Nice video; I am doing a similar mod to my 1966 Mustang (302), any suggestions on engine cooling, fans, etc? I have very limited surface area in this application, so I am worried electric fans will not be adequate.
Whats nice on a 66 Gen1 Stang is that unlike my corvette, air flows STRAIGHT into the grill through the radiator / on my vette, there is a plastic deflector below the bumper that is REQUIRED to direct air through the radiator or it overheats / I'd go with the dual fan setup on your stang / it will work great. Basically on the highway they won't run, but in traffic they will kick in. Best part: With the Pro-Flo app, you can set the temperature that they come on / target a few degrees above your thermostat and you'll be all set / thanks for the comment Tony!
@@TacoJoe thanks for reply, only issue with dual fans on mine is my exposed radiator area is only 19w x 16h. Champion makes a nice 3 tube aluminum radiator with a 16" Spal fan; I'm going to call them on it. They claim it cools up to 450hp, well above my motor.
I think you are on the right track / a 450hp rating is likely rated on how much gas your beast 302 can pump through the engine on a spirited drive - thus - I think Champion likely figured that in with their 450hp rating. IMHO - Both Ford 289/302 (& Chevy 283/302/327) are the best American V8's ever made. Its a balance of rev ceiling and torque / also -SPAL makes EXCELLENT fans - I have a few of them now / good luck with your build Tony!
Whats your new mpg with this setup? Ive got a stock l48 in my 75 and getting 10 (holley 650 vac secondary carb thay could probably use some work on jets but runs pretty well)
@@grantimbrock I will let you know as soon as I run a tank through it. I am hoping to get it running in Aug. I gutted the car, all new electrical, suspension, transmission (4R70W 4sp auto), rebuilt 8" rearend with posi, added AC. So, it's been a lot of work but getting close. Tony
I had no clue Edelbrock had a kit like that, with the tablet. I'm not one for classic American engines too much, but the fi and the tuning kit seem very impressive. And the video was great too.
Great video. Wiring is definitely a tricky part of any build and there are SO many options for every section and peice of a builds wiring. This is one of the better group of tips. You could make a numbered list of wiring tips like this for retrofitting vehicles very massive, but you seem to know your way around summarizing information concisely. Really impressed with this one. I look forward to keep seeing videos from you on general problems you've solved, like this one was in many ways.
Great video and great build! 👍. Did the same work on my Mustang 69 and the system is truly great! 2years in now and have not one single issue… Tried both Sniper and Fitech before and those was horrible.
Dude....thank you a ton for documenting your work!!! Ive been debating whether or not to do certain things and which direction to go. This really nails things down. 👍👍
Outstanding video, you are so calm and patient, makes me nuts, I am ADHD, OCD and a touch of Asperger's so I run fast 100%. But very well done Love the dash more like the C2 which was my favorite. All great choices, Need to see power numbers???? D
I watch all of this build and you did a great job but the dashboard should have stayed. They make electronic tachs to replace the distributor drive. I built a 74 with a big block 427 and it was a beast with the stock rear and Muncie trans but I fully agree with you about the roller cam, as I wiped out 3 lobes soon after I finished.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. TOTALLY AWSOME VIDEO!!! TOTALLY AWSOME EDUCATION. I AM THINKING ABOUT THE EDELBROCK PRO FLO FOR THE EDSEL. AND I NEED TO REWIRE IT ANYWAY. SO WHY NOT DO A TOTAL UPGRADE. So I HAVE ALL THE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE FUTURE. AND YEAT GREAT DAILY DRIVER TECHNOLOGY. I LOTHE UPGRADES ON YOUR CORVETTE!!! GREAT VIDEO AND THANKS FOR SHARING!!!! I LEARNED SO MUCH.
thanks for the nice comment John / glad you like the videos. The Proflo4 has been great / really happy with the final product and it definitely is a better daily driver now.
@TacoJoe Now that you've done this to the Vette are you going convert the Cobra to EFI? I think when I learned carburetors as a mechanic (Mid 90s), we were some of the last generation of Mechanics getting formal hands on training for carburetion. I like the idea of a simple carb setup but worry I will get frustrated with it, for the reasons you have mentioned in the video.
Thanks for the comment taduse - as for EFI on the next Cobra motor: We will see! First I'm going to get the short block put together and then I'll figure out these details :)
Great job!! I have the same setup, 70 Chevy C20 with the tank behind the seat. BUT....I have a sub pump (aaaahhh) I need a electronic fuel pump but not sure what I should get. Please let me know. Thanks!!
