Good luck Zach, I couldn't think of a more deserving person to have this car than you!
Second that🤟
@@Azspeedin Third - motion carried....
Zachary might finish some cars.
Should of got him a better beetle this one is crap
When you get that engine from J&J make sure you update that timing tensioner, replace the guides and clean the intake valves.
Yep. This.
Classic example of the chain (tensioner) that went bad. Hurts to see it
@@ZanicL3 i had a silver bettle same problem engine jumped timing my insurance toteled it due to hail damage
@@timmy030506 lucky you
rear main seal upgrade too
So glad we could be a part of this...looking forward to the rebuild!
I love how everyone uses the clip of the land rover bumper getting ripped off when promoting Sam's channel hahaha
@Samcrac is a good guy and generous with helping folks. Take a cue from him and pay-it-forward when you hit it big... Share the wealth with other up and comers. Good luck!
For me new style bumper looks a lot better
personally i like the older one because the line flows thru the whole thing. but everyone has their own opinion!😃😃😃
@@maksmith4638 agreed but the newer style looks more aggressive
@@spenceradams2908 true, but that is why on my opinion is better old style. The whole car dont have aggressive lines, so it doesnt match
Old style for me.
I've been following Sam for a few years now and I don't think most people understand how generous he is. Glad he made a memorable Christmas for you in such a disastrous year. I just started following you from Sam's link and I'm excited to watch the progress on the VW.
Those 2.0 and their notoriously bad timing chain tensioners. Gotta love em! That’s why I joined the class action suit against vw and won my $1500 back.
Watched Sam's video earlier now seeing yours, this is going to be an awesome project. As far as the bumper, the old and new style both look good to me. As far as the interior and other things, you might want to think about a donor car, it might be cheaper vs. buying all the parts you want/need. And finally, I like those wheels, maybe they could be restored?
J and j had the red bettle which you got the engine from. They had everything you needed. Wheels interior etc.
It actually looks like the donor is in better shape than this one
I just posted this, I guess I was a bit late. 😅
I’ve got the previous model TDI on 17” rims, full leather, air on and heated seats 💺 I love it. 👍🏻
Make SURE timing chain tensioner is latest version on new engine before installing it.
Please make sure the chain and the tensioners are new when the engine goes in.
You're such a humble guy Zack. Can't wait to see you work your magic on the Beetle. Have a great Christmas fella.
Keep with the old style bumper, it looks more like the Porsche. Sam is such a good dude. Nice seeing bros showing love to other bros! You deserve it Zach...just don't turn this one into a jet ski! ;^P
Get some new seat "skins" you can buy factory but there are plenty of aftermarket out there too, hog rings and hog ring pliers. It's easy and what a transformation it makes vs a cover.
Great to see you getting a hand up from Sam, you are a great mechanic and you deserve all the help he can offer you.
Like the new project. Sure you will do an outstanding job bringing back the Beetle. Nice of Samcrac to buy it fro you😀😀
Sweet ride! Looking forward to watching you ultimately rebuild it!
Before you put your new motor in, do timing and tensioner. Downpipe and mild tune will do after that! Toss in a blow off adapter for an extra little bit of turbo noise. Cheers!
That bug looks like it was abused a little bit LOL.
It is a theft recovery, so........
I can’t imagine what the human being is like that owned that car. Horrifying.
As far as performance upgrades, a 3” downpipe and a tune will really up the fun factor without breaking the bank. Good luck!!
Add an ko4 on it while your at it?
A stage 2 (custom tune) with an intake and catless downpipe got me 292 hp and 424nm of torque.
The car probably had the chain (tensioner) go bad. They're known to do that if you don't repair it as a precaution maybe worth to do it on the new engine before you put it in?
Goodluck with the build! 👍👍
Sick, super stoked to watch these go down. Been watching Sam forever so this is awesome to see
Put a Golf GTI engine in. Also should be able to fit an interior from a golf or Audi A3. So some nice leather seats should be easy to find. It’s a great platform
new style bumper for sure, go for a more efficient turbo and a remap of the ecu, leather interior would be nice too, best of luck with it,looking forward to the rebuild vids alredy
Congrats on the freebie!
Zach is popping off on YT now. Glad to see it.👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome! Been waiting for VW-content for a long time! 😊
Great gift for someone who helps out so much.
