- This slightly bonkers race is full of unusual saloon cars from the 1950s all racing together. From the massive Cadillac Coupe and Jaguar MkVII to the tiny little Austin A35 and Nash Metropoliton it all look amazing together on track at Goodwood in the Sopwith Cup at the 79th Goodwood Members' Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport.

I'm impressed. It seems Rowan Atkinson is just a genius actor and comedic sensation. He's a pretty good race-car driver too! Who would have thought it?
He's bean at it for years.
@@theothertonydutch Well, I was told he owns a pretty impressive car collection, and I guess that would explain why.
@@williambenstead1925he's been racing for quite a while. In the early runnings of the Revival, he used to share that Jaguar with Sir Stirling Moss...
Rowan Atkinso also made a fantastic time on the old Top Gear challenge in the reasonably priced car!
Yes mr bean great driver
"Car with its own postcode" 😂 😂 😂
Such a joy to see it there 😃😃😃
Another 30 secs on the end could have given the results and Rowan's podium. Very mean of you!
it's about the "cars"....not the "stars"....:-)
@@stratman9449 For Goodwood, the combination of cars and stars has always been important. It a big part of why visitors pay LOTS of money to attend. You can also mingle with said stars in the paddocks and elsewhere at no extra cost. You can become part of the scene. It's almost a unique atmosphere.
@@stratman9449 tell that to the editor of the title Mr c bait :)
@@stratman9449 The video title suggests otherwise.
@@stratman9449 Another 30 secs on the end could have given the results and Jaguar's podium. Very mean of you!
Oh come on, we don't get to see Mr. Atkinson take a trophy?
Don't be silly with a title like that from editor Mr C.baits
They're given in the evening at a private event. Have you been to goodwood?
Ya mean "Mr. Bean"?
I couldn't believe my eyes. On the grid was a Standard Vanguard Six, a car so rare now as to be unknown by even British car fans. I still can't believe what I just witnessed, a grid of cars one never sees racing but happy to accept the bliss.
and a Nash Metropolitan dicing with a Cadillac.
@@flyingmerkel6 Memories, Beep Beep by the Playmates 1958, Yea it was a Rambler, but still.
@@flyingmerkel6 the "Yank Tank" the car with its own postal code - great slang for that one
Did you notice the Type One Vanguard (hump back) at the rear of the field in the opening lap? it would interesting to know what modifications are allowed in this class, ignoring the Jaguars, the most of the British cars were docile family cars that look comically out of place on a race track!
@@michaelhalsall5684 No but what a brave man! The cars look quite unmodified. The field is beyond amazing.
The variety of cars here is unreal. Fantastic to watch, and much more entertaining than watching actual race cars.
The cars are racing, thus race cars... No handicaps, no computers, etc... race cars, race drivers...
How do you define "actual race cars"?
@@trueaussie9230 I was thinking on formula 1 etc cars.
@@calbackk
You do understand that the cars in this video are 'Historic' race cars, built and tuned for track racing and to a higher standard and achieving better times than those racing in their era?!
They're not just 'some old banger'.taken on the track for a laugh.
Where does Jack Brabham's 1959 Formula One winner fit in your definition?
What falls within your all encompassing "Formula 1 etc cars" category?
Do you know the meaning of the word / phrase 'etcetera' / 'et cetera' ('etc')?!
What race cars are 'similar to' 'Formula 1 cars'?!
@@trueaussie9230 , You seem to bent on quarrelling with me. First Aussie I had that experience with, and I have visited several times.
Yes I do know all the things you are pointing out. A real race car to me is a car that is both designed and built for racing only, and I don’t mind if you don’t agree. Of course there are many road cars used for racing which are completely rebuilt for that purpose. These are of course also race cars, but not in the true sense that I mentioned. NB this is my opinion. Greetings from Sweden
WOW! Something I never did in my Metropolitan, lifting a front tire in a turn!
Madness!😉👍
1:19 that is the most graceful looking spin i have ever seen
Slow motion in real time.
It's a Jag, of course it's graceful!
Grace. Pace. Space.
The Jaguar trademarks!
Wild? I was absolutely livid!
Great to see a Vanguard, full stop, let alone win a race.
We saved one in New Zealand..subtle race car look might be achieved...
@@fotorabia Good to hear there is a survivor. I have many memories of my parent's car back in the 60's, in the 4 cylinder version , going at a whopping 80kph. LOL
my dad 5 vanguards while we were growing up in Melbourne in the 70s .the last one a 62 wagon he sold for half a dozen bottles of Melbourne bitter
@@michaeledwards8058 NOOOOOOOOO !!
@@richard63 yeah not even a dozen tallies. 62 6 cylinder wagon with twin carbies. I still remember the rear tailgate folding down with tyre changing tools inside the tailgate . and the indicator switch on the steering wheel
My father had a Vanguard 6 when I was a kid, I never would have imagined it as a race winning car
I think most people buying an austin A30 wouldn't have believed it either...
@@TheChill001 Ever heard of Peter Brock his 179 A30 was the roughest thing on the track but it was winning.
The promoter of Oran Park paid for Peter to get it tidied up and painted.
give it all the beans
What a wonderful selection of cars! That's why I love classic saloon car racing: Racing in class with whatever you fancy.
This is an absolute incredible race! Will the full version be uploaded at any point?
He gave it full beans
No longer a has Bean.
I'm disappointed that Rowan Atkinson wasn't driving a yellow Mini with a black bonnet.
is it even the same rowan atkinson?
@@jebise1126
No.
