Its a comparison of Solar (SSC819) vs Mechanical (SRQ037).I reviewed the Solar Speedtimer in my last video- please check out my last video for a more indepth review. The Mechanical Speedtimer came out of nowhere but it is not a completely new invention from Seiko. Let's find out if these watches are worth putting on your radar
Special thank you the Bezelhouse for making this review happen if you are interested in these timepieces please check out BezelHouse!

I don’t understand why your videos don’t have more views but I’m glad you’re still posting. This was a very helpful, wonderfully put together and as always, well scripted and narrated. Thank you and please keep this up.
I really appreciate your kind thoughts and words. I can only surmise that the algorithm has it's own plans for pushing selectr videos out there. That wont stop me from producing videos- I am enjoying the process of learning to make better videos :)
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel
@@perpetuality Glad to hear you won’t stop. I had subbed last year then drifted out of the watch scene; recently got back into it and was genuinely happy to see you still posting. These videos feel like having a knowledgeable friend talk with honesty and depth about his passion, not just some spec narration in order to put out content. Kudos and here’s looking forward to more.
@@liquidtunes I am glad you're back into watches- I find that once you're in it's hard to get out haha. Really cannot thank you enough for your words of down to earth encouragement
I just bought the white dial le. Same watch, different dial. My first mechanical chronograph. Really a stunning watch. The size is fine , I wear mm300 well.
Really a nice vintage look. Very happy with it
Since you recently got the white speed timer, what are you enjoying about it?
That was a very good review, thank you. Just to let people know, both watches are sold by Gnomon Watches, and the prices are much more competitive than the MRSPs quoted here.
That’s a great point Martin!
7:50 Agree wholeheartedly. Take out that date, slim down the case, put a manual wind in. You'll have a waitlist.
It does have manual wind
Another level up in your videos both in content and production.
Thank you Jason really appreciate it
Absolutely stunning piece
I just discovered your channel and it's really high-quality content, thank you!
I rarely comment but if it can help you with the almighty algorithm... Here you go! Keep up the good works!
Such a spectacularly done video!
Thank you Shane! Was great to catch up with you!
Very nice video. I especially enjoyed the introduction which made a change to someone saying “HALOW”. I love the look of the mechanical Speedtimer and would have bought one if it was the same 39mm diameter of the smaller solar version - or better still, a vintage looking 37mm to suit my 170mm vintage wrist.
Are you sure they both have the same lug to lug length? The mechanical one looks much longer on your wrist - it looks more like 50mm - and longer still when you consider the bracelet’s male end link which effectively lengthens the lug to lug by another 3 or 4 mm.
Liked and subscribed.
I just bought the prospex solar panda. When I saw the mechanical version and the price. Man. I would have to see a $1000+ watch in person. And it would have to be a really special watch!
Cool video. Thank you for posting. First time I see these watches. I just bought an orange Seiko GMT.
Got my seiko solar for $479 today. Definitely a great watch for the cost!
Solar, in my opinion, is the only good option for chronographs, making it reliable and "perpetual".
Absolutely agree. The service costs of the mechanical chronograph will be prohibitive.
You may be right. I have Sinn chrono I love, but I dread 4 or 5 years from now when I have to send it in for servicing (hopefully not Germany from the US). It’ll probably be north of $500.
The biggest miss with this watch is simply the hour and minute hands are not easily distinguishable. A huge mistake.
Just hade the SRQ037 on my wrist today, This watch got it all. it is elegant, sporty and simply beautiful.
They have it on sale , 40%, off. I had them put it away for me, I'll just want to learn, read and watch about the it, then I'll probably go for it. But only if I can get it down to 50 % of, Will try, I know the dealer/owner so I hope it works..
Brother, where was such a big discount?
At a Seiko rebeller in Sweden, it was a 40 % discount on it.
I got a bit more since I know the owner and have bought some other watches at this store through the years
was the seconds hand centered nicely when it is reset? from the video i noticed was slight misaligned, might be due to the camera angle?
I got this watch recently its beautiful really however micro adjustment really needed in every watch cuz i tried many times remove / attach back to find perfect fit but failed :) its a bit losy i couldnt get my perfect fit on my 7.5" wrist.. except that, yes crown should have logo of seiko or X perhaps. prospext for such a price and box definitely simple cheap.. unfortunately all seiko watches like that except some GS models.. 300 usd vs 3500 usd seiko watch have same box . well, however the watch at least mine damn so accurate running +1.5-2 / SPD. this is even better COSC level swiss movement. you can get this accuracy from swiss watches in the range of 5000-6000 usd minimum . the watch is perfectly finished in every details when its 12:00 midnight passed date changes instantly not slowly till 12:20 or so.. also, lume is fantastic when its got sunlight its keeping lume very long time . these are my experiences and comments
0:51 Is that a Lorier Hyperion I see peeking out? I'd recognize my daily anywhere :)
Good eye 😃
had to subscribe for thos macro b rolls on the watch!
The SSC is phenomenal at that price.
I am a diehard Seikopath but I have the solar SSC813. I would like to know how much the mechanical chronograph would cost to service..A nice review though.
Hey Alex, the Seiko Service USA quote a similar 8r28 movement full service to be around $360-400
@@perpetuality that's not too devastating but it's something to be borne in mind - especially with mechanical chronographs! All of my chronographs are mechaquartz or solar for this reason alone. Keep up the good work!
Excellent comparison review of two great Seiko chronographs! I think both look stunning, but are a little overpriced!
The mechanical chronograph would be my pick and for me I prefer the bigger size for a chronograph. And for the movement I’m also ok with the thickness.
I personally do slightly prefer the look of the panda version of the solar version. But I find 60 minute chronograph sub dials very difficult to read compared to the bigger 30 minute version on the mechanical watch.
But I do agree if you are a big Seiko fan and have the money you couldn’t go wrong with either!
Thank you kindly my friend! The simplied 30 min totalizer and bi-compax layout of the SRQ037 is just awesome. I hope this is a sign of things to come in terms of mechanical chronos from Seiko. Its been too long Seiko Japan kept all the cool chronos!
Except it came from historically the best chronograph manufacturer.
The srq lug to lug is a misprint from Seiko. It’s 49.8mm not 45.5.
No matter what, I bought the Solar one. 2 Reasons : Price and looks. My other one is an Omega Speedmaster. That one is worth spending + 5K. The Seiko is not.
The SSC looks way better!
As soon as you see how the mechanical looks from the side, you realise it must be a nightmare to wear it. I can imagine there will be pleanty of them on the used market after 6-12 months in a watch box.
Which means it could be a great secondhand watch for those who really want it 👍
As a watch collector...most of my collection is mechanical/automatic.. otherwise it is smart watch all the way.
I don't know anywhere where a speedtimer quartz went for $800...
I'll buy it if 12.5mm thick.
wonderful watch, a bit too pricey for what it is.
Absolutely bonker😲 to think someone would shell out 3k for that when you can spend 1/3 on more historical models like the 6139, 6138 or a definitely superior movement like the citizen 8110😁
Great points. It feels like Seiko is really betting on the diehard seiko enthusiasts to shell out the big money for these types of releases lately
Do you have an Instagram page?
I certainly do Jason- though the handle is different than my YT as it came before i started this channel. It is thatwatchaddict
I want a seiko so bad, but the sizes ruin it for me. This mechanical and the LX GMT are amazing but too absurdly big.
15mm isn't pretty in this shape.
Too thick!!!!
I hate that X kogo
I so wish Seiko could make a thin chronograph like they did back in the 70s.
Absolutely stunning piece
