  • World's Most Dangerous Roads: Deadliest Journeys in Benin in 2016
Deadliest Roads - Vietnam: • Deadliest Roads | Viet...
In the far north of Benin, in the heart of an arid jungle, the Baribas people make their home. Historically warriors, they have now become farmers and gain their wealth principally from the cotton market.
For months, the cotton trucks move to the rhythm of the inhabitants of North Benin. Dramane and Zachari maintain the traffic from the North to the South of the country, on track or pavement, in spite of the danger. On board trucks that they have named “Titans,” or aboard battered vans, they sidle along uneven roads, at the risk of toppling over at any moment due to the several tons of cargo that weigh down their vehicles. Dramane has 24 hours to cross the country with his foot firmly on the gas, trying to reach the Cotonou harbor. Cotonou, rather than being a reference to cotton, signifies ‘The River of Death,” which is an apt term for the route that he is traveling…

Ella vos. It's truly incredible what this channel is doing. The thing is humans have neglected their core values, to love each other as themselves. The brighter part is, the human spirit beats it all. I just wonder when the spirit breaks down and decides all humans should be equal, what happens then?. Anarchy is surely on its way.

I am in a position where i think my life is difficult, but am not near what this people of God are experiencing. There is this perception that Africans don't know their God, and Africans still think the gods they're praying to are real. I am a kikuyu from kenya, and we believe in only one God. Most of our tribes have this belief. We Africans know we have one true God. I don't know what happened we associated ourselves with other gods.

Take 1 minute to look up where Benin 🇧🇯 is on your map: the two main cities, which countries it borders, the name of the ocean at its shores. I always do that when I hear about a place I’ve not been to yet. It gives me a sense of place. Benin 🇧🇯 is in West Africa, a smallish country between Togo to the West and Nigeria to the East. On the Gulf of Guinea. Burkina Fasso to the Northwest and Niger to the Northeast.
French is spoken. Porto Novo is the Capital but Cotonou economically more important. It’s got mostly a Tropical climate and approx. 12 mill population. Cotton is the country's wealth. Unfortunately, industrialized cotton farming comes at a huge cost to Benin. 10,000 liters or 2640 gallons are needed to grow and produce enough cotton for 1 pair of jeans (even the cheapest ) which is insane. Think about it next time you want to buy yet another cheap tshirt (hey I am so guilty on the tshirt front)
Let’s join drivers of seriously rickety trucks Dramane and Zachari on their daily journeys working for the cotton industry. And remember them next time you put on your jeans and T-shirt. The cotton used to make them may have passed through their hands.
We hope sustainable cotton farming comes to Benin soon.
You are helping by watching this documentary because now you’re aware of what’s going on. You’ll also help by buying less fast fashion. Delete those cotton products out of your shopping cart!

Damn! that guy with the old yellow truck ( whats left of it ), he deserves a new truck! We have plenty of discontinued trucks in Europe ( 10-20 years old ) that can be given to those people. Little bit of maintainance, new MOT-check and give it to those very hard working people!!! With a more modern truck they drive much faster, more safe , higher payload and much better fuel economy. That in my opinion is taking care of your brothers and sisters on this planet! Than they will earn more money in less time and so the economic system will develop. One day Africa will be rich, they are rich in nature and resources but destroyed by others the past 300 years.

They are lazy and if you've worked in Africa it takes at least two people sleeping for one to do a little bit of work. The fact the men lazed around refusing to work while the women fetched water was just one indication. Perhaps they could have dug a local well instead of waiting for gap year millennials to come and do it for them.