@@jebise1126 It is
@@jebise1126 yes
@@jebise1126 The famous actor is known for loving cars, so the assumption is that it is
Gooo Doc !!!! Ruuunn ruunnn!!
Was lucky enough to be there......great drive from rowan!
The Vanguard is an inspired choice of racer. So much potential in that six.
I had one in my Triumph 2000 :-)
Owned a Vanguard six decades ago. I know of only one other in captivity.
As an American, “Yank tank” was beautiful.
I must admit it did look good .
Great fun to watch, such a crazy variety of vehicles. Love the Yank tank!
with it's own "postcode".....:-)
The Austin Metropolitan wasn't designed as a small American-looking car to fit on British roads. It was an American - looking small car for U.S. customers. (Nash Metropolitan) Just saying.
yep....back in the days when britain was still making things.....:-)
@@stratman9449 we still make things.
Just not GOOD things.
@@CPS2 How dare you say that about Land Rover.
@Malcolm Nicholls ...we don't make Land Rovers.
@@Zappa943 Dough!
Yank Tank. I love it.
Thats my bean right there
Now if only that was in Mr Bean's Mini :)
I would love to see a Bristol 405 saloon in this race.
Mmmmm . The Pinnacle of British Motor Racing . 😆😅🙃😂. Love it .
Mr Bean crackin' It ! What an unstoppable chap
1:56 is all you gave us? Criminal.
The Vanguard what a brilliant Car 🇬🇧
Great fun!
Bean rules! Happy Easter Mr. A.
"THROUGH DOES MR BEAN!"
I never rated the Standard Vanguard 6 as a sports saloon....
"Yank-Tank" I ♥ it 😛
This video is awesome when played at double speed
😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙃.
I saw a phase l Vanguard in the field too.
NEED MORE BIG & LOUD!!
Nice to see some exciting racing. F1 is so dull these days.
This is 1950's and 1960's BTCC all over again.
Vanguard six, back in yhe 50s early 60s my neighbours bought a new Vanguard everytime a model was released didn't think I'd ever see one again?
Here in the USA, I observed that a tiny Prius was faster than all the large autos. Whenever you see a pack of autos on an expressway, what car is in front? The tiny Toyota Prius!
then you woke up from your dream. the Prius was in front because it wouldnt yield to faster traffic
@@carl_h - Yes, that was the idea of the joke.
lightweight beats heavy brawn....again....but Rowans Jag does look good.....:-)
A Vanguard in a race? I learned to drive in the 4-cylinder (Ferguson tractor engine) version, three on the tree and cornered like a tea clipper in a gale. Great ground clearance, though, you could work on the exhaust without jacking it up!
I can relate to that.
I had my first lesson in one.
A very interesting experience.
Got my licence and bought a 1956 272V8 Ford. 😉😊
Congratulations from Thailand Mr Bean. Is that the alloy Mk7?
The car with its own postal code😂🤣
"Mr. Atkinson, how do you come so fast?" "More throttle, less brakes...."
The mini is his supercar
I'm surprised Rowan Atkinson wasn't driving a 1977 lime green British Leyland Mini 1000 with a black bonnet!
Could've atleast shown the podium celebrations.
I would be terrified of ruining such beautiful cars.
What car is the blue and white 56 that Rowan was battling with?
@tecdessus cheers thanks for that
are they around much any more?
are they super rare?
or not to bad?
@tecdessus ok thanks
i wonder why the US would want them seems to small for their taste.
@tecdessus nice
Did Rowan bump any Reliants off the road?
What modifications are allowed in this type of racing, I presume a roll cage and fire extinguisher would be fitted, but how far from original specification can they be modified?
A LONG way
I do own a Mk VIIM, i cannot believe how it can be driven....
First ever podium???
It's touching to see Ukraine flags. Thank you for your huge support!
There's also a James Colburn [ american actor, though not actually him ]
I was expecting to see The real Mr Bean....😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂
Title, Roman Atkinson’s first podium. Do we get to see him on the podium? Of course not.
I didn't even know what number car he was driving.
Meanwhile there is a man with a sky blue Robin Reliant shaking his his fist in anger as he was due to be competing in a race but someone rammed him off the road a mile shy of the racetrack in a farcical if slapstick manner
Rowan Atkinson should be racing a mini, a green mini.
What if he use his own mini cooper
MR BEANN
Mr. Bean?
Is anyone else disappointed Rowan was not driving a mini?
A Standard Vanguard winning a race at Goodwood and a Nash Metropolitan comming second l wonder if the Americans saw this races because what happened to the Cadillac
Why title it, 'Rowan Atinson' first podium and then not show it??
🤔🤔
And the full race is posted where?? *said whilst wearing a Kentucky derby hat.*
sad to see such rare cars crashing
So didn't even show us him getting the podium but click baited his name
Forza Horizon 4 with HQ 4K graphic mod. ^^
Is it the Mr Bean guy ?
Too much asking hamiton to drive a vinatage during his f1
Not saying it’s happening here, but what a great idea for click-bait. Find proficient amateurs in their field whose names match celebrities. Is there an amateur pole-vaulter out there named Scarlett Johannson? An apprentice jockey named Ed Sheeran?
Typical Goodwood: promote a race for 1950s car but allow a 1960s car to win!
that was ... silly.
Yank tank xD
Howcome he isn't driving on the top of his car in a chair?
Rowan too damn high and mighty for a Mini these days? So disappointed in chemistry graduates. And what about the podium shot - where is it - truly dull editing.
