Amazing performance by Rowan Atkinson! It's a shame he's not had a chance to do many serious roles. He's done so well in his recent Maigret work too :)
It's very strange that there has been little interest in this video over the years and just recently there has been a flurry of interest. Presumably as a result of this pop up.
Thanks so much for sharing this. I thoroughly enjoyed it on TV at the time and in recent years have tried to find a DVD but it has been out of production for a very long time so this is wonderful.
The Bently drivers group took vintage Bentleys of Tim (Boy) Berkin time to the Lotus factory and test track in Norfolk for a promotion photoshoot. They were told to follow the new (at the time) Racing Saloon as they would not be able to keep up. After a short time, the old Blowers were lapping the New Flash Lotus saloon
In those days Chaps and Chapets used to race high-performance road cars to various country mansions for a Bottle of Vintage Champagne. My Grandfather was a Metropolitan police sergeant tasked to stop them. Happy to say he failed every time.
I ha ve never seen this before. Excellent all 'round and particularly Rowan Atkinson. My mother went to Brooklands College in the 1950s...and I took a spin in an old car around what's left of the Brooklands track in 1992.
fun fact Micky Burn who is doing the voice-over had an amazing life in WW2 and after too highly recommend find out about him plus the man who did the dramatisation was involved with James Hunt
Had to get used to see a serious Rowan Atkinson. Was waiting for a gag in the beginning, but got to appreciate Rowan in a serious roll and the film. Fun fact: W.O Bentley was portrayed by Gavin Richards, capitano Bertorelli in ‘Allo, Allo’. Burn was portrayed by Crispin Bonham Carter, third cousin to Helen Bonham Carter.
What a wonderful connection! He was an extraordinary man, a very clever engineer and an outstanding driver who crammed quite a lot into his very short life. Thank you for sharing Nancy, all the best :)
Blackadder is a racing driver - perhaps he was fed up with Baldrick and Lord Percy. He must have had a cunning plan how to earn money! Especially as Edward Symington was his father.
People only perceive Atkinson as a clown because he played one for so long so well. If he had stuck to dramatic roles no matter what many of his less comedic roles would have gone over very differently. Now his face is associated with a clowns by majority of the people on this earth. That is his legacy and burden.
May be so, but it's his rubbery face and facial expressions that made him famous. I agree he can and should play serious roles. However, I think that would have been a longer and more difficult road to stardom.
@@anthonywbelcher Oh yes playing the alternative reality game is very much a losing proposition. His entire career was very much lightning in the bottle, his talent just being a huge lightning rod in a flat field.

Blackadder!?
What year was this? I never knew about it and I’m a huge RA fan since Not the 9 O’clock news!
@mockbattles And you know about blackadder? Probably the best comedy after Falty Towers
Bean is terrific, just terrific!
Watching this by a welcome, random pop-up. Never even heard of Birkin or that Rowan A had made this superb series. Thanks!

You should read the book! My grandad had it from back when it was published, I lapped it up as a kid. It's great also bizzare!
I love it when odd-ball stuff pops up on UA-cam! This is great!
@@grant6173 so that's why there has recently been a lot of activity with this video that I posted all those years ago.
@@anthonywbelcher Good job, anyway 👍.

Thanks so much for posting. Remember watching this when it originally aired and haven’t ever seen it repeated
Which year?
Great stuff ... thanks for uploading!
Very impressed with the single-take monologue scene with the reporter at the beginning.
Great film. I recall watching it on TV. I later visited Brooklands many times
Thank you I haven't been to Brooklands but it's on my list of places to visit
Mayfair to Norfolk in a hour? Bloody 'ell thats going some. Takes me an hour to get to the A11 junction these days. Remarkable.
Well he was driving a Bentley.
These days is the problem

“Can you not see the excitement in lace!?” asked his father. 😂
I allways found the contents of lace to be far more exciting..
Impressive piece
Just finished his book , Full Throttle! An amazing read .
Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the book too.
Did they end up leaving in the pet about Audrey leaving him?
"The Bentley Boys"!
✌️🤠💥🌟🌀👍
Rowan is an avid motor racing fan and competed too and collects vintage racing cars.
By Jove! I may have gotten a feeling in one of my eyes when he scoffed so properly at his own loss! Carry on, old chap!
Pip,pip old boy!

All in all a great little film.
‘Allo ‘Allo to signify the francophonic silencing or vocal omission of the H. Very interesting facts!
honing the johnny english character out. good show.
Mr bean in a love scene, rhymes nicely 😂
It’s Bingley from Pride and Prejudice.
3:38 Norfolk certainly does have A. Partridge!
Why do not put the real name of a TV movie? Full Throttle (1995). I didn't know until today that this movie existed! So great.
Because the "other" 🙄 riff raff & ©️ organisation will remove it and spoil the peice for everyone else.
Great thanks to the uploader for doing this for us.
He was my grandpas grandpa
Hey, that's interesting. So he was your Great Great Grandfather. From what you know of him did this video with Rowan Atkinson portray him well?
I never met him he had already died when I born but yes I think he did portray him well
@@Nancy_56xx that's good thank you. He seems quite a character in the film. I love it.

someone show this to Jeremy Clarkson i bet he will enjoy Rowan and the Bentleys
I do so like rowan atkinson, so refreshingly *British* .
Is this "Gussie" Fink-Nottle (Richard Braine) as the passenger in the breakfast-drive scene?
No it's Micky Burn, look him up on Wikipedia. He's an interesting character.
Blackadder is a racing driver - perhaps he was fed up with Baldrick and Lord Percy. He must have had a cunning plan how to earn money! Especially as Edward Symington was his father.
A plan so cunning that even Baldrick couldn't plan it! Unless he drove a turnip!
Harry Enfield doing the commentary at beginning right?
Thank you it's one of my favourite films sorry the quality is not brilliant but it was off a very old video
Quality not bad at all. Are there any (bootleg) DVDs doing the rounds? Would love that as a gift for a friend.

No one plays suave as Rowan Atkinson :D
Rowan should have done a lot more 'straight ' acting, a talent untapped?