You can do it! / the external pumps are decent, but in-tank typically is better if you have access. I have another car with an external Carter pump and it works great/no starvation issues -but- it's only 8-10pcs. If you go external, try and go brushless if you can / they last longer. Thanks for the comment!
I enjoyed this series so far. You said that you are not going deep into suspension modifications. The car would look good 1 1/2 to 2" lower and coil over shocks are not that expensive.
The kit distributor controls timing - basically there is a long flat that covers 50-60degs of sweep and the ecu picks advance based on vacuum/fuel/o2 readings, etc - thanks for the comment
Well. Very Nice work, but after I saw the first video, I did expect more from the others. And how about that performance. What happend to 0-60 time and quarter mile time.😢 and how come you did not lower the car and buy new wheels, as you planned to.
still in the works Peter / thanks for the comment - wiring up lights/horn/radio as we speak, finishing the dash with a new look (stay tuned) and will finish with some new wheels all around
Are you able to send links of items you used when converting your C3 to EFI. Electrical components, fuel tank, pump, vent, etc. I’m planning to do the conversion as well as rewire and this will be extremely helpful.
I'll see if I can put something together. To get a head start though, visit the Tanks Inc website....www.tanksinc.com / you can get a retrofit EFI tank for your classic car and they have kits which include the pump / sender / etc. Good deals and nice tanks too. Pump I used was a Walbro 255lph
no - both holley/edelbrock are pretty adamant that only one is needed -but- it should be at/after the collector to make sure you get good exhaust mixing/etc - thanks for the comment!
I'm planning on doing an EFI kit on my C3 and I'm wondering if the O2 sensors would be a pain since the headers sit so close to the frame rails or if it's gonna clear.
not a big deal - you can purchase collectors with the O2 bung already welded in and then position it however you like it (ie- you can rotate it 360 degrees) - good luck and thanks for the comment!
The mufflers are OEM replacement type (typical baffled w/insulation) - Flo-masters are the way to go though. I actually had some home made echo cans on a Chevelle I once owned - basically they were 2 steel boxes with 2 v-baffles welded in-line - sounded EXCELLENT and were back-fire proof. Thanks for the comment!
You should try this on a 1970s Cadillac with a big block. I've always wondered how much power does 502s could get if you just swapped out the fuel and engine management components.
I've been comparing which Holley EFI to get, but it's nice to see someone using the Edelbrock EFI. Can you tell me a little more about your fuel system? Did you modify a new c3 gas tank or an EFI tank already providing baffle and holes for fuel pump assembly etc? what fuel pump assembly bracket and fuel sender did you use? Thank you! Great video w shots of the Corvette. Job well done!
Hi Jim- I purchased a tank from Tanks Inc and a walbro 250 lph pump from summit. The tanks are nice and have baffles around the pump. I bought the sender from Tanks Inc too - its a nice setup and my only gripe is the sender float area is limited with the C3 specific tank -thus- when you get to 1/4 tank you can drop to 1/8" 10 miles later -lol. Check out their website / lots of specific kits for classic cars and good luck with your build!
Hi, I’m new here. I have the same FI kit that I’m also going to install on our 76 C3. Did you ever consider going with the Edelbrock fi sump kit? Great video by the way!
Hey Taco Joe, Very nice job on the wiring. Three years ago I installed a fitech on my C3, I've had nothing but problems. One of my problems I had was hood fitment and now I want to change over to this system pro Flo 4. Did you have any fitment issues with your hood? I don't see myself investing 1200 to 1500 for a new high rise hood. Trying to keep it looking stock.
No big issues / did have a minor issue with an airflow whistle/howl on the intake that I fixed by adding a spacer under the throttle body / other than that its been great - thanks for the comment!
In the beginning you said the kit includes everything, but then the rest of the video is the things you needed to add. Unless you get the kit that includes the fuel sump then you have to plan on a high pressure pump and feed. I wasn't clear on what all of the relays you had were for.
I went with the 35760 - I don't know what the difference is with the 35770 but if I could go back in time: I think I would have got the intake with the vortec provisions - is even harder to torque the intake builds with the fuel rails there. No huge regrets though / runs great & motor is strong - thanks for the comment!
I got the 29lb/hr injectors - in hindsight: pretty sure the motor could easily handle the 35lb/hr - might need to upgrade these at some point / thanks for the comment!
haha- yes sir, not a bad path. I didn't want to mess with the steering hydraulics/valve (I think an LS needs a special oil pan) - in hindsight, maybe should have gone this route though. Thanks for the comment!
