  • Today, I broke down my faceting process into 20 steps to show you the creation of my newest gem…
A double sided, multicolor, self mined sapphire from Propst Farm, North Carolina! 💗
This piece is truly one of a kind, and I’m so exited to share a much closer look into the process with you all.
While I’m not quite equipped to teach faceting yet, I hope this video provided a little something useful for everyone. Whether it was a new trick to try out or just a bit of entertainment during a lunch break, I hope this video brought you a bit of positivity!
If you’d like to see what went into mining this gem and lots more like it, check out all the Propst Farm videos in the playlist below. 👇🏻

Thank you so much!! I didn’t see any of that blue before I started cutting, and it was wild to watch it appear on almost every facet on that side :)

Newbie question - sorry. Why change cutting disc direction after cutting the girdle?

No worries at all!! It’s something about the way the wheel pulls the stone. Cutting the girdle clockwise and the angled facets (pavilion/crown) counterclockwise is usually safest for the stone. I’m not sure how exactly to explain it, but cutting the girdle the other way can make it a lots easier for the stone to fall off.

I appreciate that so much!! Your support and kind words mean the world. One day I’ll have to plan some kind of group dig to rockhound with a few other locals 😊
