- Instant boiling taps like this and in this example an 8-year-old Quooker is adding 200 extra TDS into the water and it everyone needs to pay attention and make sure they check their heating elements for corrosion or calcification and actually be aware the product is damaging the water quality.

Agreed, should have compared it to kettle boiled water that hasn’t been cleaned in the same time period. Rather than your own new product, ridiculous. That’s how scientists actually conduct experiments, you have to have the variables the same before you spew numbers out of readings....geez
An unserviced Quooker, if my understanding is correct, is nothing more than a water tank filled with limescale. Although this excess buildup may cause a spike in your TDS meter readings, that water remains safe to drink.

Are they really? It's basically a vacuum flask. There is very little energy lost. I have an electric kettle, and I try to only heat what I'll use, but I know people who fill their kettle all the way up, use a cup, keep the kettle on hold, don't come back to it, and all that extra water is now just cooling down, ready to be reheated again. It would have been much better to have it in a super insulated container leaking very little energy, allowing for just the right amount of boiling water.
It makes sense, although what concerned me as someone who researched and bought an Osmio under cabinet system then changed to Osmio Zero free-standing unit and only my wife is considering Quooker as water drips into the sink vs an out of sink drip tray is the quality of the cooled filtered water, they use an active carbon filter cartridge however compared to Osmio’s four filters I wonder how Quooker would re mineralize the water or is it pure water. I would like to see the tds test done on a brand new install on boiling, sparking and the cold filtered water to understand better.
As someone considering buying one of these instant hot taps I was very interested to watch your videos on the subject.

As an aside - TDS meter readings are sensitive to the temperature of the liquids and it is not appropriate to make readings for comparison purposes unless all fluids are at the same temperature. I would also question whether the meter in question is suitable for use with temperatures nearing 100deg C. Most recommend taking measurements at 25degC which is the international standard. I mention this because it is a massive claim you are making, wholly based upon the readings from a device which is not being used according to good practice.
The temperature maximum usually on Tds meters is about 80 degrees c, many of them also measure temperature. You can easily test it yourself with anyone who has has instant boiling tap. Just allow the water to cool to room temperature and test the tds then.
@@OsmioWaterH2O Your "findings" would carry more weight had you followed Simon's sensible suggestion. I cannot easily test it myself for want of anyone with a boiling water tap. Why not retake your video comparing three samples at the same temperature and, while you do so, avoid the silence at the beginning of the present video?

The test with an 8 year old Qooker, and a brand new osmio, Can you test it with an 8 year old Osimo? Just in the name of fair play, and apples with apples etc.
Yes can do this because we do occasionally get old ones for repair, so can show TDS results from them. The Osmio Zero has a TDS alarm built into it to stop dispensing if it goes over a set level, so you end up comparing apples and crapples
8year tank. Vs New osmo? Is it fear? Maybe time for service? Do a test when ozmo is 8 year without service.
We did a test on a 3 month old quooker owned by a plumber called Martin Train, it was 30ppm higher and no calcium in there it was softened water
Yes have done tests on 7 year old ones with original rare earth ceramic oxide heating elements, there is no TDS increase when it's heated. This material is the gold standard for material extraction for heating elements

Definitely won’t be buying an Osmio machine. When your sales tactic is just to rubbish the competition I would have serious doubts about anything you say - or sell.

