EXCELLENT video! Doing a little bit of studying here. I’ll be replacing the CP4 on our 2017 F450 wrecker this week, got towed in behind our (thankfully) already CP3 converted RAM wrecker for a lack of power, then died while idling. Fuel filters are full of metal. Trying to tell my boss (a retired Ford master tech, did most of his work on 6.0s) that you can’t just replace the pump without having a repeat failure, as I’ve done this job on a couple LML Dmax trucks from my days at the dealer. Hopefully this hammers that fact home, as much as it sucks for the downtime of the truck and profit losses, it beats having to do everything a second time.

Very well done video on this project! Thank you. What did you see on the computer to follow this repair? I have 2012 and died on the road with no start, p0087 code. I thought cp4 for sure, pulled vca/vcv on top of cp4 and clean as a whistle no metal so I replaced it, also looked at the PCV on driver side fuel rail also clean as a whistle, replaced it as well. Only getting around 300psi actual with almost 5000 desired. Also put gauge on low side before engine mount filter and had 54psi. Not sure where to go from there.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hate to think about the possibility of mine going out, but at 255k I figure its bound to happen at some point. I would like to do it myself but my expertise doesn't extend far beyond repairing tractors and bigger equipment, which is typically much less complex than my 6.7. Just general ballpark if you don't mind me asking, what did this fix cost the guy? The workmanship and quality you put into your work would definitely make it worth whatever the costs associated with paying you to do it would be.

After doing any amount of research on Bosch CP4 high pressure fuel pumps why would anyone buy a vehicle with one? Why does Ford continue to use it? Both GM and RAM no longer use a CP4. GM quit using a CP4 in 2017 and switched to a Denso HP4. RAM went to a CP4 in 2019 and 2020 and after mass failures are now recalling those trucks and switching back to a CP3. Do truck buyers blindly purchase without any research? I don't understand. Ford is great if you make money fixing the garbage they make.

The 6.7 PSD was designed around that cp4. Nothing else will fit in the valley of the 6.7 but the cp4. That’s why you can’t use a cp3. I have a lot of 6.7s come in with 300k+ miles on original pump. There is another option now which is the new DCR pump.

@@AutomedicGarage I understand the space limitations of the 6.7's valley and non available space for a different pump. My question to Ford (they won't answer it) is why did it take the aftermarket to manufacture a replacement pump? Why did Ford Motor Company not do it? Would that admit fault on their part? I am a retired mechanic with 35 years on the job and your video is excellent and I'm sure will help many unfortunate enough to own a 6.7 with this issue. my 2015 f250 needs this done to it, CP4 blew out about 2 months ago w/280K (yeah I drive a lot--DFw to Houston to Austin at least once a week sometimes twice). Luckily, I have my previous truck-2011 Ram 6.7 for back up. I am wanting to do the DCR and new rails/ injectors/lines etc, but I am wondering why it is necessary to drop the tank and clean it? with a new lift pump and the disaster prevention kit and both of the new stock filters, how would any of that glitter make it past those three filtration points? Also, with 280k, should I also replace the turbo coolant fittings or possibly the turbo too? I would hate to have to go back in there within the next couple of years for something I could have done easily while in there.....

What’s your honest opinion on the disaster kit? Maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t see how a filter can stop all that debris pushing at 29k psi. Maybe it will but I’m a little skeptical. If you would have paid attention and noticed I run a shop. It ain’t my truck. The customer brought his parts in and wanted them installed. I recommended a DCR pump and he said “no I’m good with that” I don’t give parts away and I can only do what the customer approves. And for what it’s worth I have a ton of customers with over 300k on their factory cp4. Is the dcr better, yes but like I said it ain’t mine. Lose the ego.