Engine mods: Downpipe, intake, GFB DV+ (diverter valve), r8 coil pack/spark plugs, stage 2 tune.
This channel deserves more love
Came here from Samcrac vid. Subscribed and looking forward to the rebuild.
Newer style bumper with OEM LED headlights from higher models would look really good.
Hey Zack! The newer style bumper looks much more refined.
Man that's one rough beetle. Not a whole lot left of it. But if anyone can make it nice, I'm sure you're the guy for the job.
Can’t wait to see it complete are you doing the newer style bumper and xenon headlights
Beetle are the best :)
Last year I was driving a Fender edition (denim blue). I loved it, great car congrat's
Check out integrated engineering, they have some great bolt on's for VW's. Good luck.
Always a good time! Keep up the good work
He does a good job 👏🏼
Great gift! Bumper wise, I would go to the newer style! Good luck, and I'm looking forward to see your amazing accomplishment!
Old bumper, much cleaner look, congrats on your well deserved good fortune, all signs point to you being a great guy and and a good friend to Sam.
So happy to see yours and Sam's vids in my sub boxes today. This should be amazing
I had the unitronic stage 1 plus tune on my 2015 gti same engine as your beetle, it woke up the engine and made it much more enjoyable
A 2015 gti doesn't have this engine. Well not exactly the same 2.0tsi engine atleast. This engine was in the mk6 GTI. Not a mk7 GTI
Merry Christmas! Here’s a headache! Ill be watching you fix it and I’ll sire it will be awesome..
Should be a fun project. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos on the Beetle. One thing, you misspelled 'wrecking' at 3:13. 😂 "JandJautowreaking"
J&J is “wreaking” havoc on several channels right now. Great guys 👍💯
Do the controls on the steering wheel. I really want to do it on my car but would love to see you tackle it first haha. Thanks
Did you see the Car Wizard's turbo Beetle? It had quite a few mods on it. Good luck on it and I'm looking forward to this Ultimate Rebuild!
^ This.
Ah, so you're going to do the VW Harlequin paint scheme? Awesome:)
looking forward to watching this! 👌🏼👍🏼
New bumper or fender 100% . The new one looks brilliant. 🌟👍🎥
New style bumper. Has a Porsche look to it.
I had a 1963 Bette, 6v electrics. I upgraded it to a 2.2l turbo it pulled wheelies really easy.. If I made 1 mistake it was selling it. Nice to see you getting some help and recognition. 👍👍🎅
Hey Zack , you got my in to the beetle movement!!
zach you sound so happy it's really cute
Go with a bigger turbo... not massive just next step up and tune it high flow cat and exhaust... enjoy
Congrats! Best of 🤞🤞Luck working on this, and definitely newer style bumper. 🙂👌👌
Get rid of that emblem on the front
Samcracc is the man! Did his step mom buy it ??
You seem to have a lot of skills and time. Can you give us some history on you and location?
Dang, that seems like a LOT of work but, it inspires me to work on my cars which in comparison need a great deal less work but, I don't possess your talent and skill. By the way, I like the old style grill better. I'll watching the progress on this VW with great interest.
Those are diamond cut wheels, get them resurfaced, it will look OEM..:)
Well you told us why it wouldn't run ...spolier alert Blown motor🤣🤣🤣
Don't sell yourself short having Sam as your mentor. You are 100x the UA-camr he is, you are likeable, you are talented, you do your own work and you actually finish builds. Don't follow his example, forge your own path you are one of my favorites youtubers and I can't wait to see you grow and succeed.
You can buy VCDS(VagComDiagnosticSystem) on VWVortex for relatively cheap, or brand new directly through Ross-Tech.
I bought the Enthusiast Pack for my MK4TDI and MK7.5Alltrack and LOVE IT!
Following because i want to do the same, but with a TDI beetle, 6 speed.
Nice to see a 12up bug on UA-cam! Ive owned 4x 12ups to date (3x were 2.0TSI's), and 11x 98-11 bugs (as well as loads of Aircooleds).
If it was a UK car it would be a Turbo Silver, not sure if its the same spec level in the US.
Make sure you check your new engine has the revised timing chain tensioner fitted as thats what kills these (and probably failed on the original engine), I think there was a Class Action Lawsuit in the US for it. Look up the Humble Mechanic on UA-cam, he's talked extensively about it.
