In this video I take the RK by King Kutter 1.5 Ton XB Dump Trailer on it's first trip to haul some firewood. I think this is the perfect trailer for a subcompact tractor or a side x side rktractors.com
UNCLEDOUG HERE WE HAVE HAD ONE FOR 7 YEARS AND LOVE IT WE HAD THE INSIDE RHINO LINED THEN PUT A 1" HORSE MAT IN THE FULL FLOOR IT MADE THE UNIT BOMB PROOF !!!!!! WE HALL AND DROP ROCK IN FROM THE TRACTOR AND FIRE WOOD DOESN'T HURT IT !!! GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!
I bought one after seeing your video. I installed an electric hydraulic pump. My tractor has no rear hydraulics. Line-Xed the bed. Put a better jack on (side wind not top wind). Had a lunette hitch fabricated. Building a tool rack to go on the front with some Artilian parts. Putting tubes in tires. Replaced the tailgate chain with a SS chain. I do suggest pulling the wheels off & lightly greasing the hub exterior. Two wheels seemed to be sticking when I took them off. Nice trailer.
That's a beast of a dump trailer. You will definitely get a lot of use out of it. I have one that I use for my ATV and the BX 24. Not an RK. I use it mostly for transporting split firewood and branches from downed trees. For branches I remove the tailgate and place a ratchet strap across the rear of the bed before I load the branches. When fully loaded I strap the branches together and leave a tail. I'll tie that up high in the woods where I dump and drive away. The whole load gets emptied easily. Mine is rated for 2500 lbs with floating tandem axles. More than enough for my vehicles. Beautiful weather here in the lower Hudson Valley too Mike but still lots of snow on the ground.
Hi Mike the Trailer is probably the most versatile and useful investment you can make on a farm/ranch and that is one nice Traler the best of luck with it
Picked up a RK dump trailer today at Rural King. The closest store is 3 hours away. I’m looking forward to putting it to work around the property! Thanks for the review.
Mike, Great video that trailer sure looks handy! That swivel head and tandem axle are awesome features as well! I like how the manual pump is a double valve or whatever they call it meaning the trailer goes up on each pump both up and down. My father had a race car jack like that he used when he used to race pro stocks and man you’d lift a car in 2 pumps! That’s a nice feature so you don’t tire yourself out pumping after a long days work in the woods! -Jay
Great trailer.i bought one last year.the best investment I've made for my property.i pull it with my 2013 Kubota rtv900,it's durable tracks well and will hold a lot of weight.it raises up very quickly even when fully loaded and is very stable on uneven ground good luck with yours and enjoy
I just recently got back into the habit of watching your videos...and I’m hooked again. You do a great job demonstrating and describing the various equipment you use. Great job, neighbor! (Leesburg, VA)
Mike, That is an awesome looking trailer! I bet you will get a lot of use out of that baby…:) We have a Yutrax TX158 Trail Warrior X2 ATV Utility Trailer that we have used the heck out of for the past several years around the hacienda. It works great for hauling firewood, brush, rock and tools. We use either our Polaris Ranger or one of the quads to tow it. The Yutrax rig is a lot smaller than your trailer and I have had to add plywood to the bottom as the expanded metal is a little thin there. I think it can carry around 1000 to 1200 pounds. I sure wish we had a Rural King store here in New Mexico!
Very nice. Not just the tractor but the video is top notch. I would not be surprised if they put you on loop in their stores. I think you need an agent.
I agree, Mike's pic is soon to be greeting us at the door. As soon as you walk in the audio kicks on: "Hi everybody, Mike here. Welcome to Rural King." (These video's are like Peanut M&M's, gotta have them by the bag full). :)
You are on to something Patrick. How could I forget the hand rub, if Mike's not quick I may trademark that and start collecting residuals everytime he does it. I'll be rich!!........ Won't I?
Another nice addition! I made a smaller one when my boat trailer axle bent. Figured I wouldn’t let it go to waste when I replaced it. It wasn’t bent bad. Would just wear tires unevenly over time. Perfect for a trailer around the yard. Had some scrap metal and got to welding. Made it 5 x4 I think. The bed is just balanced on a hinge and spring latched on the front. When I pull the latch, it’s an uncontrolled full dump. Very handy piece of gear, plus the kids can handle it with the atv. Putting the kids to work is always a plus!
