  • How to change the settings on a Nest thermostat so that it becomes a manual thermostat and will hold a set temperature. Unlike most other thermostats, the Nest thermostat does not have a HOLD button or a hold feature so one needs to play around with the settings to be able to accomplish that which used to be done with the press of a single button on the old thermostat... In this video I show you step by step what you need to change in the settings to get this done.

Genius freaking Genius TY 👍 ⚠️ Remove all weapons you may have in your home before purchasing and attempting to use these NEST thermostats as it will make you lose your sanity ...😡 And I kinda like those old white box's as UP or Down is all thats needed, plus all the other items in your home won't get broken & most importantly nobody gets seriously hurt.😅 12 other videos claiming similar results yet ONLY you got EVERY step making it 💯 👏

This video is a lifesaver! We came back to our home to find it at 85 degrees because the Nest has a mind of its own. Happy to have a nice simple, old-fashioned thermostat function again!

I spent $200 for the boiler to be check out. The technician said the boiler is not the problem, it’s the thermostat. I called Google they said the thermostat wasn’t installed properly. I called the electrician to check the Nest, he said it’s correctly installed and charged $50 for two minutes in my home.
The problem continues until I watch you video. I fixed in two minutes and I’m without my $250

I forgot to show how to set the temperatures at the end of the video.. Even though whoever has this thermostat probably already knows but I'll mention it anyway. Basically after doing the steps in the video, you will only need to switch the thermostat to heat or cool mode and after that, you only need to spin the dial to control the temperature and there is no need to even press on it for anything else. And you can also still control your thermostat remotely (from your phone) if you have it connected to your wi-fi. Changing the settings I showed will not disable that feature.

The Nest thermostat is beyond geeky, and I loath the idea of a bit of tech thinking it knows what I want especially when my needs are so varied every day. Hey Jay.....you are a life saver. I have checked online several times. But its nothing like hands on (visual). For one year in an apartment complex no one could actually explain how to work this nest to ones advantage. Like the gentleman; I also hated it. I was constantly up and down changing the temperature. It was driving me nuts. And forget about when I'm sleeping in bed. Who wants to get up in the middle of the night to change a temperature gauge or NEST thing. So I would mainly suffer with the heat. Today I said to myself, there has got to be something online Your site came up! Fantastic!! Thank you so much! I am happy after one year of misery. From the elderly . I'm looking for more of you. Thanks again!! 😊

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEOS. I’ve spent too many weeks wondering what I was doing wrong that I couldn’t figure out how to use this. The apartment I moved into had this already installed so I was kinda stuck with it and had no idea that the whole thing was supposed to be autonomous. If I set it to 70 it would be at 70 for 10 mins then the air just shut off and it would go back to being freezing. I don’t think the company understands how many people just want ONE STABLE TEMPERATURE throughout the day and night

    • @TheParot161

@@rickrosenbloom9605 Yes, the wi-if remote still works. I use the Nest I-phone app often. That being said, my first Nest unit developed a bad wireless chip not long after installation. I did troubleshooting and determined that the wi-if function had failed. Google sent me a free replacement. It hadn’t been installed very long before the cooling function on it failed. It would heat, but no A/C. So, I paid for a third Nest (I swore if it failed I wouldn’t be buying another), and it has worked great, wi-fi Nest app and all.

One serious consequence was losing sleep because thermostat changed settings in the middle of the night without warning, causing us to wake up. I’d set the entire weekly temp schedule only to wake up and see that it was not at the scheduled temp & that at different hours of the night it was 77-78 degrees! When you live in very hot climate and it’s summer this doesn’t make for a happy morning🥵

Finally, when it said it was heating, there was room temperature air coming of out the system - even though it said it was heating. Now, all fixed!!

The premise of the Nest is insane: settings based on people’s schedules. When WEATHER is the whole reason for HVAC systems. The schedule-based system is the reason everyone is freezing in their office buildings. Thank you for your excellent video!

Here's what's crazy: Mine used to do a great job of seeing what the outside temp was, and adjusting between what I had set. I have never, ever, set my temp to 78F. Yet, last year, Google made some change and after over 3 years with this thing it started boiling me like a lobster. Someone at Google screwed this up and refuses to admit it. Hilarious.

OMGGGG. Winter in utah and this thing definitely has a mind of its own. Woke up to 55 degrees and couldn't get it to heat up NOW. Plus we have neighbors below (one thermostat) asking us to turn the heat up, and we're like "uhhhh we're trying!" Thank you so much man! Seriously! Coldest morning of my life.

Thank you. I implemented those 4 changes. One thing I am not sure is included. Several nights ago, I woke up hot. I got out of bed and checked the Nest thermostat. There was a window that said "Now is the time to replace your furnace filters ==> Dismiss" I pressed dismiss and the A/C started again. So... If I was away traveling and this happened my A/C would be off the entire time. Or if it were winter, then my heat would be off and my pipes would freeze. Thank you so much for this video, you have saved many people.

Dude this advice is fantastic. The nest thermostat is too fiddly and does it’s own thing too much, and the WiFi breaks in the unit! We rent, and the nest was heating our house to 78 and reading 72. And it was cold right before bed, and crazy hot at midnight. You’re a lifesaver.

VERY VERY HELPFUL!!!! This has been driving us crazy! Nest is beyond complicated - I would prefer a simple on/off thermostat - did not need or want all these features but got stuck with them when new heater was installed a couple of years ago. This has taken too much time and attention to figure out - it's not a "smart" device for us at all! You are GREAT for posting this video. And now we HAVE a simple manual thermostat. NEST should pay you for helping its customers!

If this works it will literally be a life savor. Our nest thermostat has been a menace here in Texas. It's 109 outside and the thermostat switches to 80+ degrees in the house then when you turn it down, it takes almost an hour running to get the house cooled back down. It's not saving any electricity at all and has made our home unbearable at times. Thank you for your video!

Aesthetically pleasing and beautifully designed from an external perspective. I’ve been tempted to buy one on numerous occasions. They did a really great job in that regard and have the competition killed. And to your point excellent marketing as well. But unbelievable the hoops they make you jump through. The irritation that they try so hard to run a homeowners heating and cooling life could frustrate many to the point of returning.

Word of Advice TV Hey Jay,
Completely off subject, but a thought that has crossed my mind lately as we enter into cooling season is the question of performing preventative maintenance as it relates to capacitors. You may have already covered it in a previous video and I’m going to search further, however If you haven’t touched on it, I thought it may be a question other PM focused viewers may have and you likely know the answer to
Specifically, is there reason to check capacitor strength annually? I could be wrong, but I believe an under performing out of tolerance cap may still allow the compressor to start. And if that’s the case, would that under performing cap potentially cut the life span of an AC compressor motor or even a blower motor perhaps?
I don’t know the answer but given the cost to replace an cooling system in the event of a compressor winding failure, is it wise to proactively check cap performance annually or every two years if an under performing cap could or would likely diminish useful life of a critical motor? Not sure if that’s something many techs check and advise replacement if out of spec when conducting an annual tune up for example?
I’m big a PM fan and don’t want to be careless with assets I have so the thought has crossed my mind many times to check cap performance but have not done so out of laziness and not sure it matters. But if the question does have merit, I was thinking it could be an idea for use on a future video of yours down the line depending on how popular you think that content might yield number of views, etc.
Just my two cents and likely completely meritless. Have a nice Memorial Day!
