These games are criminally underrated. I ran off to make the review as soon as I finished this one because people NEED to play this! Here's hoping Orange sells a billion copies and makes more cool games for us.

It’s fine, the good STALKER developers have been working on the Metro series for a very long time so there is no real loss. Just yet another dead person who will be forgotten in time like us all.
What I like about F&H is that unlike a lot of horror games these days, it really doesn't hold any punches in its horror. It shows you the raw reality of what a world like this would be like, and that's a huge part of what makes it so terrifying.
Orange's first game was also really good. Had a blast going through it for many hours. So happy to see you expanding into other games, WG. Hope to see more.
Because unlike lots of other indie devs that were stuborn and squandered their limelight like the devs of underrail or caves of qud who refused to change frustrations and stupid game design choices. Miro actually listened to the feedback of his fans and made the second game a lot less rng based, and allowed saving without huge hurdles and in general lots of quality of life stuff like no longer being force to get “sprint” etc

So glad that the F&H series is getting the love it deserves, being a game that doesn't hold back on the most serious topics. At the same time being a hardcore rpg survival game where each fight and second counts. Hope it gets even more popular due to Termina's godlike polish in game play and story telling in Characters

Very happy to see you doing more stuff and what a title you started with! I’ve been watching someone play this game on UA-cam but it’s good to see just more of it
I'm a big dark souls fan. So when I heard about this series, I was excited. but after beating each game and getting the ending I wanted, I don't think the comparison is very valid. If there's one thing I have a huge issue with in fear and hunger, its the combat. It was more egregious in the first game, but overall I don't like how combat is so dependent on prior knowledge being the primary method of dealing with foes. In souls, a fundamental understanding of game mechanics can get you through almost any encounter. That's skill. In this game, every other enemy is its own zero sum game. That's luck. Couple this with souls having a very generous bonfire system makes it doubly painful to play fear and hunger for half an hour, picking up each little crate of stuff, clearing out leftovers and experimenting with saves, only to die to a coin toss or instakill and do it over again. Souls doesn't penalize you like fear and hunger does. Souls doesn't teach like fear and hunger does. In dark souls, gaming the system to be OP isn't incentivized or necessary to make the game easier. in fear and hunger, the only safe way to get past each encounter without risking the zero sum puzzle is to get OP weapons and skills, spam them, and hope you overpower the enemy before they get the chance to remove a limb (a key factor of this game unfortunately. If it was executed better, I'd give it a pass but I don't believe it is. With melee enemies its obvious enough, target the bladed weapon arm/arms assuming you can even kill it in a single turn. But for mages, is it the left arm, right arm, or the head that casting the hurting spell that will de-arm you? Who knows? guess you'll learn the 10th time you run through though), give you some obscure and seemingly incurable debuff (like I got a broken bone in the first game like 40 minutes in, and I had that broken bone for the rest of the game. because I didn't know what the hell it did or how to cure it), or just instakill you. and even then, sometimes the game will still instakill you regardless of how strong you get. I can defeat (in part) literal gods, but a spike pit or some guy with a flamethrower can end me immediately? to me, that doesn't feel good regardless of how you spin it. Lastly is the reload system. In Dark Souls, your immortality was tied into the lore. It was meta in a way, giving a reason as to why you could endlessly fight against monsters. In this game, the reload system is never touched upon at all. that's somewhat weird given how extremely heavy this game is on strategizing when you should save or not. Its not an issue in and of itself, but I probably played 25-ish hours on average across each game, but each save time was only about 6-7 hours. So much time is spent just rerunning and retreading paths you've already done and trivialized because you can't save without specific resources or advancing the death timer (not in the first game, so that's actually something I prefer from 1. But thats also not to say death timers are bad. I just don't like how it clashes with gameplay) only to get screwed by lady luck later on and start all over again. How do you solve this? well, it would require an entire rework and re-evaluation of this game's philosophy, which is so baked into the game now that it can't be taken away. All in all I like this game a decent amount. But the main draw to me was its comparison to souls. I always crave that distinct 'elegance' souls has. So I'm always on the lookout for devs that strive to capture that essence in a way. And in all other ways, Fear and hunger meets those needs. But the combat is not comparable. Their only similarity is the seemingly overwhelming odds at the beginning. After that, the two games diverge into completely different paths. and in my opinion, one goes in a good way, and the other bad.
That sawing noise as thar character cut her own limb off was disgusting in the most beautiful way. Fear and Hunger is simply an intriguing and delightful series for masochists! I loved listening to this review, thanks for taking your time to record it :)
This is the second new video on this series I've seen this week. I'm really glad more people are talking about the games. I just got Termina today and am getting my ass kicked hard. The first game is amazing, but the save mechanic has cost me so many hours of hard work and progress. Hopefully I can finish either of these games some day, since I love the writing and art so much. Btw ~ minor spoilers~ there is a time mechanic in the first game too. If you can get to one of the deep floors before an hour on your save file has passed then you can get a really good companion. I haven't gotten there yet, but once you know how to get there you should be able to repeat the process faster next time.
I picked up the first game a week ago from a youtube recommendation, but I'll have to get the second now I'm also really surprised this is your first review, its refreshing to see a creator display their genuine passions.

