It's the whistling after the book line and the sideways glance at the audience which gets me. Victoria knows it's the funniest line in the song, and she's going to milk it...
She created her own league, a cut above every other comedian, and she stayed up there, and probably still will until all of us are dead. Never replaceable, never to be surpassed. RIP, Victoria, None shall ever be missed as much as you.
+gadge roberts Same here, I never laughed so much as I have at this. Victoria at her best. If there is a heaven and a happy corner in it, I want to go there and watch Victoria forever.
One of my favourite quotes (she's in a discussion with a BBC suit) "Don't tell me what will and won't work on television. I KNOW what will work on television - that's why I'm on television and YOU'RE NOT !"
@@nettils5555 I'm sure you're right and I apologise for wasting your time with a story which I found amusing and indicative of Ms Woods' character. Thank you for pointing out the error of my ways - I have seen the light and have erased all affection I ever had for her. She wasn't all that good, was she ? Just a bloody chancer. Thank God more level heads stopped her making a fool of herself.
Absolute genius! Like someone else said "what a gift to give the gift of laughter" even after she's not here anymore! She truly was one of life's observers, then used her observations in her work.
This is fantastic, this is just super talent, amazing, like nothing else, Victoria Wood was a huge talent, my goodness, what a massive sunshine she was to this world and how much poorer we all are without her, gd bless you Victoria, miss you so much.😢
@ no, and I was aware that line wasn’t ok. But I put in the context that a) this was in the ‘80s and b) she was singing a character, not as herself. But no I didn’t like that line. But the rest of the song felt worth ignoring that
Shocked & saddened at yet another famous name that I grew up with that has been taken from us far too soon. Thank you Victoria and thank you You Tube for letting us pay our respects in this way. R I P lovely lady.
Goodness I miss you dearest Victoria. I watched you from your earliest comedy shows to your acting career and in particular Housewife number (was it) 42. This song made me laugh like a drain the first time you sang it. Always you’ll be loved by me and the Bugs Man. Jan 2020
Absolute genius. How did she know that Abergele is a funny place and that rain hoods are hilarious and that Mussolini would be funnier than, say, Adolf Hitler or Hermann Goering? Just wonderful. Thank you Victoria 💔☹️
@@Mishima505 just here to say Adolf Hitler is four syllables and doesn’t work in the slightest. It’s more than that… it’s very clever it both “sounds” funnier and is the type of character detail she nails all the time. Pam would abhor Hitler… but Mussolini he was ok.
OK, so I know "Let's Do It" is regarded generally as her finest and funniest song, but I laugh at no lyric in her back catalogue as I do "I've seen one in a book and I was not impressed."
To me, the archetypal Victoria Wood line is "no woman over forty suits a mauve string vest" as it has that perfect coincidence of the surreal with the everyday that marks out her genius with the English language and social observation.
I'm imagining the late, great Victoria Wood crying with laughter as she wrote these lyrics. What a woman.
Clever lyricist. Clever pianist. Clever lady. Sad loss.
"I've seen one in a book and I was not impressed" hahaha, she's awesome
'wore army boots and braces but I didn't think twice' never fails to make me laugh- along with, ' he tried to take my rainhood off, I said No way'
It's the whistling after the book line and the sideways glance at the audience which gets me. Victoria knows it's the funniest line in the song, and she's going to milk it...
In my opinion, it's her finest song! Love it so much and never get tired of hearing it. Thanks for the laughs Vic ❤
I concur
Thatis my view also! It's even better than the Ballad of Freda and Barry
@@jmack8767 oh it's tight... "Not meakley, not weakly, neat me on the bottom with the woman's weekly!"
I feel so sad when I watch this, gone before her time
She created her own league, a cut above every other comedian, and she stayed up there, and probably still will until all of us are dead. Never replaceable, never to be surpassed. RIP, Victoria, None shall ever be missed as much as you.
No-one will ever come close to her ❤
I hadn’t heard this one before ....she is badly missed as so clever! Her facial expressions are superb...VERY British humour. Fabulous
She drained her Rum n Baby Sham, Run her fingers through her crew cut said I love u Pam ! My fav lyric
She truly is head-and-shoulders above any other comedian... and has consistently been for decades.
I keep getting waves of sadness but then I watch a clip and end up laughing my pants off. What an amazing gift to give to the world. XXX

RIP Victoria Wood such a talented woman who will be sorely missed.
RIP, she was the first celebrity I was genuinely sad when she died
I adore Victoria Wood, I remember finding her vhs videos in the front room when I was about 9, hooked ever since. She is the queen of comedy.
My favourite thing. So unfair that she's gone. Rest in peace sweetheart and thanks for the laughs. xx

Well, we all watched this, laughed and than shed a tear..or two..Thanks Vic, love ya xx
Sorely missed a very talented and amazing performer back in the days when Britain tv was worth watching god bless Victoria Wood
I can't even say the name 'Pam' without thinking of the way Victoria Wood says it. I was brought up with her humour. A very sad loss :-(
@XML studios She delivers the whole song in a tone that typifies a certain kind of woman.
Not her awful bosoms but her magnificent CapiaDimonte
@xmlstudiosif you know you know, if you don't well, that's god's way of telling you you have no sense of humour
"Ive seen one in a book and i was not mpressed!" Best line in the song
Once in a generation Comic ,writer, all round entertainer . will be missed . Sad day . R.I.P Victoria Wood. You made us laugh & cry for 40+ years .
HOW have I only just discovered this? It's bl00dy HILARIOUS! R.I.P, you goddess.

Absolutely brilliant. RIP Victoria.
I'd forgotten all about this song, one of my favourites, made all the more amusing by the fact I grew up in Abergele :)
Victoria Wood - they don't make them like they used to!! She is a proper star!!
Feeling so very sad today that we have lost her. She always made me smile and l loved her in " Dinner lady's. "

Just marvellous. Sorely missed.
this song is so hard to keep time with, respect to the dearly departed Victoria Wood
@@nettils5555 just me then
Still coming back to this after all those years, as guaranteed to make me laugh! Thank you Victoria! x
Just found this, and as an asexual person, was so in awe that she was singing about asexuality before there was even a word for it!
Do you also think that Mussolini had the right idea?
@ no, and I was aware that line wasn’t ok. But I put in the context that a) this was in the ‘80s and b) she was singing a character, not as herself. But no I didn’t like that line. But the rest of the song felt worth ignoring that
@@jaynetreby9398 I was just joking, I didn't mean it as an accusation. Obviously it's just part of the comedy.
Asexuality is nothing new. It’s been around since dawn of humanity and probably before. What planet are you from?
And how the audience laughs - and we’re still laughing at Victoria and at you
This song puts me in stitches every time I listen to it. Absolutely hilarious.
She was brilliant.
Such a loss.
She’s so bloody funny ❤
What can I add....? You have made me laugh for most of my life....Rest in Peace my lovely.....

She knows about Abergele because Norther people always seem to gravitate towards Wales for their holidays.