It's basically has a heating elements made with rare earth ceramic oxide which is guaranteed to not corrode even with aggressive or acidic water.
@@OsmioWaterH2O What about the material of the boiling tank itself? Is it also ceramic coated? Also is the water kept at a constant boiling temperature like an instant boiling water tap or a ‘BURCO’ boiler perhaps?
The “mechanism” described here sounds remarkably like electrolysis. Howsoever it may be, in what way are TDS’s dangerous? This aspect of the “mechanism” - be it electrolysis or some other electro-chemical process - has not, in this presentation, been clearly defined. The water in my region is very good quality. We, essentially, can’t really detect any distinct (unpalatable) difference between water direct from the cold tap or that from a filtered water device. It is true I don’t have the TDS data, but in 40 years of drinking and boiling this water we have never needed to descale any boiling device or appliance: they simly do not suffer from build of “deposits” lime, or otherwise.
the issues with all plumbing and heating system is corrosion and scale build up, so TDS is just a way to detect when this is happening, and a proper heavy metal lab test confirms it
I have had the same health concerns concerning these hot-water systems. All it took for me was to use some common sense which led me to search about videos of how the inside of these boilers look. Lot's of videos with huge limescale build-up. What made me even more concerned was that Quooker apparently recommends that the very small filter inside of the boiler needs to be changed only after 6 years or so. That was at least what I learned from watching one of these videos made by users. I thought: how can this be possibly safe?
OK, to be fair: I don't know what magic they have built into their filter it just says it is active carbon. And apparently, the hot water runs through this filter (Please correct me if I'm wrong on the hot water since I'm not completely sure about this point.)
I'm not about bashing anyone's products. I would just love to see in general companies not only focus on design, and convenience but also put much more thought into the health aspect of their products. This is true for all sorts of products not just for faucets.
Question: What type of warm-water system do you use for your home in general (bathing, washing the dishes etc.)? Are there any brands of flow heaters, boilers, etc. that you would recommend in terms of health? What would your personal optimal system look like including filtration? And for what type of water pipes would you settle for your home?
I would truly appreciate an answer from an expert like you.
That quooker tap needs a service. There’s no pressure when he turn the tap on. Bottom of the tank will be full of scale and that’s where the draw off outlet sits.
Would like to see the test on a new or serviced quooker tap model.
We had a plumber Martin with a 6 month old one adding 30 ppm, we have photos but waiting for him to make a video
One small correction.. the draw off is at the top.. the cold water inlet has a pipe extension to a deflector at the bottom. Hot water stays at the top, without getting chilled by circulating cold water... but yes, the Quooker needs a service

Who keeps a kettle 8 years?
Your missing the point. A kettle boils the water once before it consumed. Instant hot water taps continuously boil the water in a reservoir until it is used. This system increases the time factor for the oxidisation to take place.

I was looking to get a quooker tap/grohe red. Now that’s definitely not going to be the case. With your product is there any way to attach it to the mains?
We have the Osmio Fusion which is very similar which is mains connected but for any property with 5 people or less we recommend the Osmio Zero because there is a big advantage to not be connected to the drain which is the case with all other reverse osmosis systems
Are these instant hot water systems rivals to your company then ? Because that will surely affect your opinions on them. Viewpoints ?
Sorry to say but we used to sell them and discontinued after discovering this. There are no viewpoints expressed here, just facts. Look at the TDS, the water analysis, the facts....

Good point! Water boiled in a kettle should have been one of the comparisons. As a kettle boils water only once, I would expect to see a lower reading compared to a ‘boiling water tap’ which continually boils the same volume of water until it is used. This is when the oxidisation is given time to take place.
Fascinating insight, Thanks. Incidentally, we are on our second quooker, I appreciate that with its thermostat, it won’t be power on all the time. I cannot however establish the power consumption of an average use unit. Can anybody help. Thanks
The best way to do that is stop using it for a week and then see how many less kwh you used and then uninstall it!

Boil, cool, boil, cool, boil... if you want an energy efficient solution for boiling water in the home, wait for the kettle to boil. If you want a high consumption, catering solution, buy a BURCO boiler. A tried and tested solution since 1938. Save some money and baby seals while your at it!
Assuming that your ‘Osmio’ unit uses the same heat cycling principle, but has a ceramic coated element (not the tank I’m guessing) how is it any different to the competition?
If you want the purest possible option for the home, re-fill your existing kettle with as much water as you need each time you use it. Which is what most people do anyway.
Are you seriously suggesting that unfiltered tap water is the purest possible option? I think you may be missing the point.
As per the video TDS levels for the Osmio gave a reading of 36. What I want to know is where you are getting your facts that the reading of 36 is the safest option to consume out of the the 3 tested?
As per the water regulations the amount of TDS thats required in the water to be considered the healthiest is as per below:-
2000 Worst: A TDS level above 2000 ppm is completely unsafe and household filters can not handle this level of contamination
As per the above facts the osmio is actually removing the beneficial minerals that are required by our bodies. Please can you explain yourself?
Your notion is totally incorrect and probably came from the WHO. You should distinguish between minerals from biological and geological sources. The first challenge is to purify water to the best level, but this involves reducing the good, bad and the ugly. Once the water is in this state then then water is conditioned how we want it to be. The minerals are bioceramics which means they are bonded with carbon to make them bioavailable. Minerals from geological sources are not. Consider hardness of water provided by 120mg of calcium per litre vs the same amount of calcium from an apple. The apple is bonded with amino acids to make it bioavailable. The water from the Osmio Zero is also negative ORP, redox potential. You can research this until the cows come home, but ultimately look at the people who have been drinking distilled or osmotic water for the last 30 years and see for yourself if they are depleted in minerals or just happen to be the healthiest 70 year old you know. Good luck with your research because I can see where you are with it, and you have a long long long way to go 🙏

