- 00:00 In Zambia, a very old truck which was used to build the houses of thousands of peasants serves as a legend. After 46 years of activity, it still continues to work despite repeated leaks and breakdowns. But in the rainy season, the old cabin struggles on the tracks of the country. When the waters of the Zambezi invade the plains, the signal is given to king losis Imwiko II to leave his palace to settle in another residence, in the dry. This is the beginning of an incredible procession, which lasts eight hours, mobilizes 150 boats and 600 paddlers.

I have lived and worked in Zambia for 37 years and could probably write a book on my exploits. It is a wonderful country full of hope and the indigenous people of this country were always smiling,friendly and happy no mater what. I ended up marrying a Lozi woman and we stayed together for 25 yrs until she was killed in an RTA. I remember one funny episode when I was directing traffic on a main road in Chingola. We were escorting a crane and it got stuck. I was in the middle of the road directing the traffic when a truck of which I held my hand up to stop didn't so I dived out of it's way as it narrowly missed me. The driver stuck his head out of the window and shouted "Sorry bwana NO BRAKES" and just carried on down the road. Wow it would never happen in the UK . I really miss that country but alas cannot return due to ill health so here we are 67years old in a cold damp unfriendly UK. This film has brought back all those good memories of Zambia. Thank you for uplifting my day.

I gotta say, here in America we have people that go flipping F’n NUTS screaming and cursing when McDonald’s forgets to give them an extra ketchup or something. Then you have these people in Africa smiling through REAL hardships. I love their spirit. I was always told that you see the most smiles in the poorest places. And that’s true as can be.

I worked at a truck body manufacturer in Sheffield in the late 1970's fitting these Bedford TJs out for export to Zambia. They were old fashioned and last of their line then but obviously good solid kit to have survived . Thanks for posting.
I wonder if some former workers from your factory could get some spare parts and go to Zambia as volunteers and restore their truck for them?

I can tell you from travels around Africa as a banked guy that these type of people are really good hearted and enjoyable to show attention to them, take a moment and buy them a beer. They love the interest and fellowship (and respect).They really make us to think about our own lives. I'd feel hardship if i ever couldn't fly Business Class, these folks are struggling for their daily bread. Bless them! 🙏🏻🙏🏾

I am a Zambian, from Central Province. Even though the documentary does not give a viewer a holistic picture of the country's cultural heritage, it fairly depicts the struggles of a poor family in a typical rural area, challenges faced by artisanal miners, pollution and the unique and conservative traditional ceremony of the beautiful Lozi people.

Good to hear that sir. Was looking forward to visiting Zambia to see any agricultural opportunities to undertake in partnership with local entrepreneurs. I also fabricate Green energy machines like briquette making and plastic recycling to pave works. How can I get reliable information to get acquainted before I come. Secondly, are all major roads deplorable like what I have seen in the video or we have better infrastructure for transporting agricultural produce from farms? Please help. I am from Nairobi Kenya
I'm amazed by the spirit and determination of the father and son and all the peoples working to keep that old truck going not only for themselves but for the benefit of entire town all without complaint.

We all take every day life for granted..even the most simple tasks & never satisfied.Even though I am very humble,watching this reminds me to be even more grateful. God bless these people that have to work so hard..just to stay alive. May their journey be blessed

What truly shines through is how inventive these people are and how little they have to go with. They still survive, pushing through and dont ever seem to complain.
I love Africans' joy of living, their deep hope for life and their pure hearts.
These people have an indomitable spirit. Through no fault of their own they are burdened with profound and dire socioeconomics circumstances. Nonetheless, they pull together with laughter and Gusto. I would love to visit the continent of Africa. These people are my kind of people.
While most people in developed countries are focused on racism, bills, stressful city life , appearance and clothing etc… us in Africa don’t get bothered too much about those things… life is simple as long we have food and shelter we are OK

For many from Africa when they come to the West they outperform people who have lived here in poverty for generations. Africans can bring an industrial attitude forged by their hardships. In the West we r struggling over pronouns (there r more than 80) now instead of using he or she. The Supreme Court nominee in the United States said she couldn't Define what a woman is because she's not a biologist if you can believe that. Sadly, when the hearing took a break she was late returning because she was unable to find a woman's washroom since she didn't know what a woman was. I hope to visit Africa one day the true cradle of civilization.

I have worked at a dealership as a mechanic for over a decade, I always say any mechanic in Zambia can walk circles arounf me. These boys can fix it all; anything really.
I mean. If you want some bullshit village fix with bubble gum holding it together, sure.
I was thinking none of it was really fixed. A hose, or low level repairs would do wonders. Otherwise they keep paying a man to come back to look at it for 25 years

These mechanics in these documentaries don't need a shop, they ARE the shop. They don't need expensive machines, they ARE the mschines.

My dear dad had one of those in 1965. Biafran Soldiers commandeered it in 1966 during the Nigerian / Biafran civil war. Dad said the vehicle was a beast. Tough as a Carmel

Great documentary!! Very entertaining and informative, and could basically feel the Zambian atmosphere and vibe through the screen.
The father and son's bond is unbreakable. I wish they could get a new truck. He mentioned that they are poor, I disagree. They are abundantly blessed with natural resources, if only they could make use of them and maybe start businesses etc. I live a stone throw away- Namibia

I've watched all the videos in this series. I love how you use the adventures to show us all the social issues in many poor countries and the corruption in a lot of them. So many African countries are rich in resources but it's all controlled by greedy multinationals who care nothing for the people. The worst are the few citizens who control all the wealth and give nothing back. Shows the resilience of the people. God bless them all.

Dear Zambia how i miss you,,your people have smiles and respect life all life. People, animals and plants. I was a child when I had the luck to live there. It is where elephants cross a hotel lobby to eat their mangoes . I learnt that your independent bicycel company no longer exists.I forgot the name, they were strong and easily repairable every where, every thing made in Zambia, no costly imports! The lorry was bought when i was still there!

Having lived & worked in Southern Africa for most of my life, the scenes shown are very typical outside of the larger towns & cities.
Rural folk, although poor, have a stoic attitude to life in general.
Everything can be fixed with wire, rope, plastic, sticks etc.
Many hands will always emerge to push, shove & pull.
Ubuntu is a word, which describes a helpfulness and cheerful attitude, within communities, who enjoy the good times and share the bad.
I am very impressed with this video, whatever the fact that we live with gratitude to the almighty. I love Zambia, I am Indonesia.
It’s sad because the newer Land Rover generations are now mostly seen in the suburbs doing the school run. They’re not doing what their legacy demands. Loved every second of this video.

Oh gosh am from Central province in Kenya and we used to have the same type of British trucks but I enjoyed see this it's like a film father and son working very hard for their livelihood and helping other Zambians show of love .It's nice to watch it thousand times

I attended a technical school at General Electric with the ride along mechanic on the presidential aircraft when Mister Kaunda was in office. I enjoyed his perspective on things we in the west take for granted. A highlight was touring the Saugus Iron Works and Old Ironsides. He was a grand fellow, modest and soft spoken but with a heart of steel.

Born in this amazingly beautiful country, I maintain, Bemba, Nyanja, and my German language skills, I have not been home for over 25 years now, and seeing this video gives me the motivation to visit "home soonest" I wanna come and eat Delele, Ifisashi, ibondwe and chikanda😍

My father was a school teacher at Kalabo secondary school from 1966 to 1981. Kalabo is a Barotse land small town, near the Angolan border. I visited that place for 3 months when I was a teenager in the early seventies.
