Years ago I was depressed when I kept seeing alkaline diet for bone health because of my digestive problems. I ate little meat & a lot of fruits & veg my entire adult life until I got IBS. When I first saw that animal proteins are so important I was very relieved! (And I no longer have IBS.) Thanks for your assessment Dr Doug
How do oxalates come in to play? Some foods are higher than others and it’s my understanding that high oxalate consumption will block calcium absorption to your bones.
Great question! Checkout our health span nation if you have not yet, you get exclusive access to me and a community of people pursuing health and longevity. These are things that we discuss in there and it allows us to go into detail rather than doing short chats through this platform. You can find more information here --> www.optimalhumanhealth.com/hsn
My BMD increased by 30% in my left femoral neck and 20% in the lumbar spine, compared to one year ago. My t scores are still low,: -2.5 and -1.9 respectively, and my rookie GP wants me to go on the bone drugs. My only changes I've made are introducing algae cal and reducing the omeprazole to twice per week. I broke both femurs when I was much younger , but I healed up just fine. Don't mess with my bone turnover!
I’m glad to hear that you’ve decreased the dosing frequency of omeprazole. This is one teaching point that is very difficult to address with my patients who continue to take PPIs despite the negative impact these meds have on bone health.
Hi! Checkout the videos on my channel called "Proven Ways to SLOW Bone Loss | CTX Research" and "Proven Ways to Increase Bone Building | Increase P1NP"
Dr Doug, can you create a video about hypothyroidism and the effects of levothyroxine and T3 therapy on bone health? (Males and females of all the age groups). I think there is a lack of public awarness on the topic, and the detrimental effect on the bones is sometimes blamed only on overdosing. Also a video about the effect on bone of different contraceptive methods including pills, hormonal IUDs etc. can be very helpful. I think that in general there is very little awarness and research on this topic in the premenopausal age group and some women end up osteoporotic even before reaching menopause...

I find it interesting that on my mostly beef and eggs diet, recently I’ve been craving Portobello mushrooms. I was not eating any other vegetables. I’ll be getting my repeat labs next month. This should be interesting.
Your video might have interesting and helpful , but kind of boring ! Would you try to make it more condensed , getting right to the points instead of so heavy in statistic !
I disagree with your comment. I watch Dr Doug because he does such deep analysis of research and statistics. This allows me to understand the research outcomes presented, and draw my own conclusions about how to manage my own health choices. Thanks for this Dr Doug.
Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. We receive a good amount of comments that the content is too fast paced and not enough detail. I will try to meet in the middle as best as I can :)
INTERESTING So, Not enough Protein, too many carbs in this Study! Quite a few high Oxalates in this group.. I eat, organic Gluten free Oats.. (soaked overnight) my only Grain.! Great video.. Tnx
Thanks. I can't fault your analysis, and am surprised they arrived at the conclusion they put forth.
Thank you for sharing