Nice trailer! Since I have had back surgery, I believe I would leave the wood in the trailer, and then transfer to your splitter. Saw the RK 55 this weekend up close. Really nice tractor.
Awesome trailer! We were in the same debate on which one to get. What started out with a wheelbarrow ended up with a DR Versa Trailer 1/2 ton which I think is just right for garden tractors and smaller ATVs.
I found one of these trailers used here in New Hampshire and bought it for $300. I love it and it's so easy to back up with the axles together. Much easier than backing up a hay trailer and still has four wheels.
You are a lucky man! I Just got a glimpse of all those implements and know your brain is spinning at all the different projects you can do. Giddy-Up Buddy! Oh, and a disc too? Manicured wilderness.
Nice to finally see one of those trailers in action! They are about the perfect size. Looking forward to seeing what other attachments you get the opportunity to use and demo!! Thanks for the great videos about the good life!
Just an idea but leave the tailgate closed and tip it up when you have firewood in it, stand at the back and pick the pieces out of the trailer and split them, instead of dumping them on the ground and bending down to pick every piece up. I’m 6’2 and let me tell you it’s a back saver!
Copy and pasted my response to everyone else that said that lol "I already told someone else the same thing, you are correct, However had I not dumped the full load there would have been a 100 comments "why would you do a dump trailer review and not dump the load of firewood!!!!!" Lol"
No stake pockets? What if you wanted to extend the side for lighter loads like straw, hay or wood chips? I like the capacity and functionality of the trailer but a good utility trailer will accommodate many applications. I have been looking for something like this but the commercial trailers that do what I want are too big and expensive for my needs.
Dana~I have the same trailer and really would have liked to have had some 'cage' sides for leaf mulch and branches. One comment suggested 'ratchet straps' but it would be nice to have that added height like the DR Versa Trailer option. Still it is a really good trailer, pull mine with a Kubota rtv 1100C, works slick!
You have a great deal of equipment, I think you need a barn now to put your toy's in. I'm west of you in Ohio your about to get some weather to make things wet.
Looks well built and heavy gauge metal. others I see, seem flemsey for the box part. Did the trailer come all together or was it in a box or boxed pallet when you picked it up?
Great video Mike! Love the trailer and will probably got one from Rural King! It might help if you started putting a link to the Rural King website so that folks can go see the exact item online!
Lol mike I was just saying how u needed a trailier I have one about the same size 50*84 and it is the best thing ( electric over hydraulic) they really are great throw your gear in the utv bed and carry a full load of wood out in the trailer can't be beat
Mike, Thanks for the review. Funny that I actually had the trailer in my browser the other day when you brought it up. Any chance you can reverse your side camera on the SxS to show what the suspension does when rolling down the trail? We have a lot of the same situations here in Missouri, but likely a little more rock in the soil. We even have a Rural King, but on the wrong side of the state. I usually hit one when we visit family in Ohio. Keep the videos coming, we really enjoy them. Rob
Really nice little dump trailer. I eyed one of those down some time back. Love the independent rear wheel action while tandem. As always Mike, very well done video. Have fun and be safe.
You should build a pole barn for the attachments and it could also be used for when there's people over Ike 4th of July and can cook under it and hang out
Great review on the new trailer Mike. Have always wanted something like that for my firewood harvesting efforts, but like you, had a hard time justifying the expense. Looks like that will be quite the handy accessory to have around. I suspect your 3 point carry all may get a tad lonely for the time being!
I would like safety chains. I don't often dump firewood as my old man's back don't care to pick it up any more often than I just have to. I have recently acquired a Fiskars Hookaroon. It is the best purchase I've made in a while. I get more done with less pain. I just saw one on Ebay used for 30.95. I payed a lot more for mine. Keep up the good videos.
