Omega Legion outliving all of your loved ones and friends, and watching all of them die of age while you continue to live on without them, can be a very big burden and curse to bear.

I do like the prejudices that demons have to go through. just because he's a demon doesn't mean he can't be honorable. Demons have a code of honor just like everyone else. By the way immortality sucks it's not as great as you might think it is you live for thousands of years you're not allowed to love and anyone you've cared for or have ever known usually dies within 60 or 70 years depending on the person. I think the reason they killed off Jason blood is to show exactly how Noble the demon etrigan is.

I think, in this telling, it was a, "Oh shit, BBG will rise again, and we won't have a champion" realization moment. I mean, the JL was a loss cause when it came to the magical insanity happening at the start of Dark. If Merlin just healed Jason, Blood would still be a human and die when his time came. By linking Jason to Etrigan he would have a knight and an immortal demon, ready for when Destiny re-emerged.

Etrigan seems pretty honorable actually. Also I like the Justice League and comic versions that always speaks in limericks.
As far as the comics go, another reason Jason hated being joined to Etrigan is that while one of them was on earth or elsewhere in the mortal realm the other one would be literally in Hell. Not so bad for Etrigan but pretty awful for Jason. Also a reason you might not want to be fused with a demon Mr Needlemouse! ;o)
It's also worth mentioning that Etrigan and Merlin are half brothers, both being sons of the archfiend Belial. This is obviously also the source of Merlin's magical powers.
Also, if memory serves, Etrigan exhibitions greater desire for combat and destruction in the comics. He is more bloody when he fights his enemies and in more than one occasion has attempted to maintain control of Jason's body and remain on earth, one more reason why Jason tries so hard not to allow Etrigan to surface. Because it is not guaranteed that Etrigan will willingly switch back ownership of the body.

Now I realized that The Etrigan/Jason.B is Hulk/Bruce.B they hate they hatted monsters inside but later accept them one scientist and other the magical scientists.

So the other reason for Etrigan relinquishing Control is maybe Jason’s code of honour is rubbing off on Etrigan something todo with the spell Merlyn used to bind the two together plus the fact demons are chaotic in Nature.
Etrigen’s words about Jason at the burial were touching and very telling to the demons character

The version of the Demon that works best for me is the Jack Kirby original. Jason Blood is a demonologist. Try to find a job doing that, eh?:)

The attack on Camelot came from Morgan Le Fe and Mordred, not some "destiny". With their assembled forces, they stormed the castle and were on the verge of victory.
In desperation, Merlin summoned his brother from hell. Etrigan and Merlin were half brothers, both sons of the demon Belial. To anchor Etrigan on earth, he had to be bonded to a human host. Against his will, Jason Blood was made the host.
It's a tragedy, really. Camelot still fell. Blood survived but lost his memory. Centuries passed and he was largely unaware of it. And the demon lay dormant.
I find this more compelling than the animated film version.:)

I still remember the first time I saw etrigan. It was back when I was a child watching that episode of Justice League unlimited when he was fighting Martin manhunt to prevent him from making that deal with Morgana Lafayie, I loved this character

Bad idea that Jason blood died. He may have been immortal but five hundred years is still too short a time compared to other immortal characters either Marvel or DC it would have been really cool too see what kind of stories that could have unfolded.

I think merlin knew that destiny wouldn't be gone for ever, and jason be among the only to keep etrigan to their battle.
That is the origin according to the movie and the Comics Jason was someone who betrayed Merlin and led to the downfall of Camelot it was also displayed this way in the Justice League animated series

Needle, you will want to take back what you said about being fused into a demon and becoming immortal. Because being immortal is worthless. Now if they are going to make a sequel with Justice League Dark, who's going to be the main antagonist this time? Probably not Faust since he's only second rate. Maybe Klarion the Witch Boy? But I do expect Fate and Secret to make a debut and Orchid to finally do something. It would be a crime for Etrigan and Swampthing to not return.

Maybe Etrigan is borne of the same magic as Captain Marvel? Could Merlin and the Wizard Shazam be the same person just using the same spell but at different points in Time?
Both Etrigan and Merlin get their powers from Hell. They are half brothers, both being sons of the archfiend Belial. (In the comics at least.) I'm pretty sure I've seen both Merlin and the wizard Shazam in the same comic, at the Rock of Eternity along with some other DC magical/celestial types meaning they are separate characters. I can't remember which comic though.

The first Etrigan series is available on kindle. According to it, Merlin transformed Jason into Etrigan. He then spent a few centuries not knowing he wasn't human but not knowing why he wasn't aging either. He wasn't really happy with the answer.
As an interesting side plot, Jason has a human friend from India whose wife is always setting Jason up on dates. They don't go into, but she seems to have stopped introducing him to her friends when her husband found out Jason was a demon. Talk about awkward.

Merlin chose jason in JLD as he remembered and feared that destiny will come back so he picked jason as he is nearby and one of the few that last at least longer than the rest who fought destiny. As a contingency plan if he ever comes back that is.

I don't understand why they don't trust etrigan. He saves the situation every time and never loses control to go on a killing spree or anything like that.
I actually kind of feel bad for Jason blood like seriously I feel like he did not deserve to be fused to a demon and then having to live out the rest of his friends and family and also I kind of feel bad for Etrigan the dude kept his end of the bargain only Merlin to go back on this promise which kind of affects the question why did he do it in the first place?