And I prefer the later style bumper.
Definitely go with the newer style bumper. Gives it a more modern look. Also, since you have to replace at least one headlight, consider upgrading to Xenons, or projector replicas. De led DRLs really suit the Beetle and adds some extra class to your car. In the interior, I think you could pretty easily swap the heating unit in the console/dash for a full climate control unit. And yes, add some steering wheel buttons! Might as well go with a double din aftermarket stereo system. Android auto / apple car play are absolutely worth it! That said, I'm really looking forward to this build! If you haven't decided on the paint color yet, I'd recommend one of VAG's Nardo-ish greys. Specifically Porsche's Sport Classic Grey or Audi's LY7C/T3.
Awesome gift! I would try keep it as original as possible. There are mag repair places that will fix those four rims back to ne as long as they are not buckled. APR or other chip can give you much more power. Colour is good, it’s a good combo with silver mirror covers. New bumper, bi-xenon lights swop out I had these in my 2014 and they look good with the front fog lights. Euro style bumper was always better looking than USA equivalents. Replace the drivers chair cover, replace headliner. Place three cluster gauge showing boost etc on dash. Upgrade radio. Not sure if the steering controllers can be retrofitted? Some nice floor mats from VW really make that Florida sand stay out the carpeting. Excited for you and definitely following this build! If you are ever further south in Florida, you are welcome to come see my classic beetles.
Just subbed 👍 watched you on Sam’s channel the other day, look forward to seeing the beetle rebuild
I'm really happy for you, Zach! You could look into putting a Golf GTi interior parts, with better and more supportive seats. That would make for a more "custom" Beetle, while still looking factory. Mod wise, sky's the limit on that engine. Just research what you want and use reputable brands.
Congrats! I have a friend up in TN that has a bumper that would fit (it's red). Be sure to put a timing chain tensioner on the new motor before you stuff it in just for piece of mind. Pay close attention to the Rear main, the PCV, and the water pump as they are common failure points. Once it's on the road, be sure to fix any oil leaks as they happen, as that's what generally causes the water pump to fail, and keep an eye on the PCV, as that what's causes the crankcase pressure to make the RMS fold. As far as performance, I could do a downpipe (CTS makes a good one, I've had good luck with ebay ones too) and a tune--I would pick any reputable tuner that has local support, such as APR or Unitronic. You will find lots of people without any experience with both fighting both sides or fighting for some home-brew tuner who makes power, but I've logged 100s of 1000s of miles on personal APR tuned cars from a simple tune to big turbo upgrades without a single failure. You could do a K04 turbo upgrade with downpipe and tune and have a real sleeper for not a ton of money, and it'd be plenty reliable every day--it may even get better fuel economy when driving sanely, as it would give you a couple hundred more RPM before the turbo spools and you start requiring more fuel.
On this side of the screen, I'd also like to say thanks to Mr Crac for introducing me to such an interesting new channel! Looking forward to exploring your fascinating back catalogue and to your new projects in the months ahead. Very glad to be a new subscriber. Best wishes from the UK!
Btw, mix old with new (old style, new tech) = best of both worlds!
Just subbed due to the Beetle. My parents have a 2012 Beetle 2.5L that we got new and it is a lot of fun to drive. That build is going to be a lot of work, but I am sure that your passion for VW will really shine with this one. Like others have said, I would definitely recommend an APR, REVO, IE tune and DSG tune along with maybe a downpipe/inlet pipe, and maybe an intake or exhaust. I do like the newer front bumper to be honest, but either one would be fine.
I guess it's a hit and miss thing with VW. My first car was a '89 VW Microbus 2.1i. Loved the RWD action but the rest of it was crap. Now I only drive Opels.
The wheels can be resurfaced. I have a guy in Canada, that does that all the time and fixes them looking great.
As per engine, cold air intakes ok, but make sure your keep the mass air flow meter is hooked up.
When you get the new motor, check what year it is. If its a 2011, change the timing tensioner and chains, aa they are known issues. Another great vw guy to watch ans ask questions is Humble Mechanic. He can give you some items with the 2.0 TSI motor.
What an great gift. You're gonna knock this build outta the park!!!! Can't wait to see the videos.
