@JRSueEllen Joan wore the dress in episode 83 or 84 at Fallons engagement party. Whats more fun for me is that i now own the dress and have it on display in my house ;)
My favorite soaps were Knots Landing and Dynasty. I remember when Knots Landing was first announced as a replacement series in Fall 1979 I thought the series was about UFO’s! Go figure! From its premiere in Dec 1979-May 1993 I never missed a single episode. I also never missed Dynasty from its January 1981 premiere to the end of season 7th season in 1987. The final 2 seasons I’d catch from time to time. 1987-1989. I did see the series finale. I have the series on DVD. I wish they’d release seasons 3 of Knots Landing. I watched Dallas from time to time and the first season of Falcon Crest then on occasion. I have season one and two of Falcon Crest.
@@djcooki320 and linda evans dress she wore in dynasty as well. Nolan Miller would dress them all On and off the screen and they were slower to Wear the clothes for awards nights and other events. Apparently they were all given the clothes after the series ended.
I preferred to watch Dynasty over Hill Street Blues. But the writing (writers) started to go downhill following the Moladavian Massacre. Some of the writers didn't even watch Dynasty and they based their wiritngs on scripts from one or two previous episodes (that sometimes had no bearing on the characters or the storylines). Almost every episode that one year had a different writer for each episode.
I loved season 7. season five should have gone into the season 7 storylines of Alexis and Ben bringing Blake down and Alexis owning a newspaper. I love the Moldavian Massacre but only two characters killed and the rest of the cast coming out in full makeup and hair and wardrobe perfect was silly. But what really killed season 6 was the Krystle twin storyline. it dragged on for ages and was completely implausible.
The Moldavian massacre was terrible!!!! I remember thinking it was awful even as a teenager. All Those dead bodies after the cliffhanger seems completely implausible back in the mid-80s. The best writing in Dynasty was always when they centred the action on business dealings: wills, takeovers, mergers and Alexis trying to take over Denver Carrington. When it veered too far away from those storylines outside of Denver it lost its soul. Denver was the main pivot point of Dynasty and it was critical the story stayed there. Once they got too many characters involved and too many implausible plot lines and outrageous antics it lost any "credibility". A soap still has to remain within the bounds of some kind of weird believability even though it can be outlandish. It must remain "real" with its own internal logic - but after the Moldavian massacre episode it lost all believability and went to hell in a designer handbag.
@@stmichl9433 yep totally agree ,Dynasty worked best when the stars of the show numbered just a handful (like 9 or 10) and kept the writing simple . I agree the business scenes were the best for me on the show- more drama/conflict, less cotton candy.
Joan was the reason behind Dynasty's success, pure and simple. Had she not joined the show not only would they not have been winning any awards in 1984 but they wouldn't even have been on the air. Forsythe was by all accounts a consummate gentleman so it wouldn't have hurt him to let Joan and Linda say a few words. Despite his trying to position himself as the star of the show Dynasty didn't have a single main lead like JR in 'Dallas', it had a central trio comprising Blake, Krystle and Alexis. And as Alexis was the show's chief antagonist and arguably its most prolific character, she had as much right to make a beeline for the microphone as John did, "charming female" or not.
@@adamcarrington2818 100 percent correct. Dynasty’s first season without Joan was not very good . She saved the show and they all owed her a debt of gratitude.