I've recently been playing and it's feeling strange to me. I understand the idea of it being like Dark Souls but just without any mechanical difficulty. But without that, the game feels very much like a very long game of Simon Says, where I basically trial and error my way into furthering how much of the sequence I can memorize to progress.

OH MY GOD yes the Yume Nikki and OFF mentions yes. I was just telling my partner that the first F&H game reminded me a lot of those early RPGmaker games from the 2000's One of my favorite experiences from that era was just, randomly stumbling accross these games and downloading them to my shitty laptop when I was too poor to afford a console or gaming PC, and getting completely lost in them as they slowly became some of my all time favorites. They lack polish and have some grating game design elements but frankly that's part of their charm for me. Great video. I tried to get into the first game but it was just too damn hard for me. Made no progress. Absolutely loved the ultra-dark tone of it though. Maybe I'll give the second game a try too cos it looks great.
Thanks! And this one really is much easier. It will still leave you with a lot of game overs, but it feels less vindictive and more like you're (eventually) supposed to win.
This is an amazing review, and I adore the game is earning more relevance, but I have one small disagreement; F&H and F&H: Termina are both unfair to the player. Termina it's a slight downgrade in difficulty, but both games are meant to beat you into a bloody pulp, which makes beating the challenges they throw at you more satisfying.
I disagree about 5:10 the alone part, you can get abella and dan in your party almost at the very start, and the boxer and tanaka and olvia can be met soon as well
Yeah both games are very different. Alone the level up mechanics / skill learn mechanics are very different. In FH1 fighting was completely optional, but in FH2 i am heavily motivated to collect as many heads as possible. Also super weapons are .. less fast to reach. In FH1 if one got an empty scroll one could get miasma instantly before any fighting. In FH 2 ... there are guns. The meat grinder is 2H, which not every character can use, the black sword is ... deep. Kassara can be collected in the "intro"... the craftable other weapons are an upgrade, but can be skipped...And the rings are no longer cursed.
The game sounds very interesting tbh. Always have been a big fan of these types of games so I might give it a try. Also I wanted to ask: At 2:53 there are three pictures. The upper one os from Omori, but from which games are the other two? They look rather bizarre but also very interesting.
The lower left is Lily's Well, the lower right is Space Funeral. They are indeed both weird, but it's the good kind of weird where they are saying something interesting with it. Both games are free and well worth your time. I have a review for Lost Cartridge: Cold Read up on the channel. That game's a spiritual successor to Lily's Well by the same dev if you want to give it a look.
Yoooooo, I've been fiddling around with this game and wanted to see others thoughts. Good stuff. ... ... I too would like to kiss Daan. :) ........ Even if it's a severed head--
wait so your telling me fear and hunger termina isn't done yet? like there's more content for the future cause if so count me in i just finished fear and hunger and i have not played a game that gave me a slight uneasy feeling while playing it the whole time during my playthrough. and the whole time i was slowly but surely learning about the world and game around through completely optional books that are most of the time helpful (and fun as they have pictures in them :) )not only to the story itself but the gameplay too examples being knowledge of how to ask the old gods for items that are extremally useful for ones own game. and i have to say its either im an insane masochist who can take punishment and disguise it as pleasure or the game has a fairly decent learning curve for thoese who just started it only took me around 5 battles with the guard to learn what i should prioritize vs what i shouldn't, but there is one flaw to this and that is that i was to pissed scared to even attempt a fight which may save you in the beginning will most definitely fuck you over in the end as you have no choice but to fight and survive, now the only reason i say its good to be bit scared and avoid fights is because it's important to choose your battles and some enemys are to dangrous to deal with without risking an infection or worse and severed limb the former being able to be healed simply with a green herb, and the ladder half having to go threw some ungodly ritual to retain oops i spewed out alot of stuff and dont know how to end it all i have to say is. fear and hunger good
The game is completed, but the dev will be adding things to it still, like new routes and scenes, as well as making the other characters playable and possibly adding new endings and secrets. I can't wait to see how that all pans out!
I spoiled myself a ton by watching and reading a ton about fear and hunger 2, i basically know all the enedings so far and a lot of the mechanics briefly Do you still recommend getting and playing the game?
I initially skipped the Project Moon games because I am not the biggest SCP fan (nothing against it, but as with Slenderman/The Backrooms/etc. there is just way too much stuff out there), but then I actually got a look at Library of Ruina and realized I was probably making a mistake. They're definitely on my list!