Awesome, I’d definitely go with the newer style bumper
I still have the release brochure from the first New Beetle. And my 1974 Super Beetle with the engine.. um..
elsewhere. um, to either rebuild it or get it done right at the local bug expert.
He builds aircooled trikes, watched him put together a frame on his 8th or 15th build.
I've had to tow a few cars to him to fix my failures :
I LOVE your channel. You are an extremely hard working young man, an inspiration. You never quit. When you work so hard on something & you don't like the result, you tear it down & start over. As a mom, I know yours must be very proud. Keep up the good work.
I mean if you have to rebuild the front anyways.... might as well update the look. I love these cars.
A Stage 2 setup consisting of an ECU flash and Downpipe will be nice for the TSI. I know you said no big turbo but a K04 turbo would be a nice upgrade considering you have the motor out.
Hi Zach! I saw you with Sam and I like your work, you seem like a really good friend and I’ll be following your builds from now on, I also like VW bettles I’m excited about how your build would end up, greetings from Germany
Older style bumper.
Well....I went back to the clip and I'm not sure. New one has more of a Porsche-y vibe that kind of says you want your car to be a Porsche. They both just have such a different, yet cool, look.
Coming from Samcrac to see the beetle rebuilt 😎
Awesome man it's well deserved, we know you'll bring the best out of this car!
Big project! Hope it goes smoothly. About the bumper style....personally I like the older style better. Boat looks awesome and your projects turn out to be beautiful vehicles. Great work, I enjoy watching your rebuilds
i started watching ur channel cause of sam crac so glad he mentioned u, i liked beetlee wing bikes . hope u do this beetle justice im big bug fan here in the u.k remind me of builds people do with these porche 911 build/look likee good start for one these are with big back wing droped and allready wide arches black wheels chrome/gold outssides they look gud wen u do them tidy thas what i do with it i love old skool 911 s in black and bugs ,watever you do gud luck ! btw a vr6 golf engine a gud engine for these but bit too late for tha ....................................
VW New Beetle RSi
What happened to the Figaro
Returned to Sams wife I assume.
On the last pontoon video it's in the background (in the garden) so I gather it is waiting on parts. That seems to be the progression of things.
I'm guessing with the crazy world we're in getting parts from Japan is very long and challenging.
You get what you freakin deserve! Hope you have fun rebuilding that phat Porsche looking beetle! I'll be following this build along with the Figaro!
I want to see this build. I'm sure you will do a great job with it. My first Beetle was a 1975 Super Beetle I bought in 1978. It got me everywhere. Even coast to coast.
I can't wait to see the videos Zach - with the prices of the seat covers you may just be able to get some new seats... That cigarette smoke can be difficult to remove - If I remember correctly Sam has an ozone generator - I had a 2015 Kia Soul that was smoked in and was able to remove the smell after about 3 sessions with my ozone machine - just make sure you heed the warnings... I agree that the newer style bumper looks better but heck it's your car - it'll look great either way!
As soon as I saw it was a TSI engine and you said it was a non-runner I immediately knew it had bent valves, didn't had to see Sam's video😂.
I love Beetles too specially old ones, some people might look down on them but there are a lot of people who really appreciate them. Best of luck with the build, looking forward to see it.👍
Iv had a few vws in my past I currently have a 7.5 Golf R tunes theres alot of choices Apr,unitronic, Revo, integrated engineering, and u can also tune ur dsg and get a pops in bangs tune if u run a downpipe just make sure u upgrade ur coil packs wth the audi R8 ones
Congratulations! Now do what you do. Grow your channel. Give back to the community. Maybe one day you’ll be in the position to do both ex same as bd pay it forward to someone else! 👍🏼
I'm more of a restoration-fan than into all the modding and aftermarket stuff but you do *you* as always. Maybe you plan to Herbie Love Bug this car? Have fun!
you could totally fix those wheels or have them fixed and re powder-coated professionally. For tuning just get an intake and an APR tune.
Good luck... Been watching Sam's stuff for awhile, were following you now to see the progress on Project Restore The Beetle!
It was called the Launch Edition. It was very basic. These were the first 2012 models dealers received.
Sam is good people he’s just as awkward as you for the longest time I’ve watched him I thought you might have been his brother lol Merry Christmas 🎄