I’d rather watch OWtM than the news and what was at the top of the menu on my iPad but this oldie with Mike and the ole RED Tractors. Merry Christmas Morgans (and you probably won’t see this). But a view is a view 😄 🎄
I really like the trailer. You talked about hooking it to your tractor hydraulic lines, would need to flush out the hydraulic fluid out of the pump and cylinder and put recommended fluid from your tractor manufacturer so not to contaminate the tractor system for warranty? Thanks for the informative video! Wayne
Good idea, I was thinking of doing that but even though I pride myself on firewood being all the same length it does vary a little lol. So I cut 16" and if I'm a little long I can't fit 3 end to end width ways. Perfectly 16" is 48" and the trailer is 50" but I will try that next time
Have you built the new building yet? Where are you storing all the tractors? Will you ever use the 3901 again? No signs of spring yet here in MA. Keep up the good work.
Outdoors With The Morgans Thanks for the reply. Look forward to see what you chose for an outbuilding. I remember you mentioned a three wall style in the past.
For the tailgate, do they have a switch that goes in the tractor that pops open the tailgate so that you can spread gravel or is it just a manual thing...?
Nice little trailer...doubt it could fit 1.5 tons of gravel...just not enough room. Be careful with heavier loads...stopping is a real issue. 1.5 tons is not much weight for a truck or even a 30-40 horse tractor, but that thing doesn't have trailer brakes, so the only stopping power will be the tractor/side by side. A dry brake tractor is a death trap with a load behind it. Stay safe and great video!
Jason Jeffers, I was thinking the same thing but did the math, not heaped at all it's just about 1 cubic yard, crusher run limestone is about 1.6 tons per yard so I think loaded with crusher run it would be full and right at rated capacity
Love your channel and look forward to new segments. I see a ton of new implements in the background. Thinking maybe your new tractor supplier is sponsoring your channel. Good for you, but I am envious. 😈
Thanks for your prompt reply, I had missed that segment. Either way, good for you and I’m still envious. Lol! I’ll look forward to seeing how much you can accomplish in two years. Good luck to you.
Nice trailer Mike but please just throw the firewood in. you get to stack it in your yard. P. S.watched your wife's cross fit video. Don't give her any trouble!.
does this mean you will haul cut logs back closer to home and use the log splitter to split them there.. instead of hauling the splitter into the woods ? (if they lowered that edge of the gate slightly below back edge of bed would allow payload to slide smoothly out of dump bed onto and over gate) - I wouldn't want to remove gate just to dump logs...still darn nice trailer though.
Good afternoon nice video I am looking for a good utility trailer for a Kubota RTV 1100 machine is great bed is just not big enough for all tasks but I have one question is there any way you can get a better picture or maybe shoot a video of how you hooked up the auxiliary hydraulic lines on the pump because I will be talking to my local Kubota dealer about putting auxiliary hydraulics on the machine and would like to use it like that myself thank you
I have been hem hawing different trailers for a while. I keep going back to this particular one since I don't currently have rear-remotes on my tractor, but want them in the future. Actually, I am thinking about getting a 12V Hydraulic Power Pack and mounting to one that way I could drop the trailer with 3point and use a wireless remote to control it. Still one major issue, no one carries this trailer in stock in my area and it will have to be ordered. Though, no one carries anything other than your lawn tractor sized trailers in stock in my area.
Would be nice if it had an onboard battery and 12v pump. It's cool that it can run off the tractor remotes but then you can't use the tractor to load it up. 🤷♂️ Definitely good for hand loading firewood though!
Nice addition to the arsenal! Looking forward to seeing more of it in future vids. With this new trailer, will you be using the carry all you built? Sure the carry all doesn’t dump or carry the capacity of the trailer but dollar for dollar, a carry all seems easier to maneuver, more affordable and adjustable loading heights. Any thoughts?
Mike…I agree …the trailer is most versatile and will be your most used accessory. Check out Pascals Principles for the how and why on the hydraulics! Also…do you foresee the need for a bed liner or something to protect the bed?
I know this is an old video, but I've been watching most of yours about this trailer. I'm seriously considering buying one but I have a question that I can't seem to find anybody talk about. I know these have articulating axles to go over obstacles and stuff but this trailer not having the angle sides like some of the other ones I'm curious if you've ever gone over an obstacle that caused the tire to hit the underside of the bed? Hopefully you get this and can give me some insight. Thank you
I know its a little late but articulated axles have stops on them to limit their up and down. Motion. The trailers with flared sides that go up over the wheels have a lower center of gravity and would be more stable on hills. The drawback is they have a lower and narrower floor of you want to move sheet goods or pallets and such. The full floor trailers sit higher up so you can load and unload objects by hand easier. Just depends on what you are primarily going to use the trailer for.
