    Just to add on the coolant and bleed procedure. Only use distilled water (not tap water) with the coolant mix. And also set the heater to hot when bleeding. Otherwise, a nice helpful video. And yes, the Stag does dound amazing. Stick the tubular manifolds on too and it gets even better.

    ▪️You _have_ to fit the correct radiator fluid as the engine has a mix of iron and aluminium. Do not fit cheap stuff.
    ▪️The metal where the hoses push onto _always_ needs cleaning.
    ▪️Radiator should _always_ be a larger core radiator on Stags.
    ▪️Fit an electric cooling fan.
    ▪️While radiator is out, flush the cooling system. Many had casting sand left inside.

    Watching this right now as a tv rerun. I notice the front number plate is a white one whereas the rear plate is the older style black one. A bit of an odd combination. Surely either have white front plate and yellow rear or both classic black?

    Something many Stag owners find rather strange is the choice to fit an uprated radiator to a car that does not seem to have cooling issues. Fine if the car overheated but this example did not do that. No need to fix that which is not broken.

      They are *famous* for cooling problems. An expansion tank fitted higher than the engine is _essential._ If the engine does overheat there is the possibility that the water pump, which is fitted at the highest point, will run dry leading an expensive pump failure and maybe engine seizure (very bad design fault). No heating engineer would ever install a pump on a heating system at the highest point - basic stuff.

    • @triumphstagdriver
      @triumphstagdriver 2 роки тому +2

      @@johnburns4017 The pump is not at the highest point in the system. Please stop spreading such pub myths. If you go out and have a good look at your Stag cooling system you will find the pump is a good 10cm below the thermostat housing, which is at equal height if not a tad lower than the radiator filler point. When compared to contemporary designs, the pump is no higher or lower than others.

      To make it easier for you, the *pump is far too high.* No heating engineer would ever install a pump on a heating system at or near the highest point. Heating engineers when they look inside engine bays cringe. Full of rubber pipes with jubilee clips and water that is running near or above 100C!! Done on the cheap, by people who do not know too much about heat/cooling. Would you put rubber hoses and hose clips in your house plumbing? Not in a million years.
      The Triumph Stag had notorious cooling problems for a number of reasons - design was one, the prime culprit. The heater return pipe running into one bank of the V8 - uh! Those who say _keep it as stock nothing wrong with it,_ not saying you are one of them, talk tripe.
      Search on U tube _Triumph Stag & Stag Owners Club_ - revealing. One of the engine development engineers highlights the cooling problems.

    Some folks say that you should not use those worm-gear (jubilee) clamps. Most manufacturers use plain spring clamps as those will always apply clamping pressure even when the hose compresses a bit.

      @@paulhunter123 In an ideal world, and back in the day, I'd have the Stag engine but redesigned such that it didn't have its intrinsic faults. They should have set their egos aside and used that old Buick engine that when on to serve so well in the following years, Rover, TVR and Morgan.

    • @triumphstagdriver
      @triumphstagdriver 2 роки тому

      @@VonCoco1944 If you had done a bit of research you would have found that it was simply not possible for Triumph to use the Rover/Buick engine for several reasons. The engine itself does not have bad design issues but rather suffers from incorrect maintenance, low quality control and low quality parts. The latter was due to company bean counters ending up have more say than the engineers.
