This isn't pop. This is R&B. It is a straight 70s retro throwback to 70s R&B. The layers in this song are so skillful and beautiful. They nailed it from the beautiful sepia tones to the clothes to the sound to the movement coordination of their music playing.
The intro to the song that most people seem to be skipping over has straight pure funk soul virtuosity with Bootsy Collins on the intro. If you want so have a good listening adventure really go and listen to 70s R&B music. You've got so much there that will open your horizons a little bit wider with the Ohio Players, Faze-o, The Floaters, and so many other bands. I think you guys would have a good time with that alone. You really need to look at the genres that you're assigning. This has nothing to do with the 80s and 90s. I'm glad you guys are having a good time and you're watching different stuff. Keep having a good time, keep listening and keep watching.

Hi Citizenesse! Thanks for commenting! Bruno Mars started out in the pop industry so that’s probably why the comment was made about it having the pop “feel”. But it was said that it had the motown feeling & it was true R&B - @ 12:54. Thanks for watching & we appreciate your input!

I thought it was ironic to say it was too pop and you needed it to be more R&B. It was the epitome of old school R&B. They followed the blueprint starting with the drum roll in the beginning, heavy reverb on the bridge vocals, dry drums, to the fade out at the end. Glad you all enjoyed it nonetheless.

Not enough variety? There are multiple rhythm changes, key changes, and at least 30 different chords used in this song. This would be difficult for anyone but skilled musicians. Most hip hop and pop songs are nowhere near this complex and certainly don't use live instrumentation.

I appreciate your reaction to the song. However, you misplaced the Era where this music comes from. You're correct that this is a motown-influenced song. The Era that this comes from is the 70s.
The moniker of "Pop[ular]" music only means that elements of the songs are appreciated by listeners across different genres.
The lyrical styles are lean with it, rock with it style rap, Soul/R&B along with a touch of Doo-wop.
You guys need to get more exposure and clarity on music eras and how music sounded through each of them along with who the contributors to the Era were.

The guy in the white shirt has a better understanding of what the song is about. The song is talking about preparing for a intimate night together, and how he’s getting ready for it. All she has to do is come over. She doesn’t have to knock when she arrives because he will “leave the door open”, all she has to do is walk through...
Bruno is not a pop singer, he’s an all singer. He can sing many genre, but actually R&B suits his voice perfectly.

I love your reaction to this song, your love of the music! Men of
younger generations...this is what real "panty dropping" songs sound
like - unlike what I hear in rap music of today. It's time to UP your
    game fellas...lol.
When it comes to sex..."Men are like microwave ovens (Quick to start)
and we women are like regular ovens (take time to heat up)". Fellas, if
you want to up your game you need to engage our hearts and brains by
making us yearn for you, show us you'll cherish what we share with you,
and take the time to heat us up with some romancing vision through your
sexy words. We are not VISUALLY turned on like you men are. We are turned on
through your actions, words, touch. Check out the lyrics and vibe of this song...it brings all
those points across!! We women want to run into this room with the door
open after hearing BRUNO and ANDERSON paint such lovely moments of what can be.
Everything in the studio is from the 1970s...the furnishings, carpets,
colors, disco ball lights, equipment, instruments like the tambourine -
even the reel-to-reel shown in the opening...all 70's vibe. The clothes
they are wearing including on the girls, even the hairdos - vintage
'70s. The "La la la la la" done by Bruno in the chorus and the "Woo Woo
Woo" done by Anderson.Paak is a classic 1970's Motown sound as is the
fade out of the song at the end. Although I am 63 years old and grew up
with what I think was the best music of my generation, the 60's, 70's
and 80's, I am still in my 30’s in my mind, heart, and spirit due to
this kind of music. This song has such a great vibe!!!!! I sort of feel
bad for the younger generations as most of their songs don’t evoke
romance, yearning for someone, fantasizing of what could be… I sure
am glad young folks are making such great music again and that younger
people are getting the chance to listen and appreciate real singing.

Just in case you clowns don’t know who the producer of this album is. It’s Bootsy Collins. A living legend in funk. Started with James Brown in the early 1970’s and later with one of the greatest funk bands of all time. Parliament-Funkadelic. This album spend an evening with Slik Sonic is gonna be epic. For those of us that grew up in this era of music we all feel it’s the best era ever. No other compares to it. When these albums dropped we knew they were gonna be amazing. We didn’t need to hear a few songs we just knew by the artist that it was definitely worth buying and there was gonna be mega hits one right after another. Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak along with Bootsy Collins masterfully knowledge of this era of music this album is gonna by woke and lite. The intro song is already out as well.

Brunos voice is more r & b not pop...

Pop?? You guys have no idea what r&b is. The crap that’s been on the radio for a couple of years is not r&b with an exception of a few artists. This is real r&b. It doesn’t get more r&b than this. Nothing about this is pop.

Hey Carrie! Thanks for commenting! This is the guy in the white! The comment was made at 12:54 that this was true R&B and had the motown feeling. Bruno started out in pop, so that might be why the comment was made about it feeling like pop. Thanks for your input & appreciate you watching!

Please please do your research on this type of music. All of you guys lack of knowledge for this era of music sure does show how young all of you are. First this isn’t POP it’s Funk and soul and true R & B. Something that is truly lacking in music today. Groups like the temptations, stylistics, Isley Brothers, The O’jays, The Four Tops, Sly and the Family Stone, The Jackson 5, The spinners, The Chi-Lites, Earth, Wind,&Fire, The Delfonics, The Manhattans, The Dells, Ohio players, Sister sledge, The Staple Sisters, Chic, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles and The Commodores. There are so many more that I didn’t list. These groups definitely Motown back in the 50’s to the 80’s. For you three that don’t have a clue about the meaning of this song. What this song means is he is trying to get her to come over for a romantic evening. His prowlness in the bedroom and ability to take care of her needs. When she comes over he’s gonna show her a really good time. You guys explanation is completely off bases. Shows how little you really know about impressing a lady. This is old school seduction