I know you were wanting to try it out, but it looked to be about the same hight as the splitter it would make like a giant table and you wouldn't have to pick it back up off the ground again
A.L.L. Firewood , I already told someone else the same thing, you are correct, However had I not dumped the full load there would have been a 100 comments "why would you do a dump trailer review and not dump the load of firewood!!!!!" Lol
About 75% of the time, I leave my backhoe attached to my JD 3320. At the opening scene, I was all excited (alas, in vain) that you had figured out an elegant way to tow the dump trailer by the tractor without having to remove the backhoe.
I wonder how that trailer would do with an IBC tote of firewood or water in back. This is an older video. This may be before you transitioned to using IBC totes for firewood
Oooh shiny, I like. Great looking setup very versatile. Firewood, dirt ,rock , manure removal.
That thing raises up by hand a lot faster then I expected. Thumbs up
that's what she said
him driving down that dirt road with the trailer reminded me of my ol stomping grounds i grew up on. hauled a lot of firewood on that road too
I bought one after seeing your video.

Rune Bekkelund, Nice idea with the branches
That compact tractor is a sweet little machine. The trailer looks like a handy tool to have as well.
I bet you can't wait to get up in the morning ! 😃
Nice trailer 👌 I'm liking all this new equipment,
Keep these videos coming Mike 👍

Nice trailer. Some of the firewood in the side by side might have helped on traction.

I can picture that video greeting.....does the patented 'hand-rub' as he says, "Welcome to Rural King" :-)

I've been eyeing that dump trailer at rural king, can't get it passed by the finance committee lol
BUY HER A MOVIE & DINNER DONT SKIMP NEATHER
RK needs to come to Maine. That is a mighty fine trailer..
I found one of these trailers used here in New Hampshire and bought it for $300. I love it and it's so easy to back up with the axles together. Much easier than backing up a hay trailer and still has four wheels.
Thats a deal!

Again, jealous of the weather mike! Southern ontario isnt quite at that point yet, but i am confident its coming!

Looks like an excellent dump bed. I just bought the log splitter you recommended from RK. So far it’s been a great buy 👍🏻.
Looks well built and heavy gauge metal. others I see, seem flemsey for the box part. Did the trailer come all together or was it in a box or boxed pallet when you picked it up?
Your a great promoter for RK. a win / win for both of you...
Great video Mike! Love the trailer and will probably got one from Rural King! It might help if you started putting a link to the Rural King website so that folks can go see the exact item online!
Will do
That looks like a very nice trailer. Thanks for the great review.
Lol mike I was just saying how u needed a trailier I have one about the same size 50*84 and it is the best thing ( electric over hydraulic) they really are great throw your gear in the utv bed and carry a full load of wood out in the trailer can't be beat
Mike,
Thanks for the review.
Rob
Equalizer suspension, classic three point support. Nice!
LOL "probably shouldn't have loaded it up that much!" Isn't that like the motto for use equipment guys!?
beautifully made. I love the simple hydraulics.
Thanks for the 'demo video' Mike great job as always!
That's an AWESOME trailer! Great video Mike. I might have to look at one up close.
That a nice little rig for sure! Nice Mike.
OMG I can not let my wife see that. LOL The sub compact. I would like the trailer.
I'm officially jealous Mike. Awesome for you can't wait to see it hooked up to the rk24.
Great video. That trailer pretty sweet. An hand pump is pretty quick for manual mode.
trailer look great ideal for delivering firewood
Stack the firewood lengthwise instead of sideways and it should all roll out fine. Great looking trailer.
Thanks for the trailer test. I will be buying one this month!
Wayne
Yup im gonna have to come down and find a RK and get one of these for my ranger 900
Nice. I can attach that to my Jeep Wrangler while a tractor has the blade to work on a driveway or trail.
