Are you sure the church he came from was a cult? I never heard that before. Wasn't it just him that was the malignant narcissit/psychopath?

I needed to see something like this today! One of the things I struggle the most is guilt ,of having left all my family and friends behind for over 10 years, and also it's a very tricky process to come back to trust in general

I have been looking for something visually to get a better understand of my experience and what I went through in a cult. I also realised watching it that the most difficult parts to get over is the lack of understanding why I experienced this evil and get a more clear picture to work with or through to heal mine and my two children's experience. Thanks for the video👍

I wish we didn't have the "Only weird people get sucked into cults" stigma in our society. It's really a shame. Anyone can be a victim of a cult, and the sooner we're aware of that as a society, and begin to celebrate when people leave these groups, the better for everyone involved. We as a society benefit by having some of our lost members back, and they would benefit by having the outside world welcome them and help them get back on their feet.

This is the vanity of small differences that all religions use to mask the magical and irrational thinking they share with cults

Great video. Apsolutely necessary because cults become so perfid that they involved themselves in every aspect of living, they are in every institution

in my therapy cult group, it was like if you weren't happy with the therapy, it was treated as you needed more therapy to understand what the therapy was about and to get rid of the problems you had with the therapy so that you could participate in it

Fantastic video. Much better than some of the modern ones I've seen on the subject, actually. It deserves more views, as it offers better than average insight into this phenomenon.

When was this filmed? Great job representing so many different types of cults - bible based, therapy... So many documentaries focus on the cult or leader and I understand that because it's important to warn others but this is really refreshing to focus on the victims and their recovery.

I was subjected to every one of these techniques and for a while went along with them, then I stared to question what I was involved in. In cults this is a no no. One day the cult leader and a bunch of followers ganged up on me with yelling and screaming to force compliance with their values. It was the final straw. I went to the phone and called the police.
This was the beginning of my freedom. As I saw the leader cower in front of the officers I realized he had no power or authority at all. From this incident I was suddenly able to see freedom. Within weeks I was gone and physically free.
This did not stop them completely. It took several more times summoning police as they continued to try surprise visits to my new home, hoping to invade quickly enough to prevent me from calling help. They then tried different approaches, sometimes helpful, sometimes forceful, and often just to smile and give me something, anything just to find a way back into my life.
In the end 40 years later I still have portions of my mind that are not totally free.
Stay away, do not get involved, enjoy your kids and grand-kids and no matter what, " never let anything come out of you that could hurt them". I was an ideal candidate as I was young, and a homestead farm kid without any real life's experience outside of my local farming community, and had come from a bad background leaving me with no moral rudder. I also was naive about life.
If this is you then you, then to them you are ideal. Remember that.
PS. I do not know if you still have this channel active but if you do thank you for a very to the point truthful video.

This happened to me also. I was young, naive and didn't have any real direction after I got out of high school. Thanks for sharing, good advice!

First, it starts out as something that feels really good...then it gradually morphs to CONTROL...and then to something more dangerous.
Prevention: SIT DOWN IN YOUR HOUSE, OPEN YOUR BIBLE, and SEEK GOD FOR YOURSELF!
Never abdicate these duties to someone else!

Religion is the gateway drug to cults. If you are addicted to magical thinking you'll find yourself back in some flavour of cult/religion no matter how hard you run

Grand Rapids Home for Veterans has turned into a cult. 400 people that have no control over their fate. No criticism tolerated. Everyone is afraid to talk about the elephant in the room.

    Is it FEAR?

In the Christian religion if the cult leader does not repent and wholeheartedly feel remorseful for the cruelness he has subjected the followers to, because of his/her lies and deception he/her (The cult leader) will be judged very harshly!
