Oh for a time when a head would only take a week, I took mine into a shop in Vancouver last October and got it back in May! Much the same, new valve seats, replaced the valves, double springs and sleeves and stem seals.

I would do an oil change cos the water from removing the head will go I to the oil sump

all good but this was really about maintenance of what you have rather than improving on it as you would have with say freer air cleaners and exhaust...

Should have checked air mixture screws on carbs first, as the plugs where black and running far too rich.
