Lyrics:
Inside everyone hides one desire
Outside no one would know
Danger close to edge of the knife
Safer not to let go
And while we miss chances
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes to time slipping away
No show Wednesday girl waits with the wine
She knows just what to say
While no one listens
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes and
We can talk to strangers
We are burning with the spark
And we can walk on water
We are tigers in the dark
We are burning
We close our eyes
Heroes never give into the night
He knows how far he can run
And as he surrenders
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes

"Oh, you're in a band? Cool! What do you play?"
"...wrench."
Hahahaha
Ahaha
Hey that’s crescent wrench!
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂☺️
Nice one!
Sinth, radio, a cup of coffe and my girl. Perfect friday at night in 80s middle.
19th February 2020 blasting out this banger. Why not?!
I feel like this should've been played in Goonies or something👌👌🔥
Goodbye Girl from the same album is a beautiful ballad. 2021!

I miss the 90 all the time
This was the 80's.

Ooh great song..🤩🎊❤️
This is cool

Godley and Creme (of 10CC) directed the video and decided to give Peter a wrench. Peter and Richard actually showed up in suits at the set but Godley and Creme wanted Peter to wear the clothing he wore on a daily basis (which, back in the day, was a vest and jeans) and smeared a whole lot of oil on Peter😂
Another brilliant eighties tune ?!
My wires been jawed after you smacked it with a nine iron but look at me!! Look how I managed 😮

Imagine being 80’s twisted on the Charlie & dancing with a wrench, those were the days

Why did I always think this was Level 42

He has so much soul in his voice…incredible singer. This band brings it every time.
I have met Richard and Peter.
Two of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. They havnt let fame get to their heads. They are so down to earth and always take time to chat with you
You're Aussie👍
They do seem humble and nice

It sure does, wow!
Aye me too, great memories of a great era
His voice is SO smooth. Like there are no cracks for higher or lower notes. He just transitions into it so smoothly.
+1 , very underrated vocally , had just enough of an edge to voice without sounding "rough"
The vocals weren’t a wrench at all!
I’ll see myself out….
I think Peter can hit notes like Robert Palmer, very good singer, listening to go west in 2021 😁🖤

Despite the chaos currently, the BEST is yet to come!
This song hits just as hard as it did when was I was a 14-year old starry-eyed teenage girl back in1984. Good times!!
I worked at Chrysalis Records in L.A. and am so proud of the wonderful music we put out. Staff loved GO WEST!
I'm just hearing this song for the first time at 26 years old. The 80s had some really really good music, crazy all these songs have existed for my entire life and even before and I'm just now hearin em.
@@supahdupahplayahmacknumbah1 Every decade produces some good music. The 80's had great bands. The 60's, of course had The Beatles, the Woodstock Nation music and Motown as well. The 50's had Frank Sinatra, and the Dick Clark Bandstand. The music is there and with UA-cam, ready to be heard. Glad you liked Go West and good listening to you!!
I also was born in 1970. The 80's was the best decade OF ALL TIME...I miss it so much....
i was a 14 yr old boy yes they were the best times..awesome time to have grown up in.
There aren't too many songs where every element is just perfect but this is one of them - but mostly what a vocal performance!
he's a plumber that just felt like taking a break and start singing with his wrench
Made me laugh :) I've often thought how odd it would be if people just started singing in musical fashion, in real life.. like at the office. People would be getting escorted out the door :)

The music from the 80's, made my high school years, special.

My wife and I saw Go West on their 1986 tour in Portland at the Starry Night (iirc). What a phenomenal live band! Pure energy and every bit as good as the cassette that I wore out. You had to be there. One of the most memorable bands I've seen live up close and personal.
So
What was the lineup
Which was?
I miss My Go West cassette 😢 too. Such great music♥️.
Starry Night in Portland, OR was a special venue. I saw Echo and the Bunnymen there, as well as Psychedelic Furs. Devo, too.
Such a classic, quintessentially 80's song! So, glad I grew up during this time!

