My Dad did not appreciate the music of my youth. He was a drummer from the 50's. I learned drums from him. When I played Rush in my bedroom as a teen. He knocked on my door and asked who was that? I pointed to the poster on three long haired guys and said Rush. He said no, who is drumming?? My Dad came in and listened and smiled. Thank you for that Neil!!!!
Peart once wrote "I cant pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend." To many of us you were not a stranger you were that long awaited friend. Thank you for many years of inspiration.
Whether it's soundcheck or concert I always marvel at Neil's playing. It's always business with him, complete concentration striving for perfection always. No time for goofing around. RIP Neil.
I remember when I turned 12 in a marching band al I listen to rush and this drummer named Neil peart a true musician and a professor and he wrote the lyrics probably the best drummer of all time
What a tragic loss to the world. A true inspiration to so many people. Thank you Neil and whoever was involved in the creation and release of this video.
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
WOW! THIS was AWESOME! Neil was my Hero, My Mentor and the REASON I became a Drummer/Percussionist and STILL AM 42 yrs. Later! He IS. WAS, and ALWAYS WILL BE MY HERO, MENTOR and MAIN INSPIRATION! WE ALL MISS YOU SO MUCH MAESTRO! MORE THEN YOU KNOW!!! :(
Thank you again. What a major loss but insanely huge and talented legacy. The only reason I have any intelligence is because I picked Rush to be my favorite band at 13. I’m 52 now. I’m sure his 1st wife and daughter Selena were there to greet him. A great man.
"The only reason I have any intelligence is because I picked Rush to be my favorite band at 13." Best comment ever. I think many of us can say the same.
Could of met Neil personally in Colorado in the summer of 2017 but I knew that if I had of attempted to try to meet him, I wouldn't be able to control my nerves and I would have made a complete fool out of myself.
I was lucky enough to meet them (except Neil)and get a personal tour through all the equipment on stage. It was long a detailed. . I put my head inside his amazing drum palace. I was honored and amazed as a drummer who grew up trying to play like the god! Got to do it three times, 3 different tours. Snakes and arrows was one of them….man miss them touring.
"A personal impact" I man I have never met in person. His speaking in interviews, his music/drumming abilities, his song lyrics, and book writing, has touched me more then I can begin to explain. At the same time, I am able to find joy and happiness. My heart breaks with sadness to such a loss. A man with so much impact. I find myself thinking......"What would Neil think? How would Neil feel? I first heard about Neil's death right after coming home from my first doctor's visit, that was the beginning of my own battle with thyroid cancer. It hit me hard. He has been such an inspiration and I still miss him every single day.
I have this DVD, it's great. I've made my tribute to Neil with a Bravado cover. Great compositional drummer, Neil had it all - the attention to detail is one of his many qualities I admire so much. RIP.

He taught me so much about feel, pulse, and purpose for playing...serve the song. There is always a "Peart spice" to whatever song I play when I play, whether it be at church or a gig. You can't help but be transformed once you hear how he prepared and approached the drums. Every rehearsal I am analyzing and taking notes so when it's time to play, I have it all worked out and there is nothing left to chance. I can't thank him enough in how he influenced my in my drumming and my view of life. He was far more than a drummer, he left an impact that will be felt for generations