Stack the wood the other way it rolls out don’t burn your transmission out in your Polaris Best of luck
Good idea, I was thinking of doing that but even though I pride myself on firewood being all the same length it does vary a little lol. So I cut 16" and if I'm a little long I can't fit 3 end to end width ways. Perfectly 16" is 48" and the trailer is 50" but I will try that next time
She's a beaut Mike, try stacking the rounds so they roll out, maybe? Good little trailer and I see you do have a post hole attachment, excellent!
That is a great looking and functional trailer ! I need one
Have you built the new building yet? Where are you storing all the tractors? Will you ever use the 3901 again? No signs of spring yet here in MA. Keep up the good work.
chris hebb, No building yet. I'm fast not that fast lol, I have two garages now, not sure on 3901
Outdoors With The Morgans Thanks for the reply. Look forward to see what you chose for an outbuilding. I remember you mentioned a three wall style in the past.
What does it cost? May have missed you mentioning that. But please do reply. Thx
What did you ever do with that dump trailer?, and should I buy one!
Another great video Mike! But I have a question. Will the backhoe on the RK24 or the others, have to be removed to use the trailer?
Been thinking about that trailer. Thanks for the review.
Terry
Mike, just a heads up. King Kutter also makes the XB, which has a 3000 lb capacity. $2700 (Approx)
Gary Crumrine, that's the trailer in the video. Same thing
For the tailgate, do they have a switch that goes in the tractor that pops open the tailgate so that you can spread gravel or is it just a manual thing...?
Looks like a really nice unit.
Nice little trailer...doubt it could fit 1.5 tons of gravel...just not enough room. Cool! I had 2 ton on my dump truck a few days ago and I thought it was much bigger.
Love your channel and look forward to new segments. I see a ton of new implements in the background. Thinking maybe your new tractor supplier is sponsoring your channel. Good for you, but I am envious. 😈
Mike Johnson, Watch video 124, explained it all there
Thanks for your prompt reply, I had missed that segment.
The side by side may have got better traction with weight in the back of it as well?
does this mean you will haul cut logs back closer to home and use the log splitter to split them there.. instead of hauling the splitter into the woods ? (if they lowered that edge of the gate slightly below back edge of bed would allow payload to slide smoothly out of dump bed onto and over gate) - I wouldn't want to remove gate just to dump logs...still darn nice trailer though.

Looks like a great trailer
RK needs to come to Texas!!!
What kind of discounts do i get on this equipment because We are Friends ?
Rob Bobcat, lol
you must feel like a kid a x-mas Mike, that's awesome little trailer.
Great dump trailer wish i had 1
Sweet, his and hers tractors.
Try stacking the firewood sideways in the trailer so it rolls right out!
Mike…I agree …the trailer is most versatile and will be your most used accessory. Check out Pascals Principles for the how and why on the hydraulics! Also…do you foresee the need for a bed liner or something to protect the bed?
Bed liner of some sort would be nice but it would have to be very smooth so dirt and rock doesn't hang up
Now you're talking gravity vs. coefficient of friction. It's always scientific with you. Try keeping it simple for a change!
That is a lot of trailer for the price. RK will be selling a lot of them soon.
Seems like they could re-design the tailgate so that when its open it would be like half an inch lower?
Hey Mike,
How robust are the axles? Are they sealed bearings or do they use zerk fittings? Would love a close up of the axle design.
Awesome videos!
Outdoors With The Morgans haha true, That trailer is awesome
Love the dump trailers
About 75% of the time, I leave my backhoe attached to my JD 3320. At the opening scene, I was all excited (alas, in vain) that you had figured out an elegant way to tow the dump trailer by the tractor without having to remove the backhoe.
That is a cool little trailer!
Sure is a nice piece of turf you folks own.
that trailer looks sweet
How big of a quad would you recommend for pulling up hills say 20% grade on a dry day 1000lbs load?
Mike i wondering Do you have Ktac insurance on your Kubota? If you do how much do you pay and do you think it is worth it?
I wonder how that trailer would do with an IBC tote of firewood or water in back. This is an older video. This may be before you transitioned to using IBC totes for firewood
Oops you dropped the wood on ground now you got to pic them up to split. I know you just wanted to show us a thing or two.