This music video is so 80s I fucking love it!!
80's music will always be best music by far . Takes me back to good times ♥️♥️♥️
Came out in 1985, sounds just as good 37 years later.
This is a legitimate great song, great video (Directed by Godley and Creme) and is one of many forgotten gems from the 1980's.
It is as great as anything that came out from that decade, and it was the best decade ever for music.
I'll say.
I wish they made music like this now
This is a great song, but I'm sorry.. the 80s is one of the worst ever decades for music.
@@JackWilkos The 80's is one of the worst ever decades for music, your very much in the minority there Jack!
If that was the case also why is there so many films/TV shows, TV Documentaries, over past 15 years set in the 80's!
3 music channels on TV dedicated to just 80's music, there were so much different styles of music in the 80's!
From Indie, Alternative, House, Pop, Rock, Pop/Rock, Reggae, New Wave, Heavy Metal, Rap, etc......
almost brings me to tears , damn i miss those days, i feel sorry for the kids today never knowing the life we had back then
Yes it makes me sad to know I can only experience those days through movies and music. But at the same time, I feel grateful that we at least have that because without movies and music those times would truly be lost! Only living on in the memories of those who were there.
It also brings tears to my eyes...in my hometown, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic🇩🇴🌺we went to different clubs, especially on matinee Sundays! Those clubs were by the Caribbean sea; and this song is so part of those memories.
My 9 year old daughter thinks the 80s rule. We break out the Tears for Fears, Nik Kershaw, Go West, etc on an almost daily basis. Current pop music is abysmal by comparison. I'm glad I can show her what real music sounds like.
I take a slight inspiration from 2112 Rush because I wish I could be in a band and atleast be remembered before I pass away but I listen so I can feel it

I closed my eyes while driving and woke up at the bottom of a canal. I was medically dead for three minutes and spent a month in hospital with multiple fractures. Whenever I hear this song, I remember the terrible pain, the years of physiotherapy and how my girlfriend left me.
she's a pos then. Many fish my bro, many many fish
And still here to tell about it. I’m glad…
Every once in a while, there's a perfect tune that comes along --- that checks all the boxes in your head, from melody, to lyrics, to the character of a voice... to even the corniness of a music video (albeit a dated marker for the era), that makes a song timeless. This one's for me. There are other songs I like a lot, but I can listen to Peter Cox sing "We Close Our Eyes" on a loop for hours. Don't need to analyze it. Don't need to dissect it. It just works. As someone said below, and I agree. It's... a masterpiece.

Just wield the wrench
best do it when they are NOT HOME🤫
Peter Cox: what have we got in the prop department?
Director: ...ummm, there's a wrench. Not sure it's a prop, I think that guy over there was using it.
Peter Cox: it'll have to do. How much should I wave it?
Director: yes.
He has a very big wrench LOL ;-)
L M A O!
Apparently he had the wrench because he couldn't play guitar .
The directors were Lol Creme and Kevin Godley. The greatest musical artists you have never heard of.
I like to think that Peter Cox just walked on set with that wrench and the director just went 'eh, let's run with it'.
The video was directed by Godley and Crème who made a lot of videos at that time. They even made a video for 10 CC, the band they were once part of. I remember them telling about the video for Go West that the thing he is carrying the whole time was very heavy. That was why he was sweating so much.
This is such a great song. Pure 80s excellence.

This song has a reference to Wednesdays child.
Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace.
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
And the child born on the Sabbath days bonny and blithe, good and gay.
It also refers to gnostic beliefs that jesus when he said he was the son of God meant we all were...

They didn’t produce as many hits as Hall and Oates by a long way. They aren’t in the same league. I was a teenager in the 80’s I wouldn’t agree.

Sheer excellence despite the trend of overproduction at the time. One of the best records of the 80's.

I don't know if you've ever seen the discography...there's a great deal of material they've done over the years. I would say pretty much all of it is good too.