I’ve just had a new kitchen with a quooker tap. My late husband would’ve scrutinised data on things like this but I just trusted the ads.
But thanks I will be testing every 6 months and looking into new purchases from now on.
Water naturally contains minerals and metals including iron which is conductive,any heated water tank will collect this over time,including your kettle.nice sales pitch but unless you show me a detailed breakdown of any toxic metals and where they came from in the unit..I call B.S. might get you a few more jobs to pay that big ol mortgage though 👍

So 0.02% more parts per liter after 8years? oh no..
EC meters typically go up to 999, so have a increase like this which is getting on for nearly doubling is highly significant in the water treatment, but still a good point. Next step for us is to do a water quality test on these systems, we will do a full potability analysis including also the metals from the stainless steel like chromium and then show the source vs the instant boiling. The EC test simply shows there is something majorly wrong. Perhaps you drink and cook with the hot tap in your kitchen? Most people know not to do that and it normally wouldn't exceed 60 degrees C.
@@OsmioWaterH2O tappwater.co/en/tds-tap-water-filter-quality/ interesting read. Imo, if they claim a TDS of 300 - 600 to be fair, then the TDS of an old quooker unit at 450 doesn't sound alarming. Also the fact TDS cannot detect all details the same way a lab test does. And the human body actually requires a specific amount of minerals does also make sense to me.
@@Zarod89 if the Tds has doubled from the system that indicates something wrong and it means a lab test should be done. If you don't think it indicates anything wrong, why don't you use your hot tap for cooking or making tea or drinking, we all know what is going on here
I’ve installed many of these taps over the years as Part of my job as a experienced kitchen installer. They look great in principle, but the instant boiling water is (in my opinion) dangerous. I’ve had customers ( and children/visitors to those customers) who’ve got confused operating these taps and have got burnt. I’m not saying that no-one should buy these taps, but they should be made aware that if they are very old/vulnerable/children/easily confused are likely to use them think very carefully about purchasing. Would I buy one myself ? No.
Thanks for pointing out the dangers of these boiling water taps. People seem to far easily ignore these dangers. Dread to think the amount of accidents that these taps will lead to.

Terribly bias. A brand new machine! What will that be like in 8 years time? Also how can the reading be that much lower than the cold water tap? Was it filled with Alpine spring water? Surly it was filled with water that is supplying the cold tap so would be at least the same. What reading would you get from a kettle that is not brand new? Are these particles harmful at all? Most would probably be from lime scale. Poor video all round.
Whatever heats up water ends up in the water. Using a device that keeps water hot all the time and made from stainless steel is the worst thing one can do. The osmio zero uses a rare earth ceramic oxide heating element and these are usually changed within 7 years which heats only on demand and it makes a huge difference. People but tap water into the Osmio Zero and the systems makes the water have a negative orp which is the main reason for corrosion, I. E. Having a positive orp. Measure your tds and orp. You think it's a poor video, but you have alot to learn about water purity and corrosion.
Ohh I didn’t realise the tap water going into the machine reads 274 on tds meter but coming out of the machine it measures 27 was it? So the machine is actually magic it’s made the same tap water so much safer to drink. Hilarious! So what would the machine test at after 7 years? And why is it worse for the environment when tests show it’s cheaper to run a hot tap system than a kettle? So it’s using less electricity
@@siliconemaster you've really missed the point. Would you drink our of your hot tap at home and fill your kettle with that? Why not? It's even worse tds increase with instant boiling taps, you see if you can get that point. Noone should be using these devices, they need to be banned. Check the tds yourself anyone with a 3 month or older instant boiling tap, oh and make sure you let the water cool down first