I absolutely love unreal world and Darkwood
Based video and based taste in vidya. Glad this showed up in my feed
I really wanted that game on consoles!
Good review
Art the Clown made it even inside the game at 5:16
Great review. Comment for the comment gods.
MORE MORE CONTENT YESSS YEEEEESSS WOOO FEAR AND HUNGER
Impressive. Very nice.
I knew this game was f'ed up to the tee once i heard the track "breath of the moon"
Why does youtube send the notification that this video was uploaded right now
I disagree about 5:10 the alone part, you can get abella and dan in your party almost at the very start, and the boxer and tanaka and olvia can be met soon as well
Welp... I'm gonna meander in... eventual.
Hey! Can you go more in depth on this loved your content over the first game
Thanks for Posting
Also I wanted to ask:
At 2:53 there are three pictures.
I think it might help your channel to do a summary or your opinion on the lore it doesn’t look like a lot of people have tried that for this game yet.
Yoooooo, I've been fiddling around with this game and wanted to see others thoughts. Good stuff.
... ... I too would like to kiss Daan. :)
........ Even if it's a severed head--
Had to flip a coin for a nice comment to write.
Landed tails - again. :c
Nice Video :3
Stalker we trust
agreed :)
wait so your telling me fear and hunger termina isn't done yet? like there's more content for the future cause if so count me in i just finished fear and hunger and i have not played a game that gave me a slight uneasy feeling while playing it the whole time during my playthrough. and the whole time i was slowly but surely learning about the world and game around through completely optional books that are most of the time helpful (and fun as they have pictures in them :) )not only to the story itself but the gameplay too examples being knowledge of how to ask the old gods for items that are extremally useful for ones own game. and i have to say its either im an insane masochist who can take punishment and disguise it as pleasure or the game has a fairly decent learning curve for thoese who just started it only took me around 5 battles with the guard to learn what i should prioritize vs what i shouldn't, but there is one flaw to this and that is that i was to pissed scared to even attempt a fight which may save you in the beginning will most definitely fuck you over in the end as you have no choice but to fight and survive, now the only reason i say its good to be bit scared and avoid fights is because it's important to choose your battles and some enemys are to dangrous to deal with without risking an infection or worse and severed limb the former being able to be healed simply with a green herb, and the ladder half having to go threw some ungodly ritual to retain oops i spewed out alot of stuff and dont know how to end it all i have to say is. fear and hunger good
The game is completed, but the dev will be adding things to it still, like new routes and scenes, as well as making the other characters playable and possibly adding new endings and secrets. I can't wait to see how that all pans out!
awesome
I recommend Darkwood for you
What is the song at the beginning of this video?
I spoiled myself a ton by watching and reading a ton about fear and hunger 2, i basically know all the enedings so far and a lot of the mechanics briefly
Do you still recommend getting and playing the game?
I would love to hear you roleplay some games, you have a neat voice
Thanks! I plan on doing a Cataclysm LP series soon-ish.
2:20 can't believe in 2023 we are censoring the trigger warning too, jesus....
I'd prefer being able to speak frankly, unfortunately UA-cam is going in the other direction.
Suomi mainittu
You should review Lobotomy Corporation and VA-11 Hall-A
I initially skipped the Project Moon games because I am not the biggest SCP fan (nothing against it, but as with Slenderman/The Backrooms/etc. there is just way too much stuff out there), but then I actually got a look at Library of Ruina and realized I was probably making a mistake. They're definitely on my list!
