(But UA-cam had to disable the annotiations, so I never got to see the fully translated dowolf Version). So, because both of them were giving different fan made names I just stuck to the original Japanese Version. 😁 And I was right to do so because it's weird when everyone uses the fanmade names like they were official but the Original ones aren't even known by majority. Paul Holic/Isaku Hyoudou is his first official name. Aside from my own preferences, some of the names were just too simple IMO. I mean, "Shimon Aizawa" sounds definitely way cooler than "John Marsh". 😅
@@Teknanam Those names are the right level of ridiculous though. Their first names are perfectly normal. How many people would name their kid Excelsius?
Eh there is honestly lot of "its not the one I saw first, so its worse!" for lot of these reactions. (sometimes it can be true, but I've seen lot of danganronpa fantranslation fans who hate official translation while most people nowadays have seen official first and thus don't have such strong opinions x'D)
@@debastiansebeste Ye, that's fine and all. I feel same regarding some of the old names, but in my case its purely because its what I got used to. My entire hatred of digimon dub names is based on that xD (screw Myotismon, Vamdemon is where it is at ;P)
It's because they can't. Fan translators actually have some legal rights to their work, including name changes not taken straight from the original script. Capcom would had to have made a deal with the team to use their work, but from what I understand, most, if not all, of them have vanished from the Internet. They avoided the fan names because they legally could not use them.
As mentioned, that's legally dubious territory and the fan translation team no longer exists. Capcom would have to spend time and money trying to track them ALL down to secure approval. For if JUST ONE person isn't contacted and they had a hand in any of the fan names, they could come back and sue Capcom in some way. It doesn't matter that Capcom would probably win. Capcom doesn't want to be in court at all for something so stupid. And the easiest way to not get themselves sued by some opportunistic smuck is to just not use the fan names.
@@Teknanam allow me to have some doubt here. The fan translation team made names for an IP that doesn't belong to them, they invented no new words for said names and they never trademarked any of said names (which they couldn't even if they wanted to, since they're names used in an IP that doesn't belong to them). The "legal" consequences get thrown around a lot by the fanbase but they're way more inexistent than people make them seem
@@debastiansebeste Are we SURE that absolutely none of those names have been trademarked in anyway? And I'm pretty sure its a grey area when it comes to blatantly using fan creations even if its just full names. After all, if it was so open-shut that Capcom had nothing to fear, there'd be a court case to reference where some big company just took fan creations without crediting or compensating anyone and the court asserted their right to do so. But I doubt such a case exists. The main thing is no matter how small the potential legal consequences would be for a company as big as Capcom, Capcom would prefer the path of no potential legal consequence. Most companies are like that.
@@debastiansebeste Hey, you're entitled to your opinion, but I can still poke fun at it because that's what randos in comments like me do. Personally, the only bad name in the official version for me is Eustace. Most of the other names I've seen so far range from decent to amazing, even if there are some that I still prefer dowolf's names over.
@@CountShaman to be honest, by now I'm mostly used to Eustace and ready to accept it (though I still find "Debeste" to be way superior to "Winner", I'd easily roll with "Eustace Debeste" xD). Same goes with most of the other secondary characters, like Tabby Lloyd and Simeon Saint. But Raymond Shields, Blaise Debeste and Kate Hall are the three names that I like way too much to ever accept as "Eddie Fender", "Excelsius Winner" and "Judy Bound" 😅
Capcom simply decided to officially localize AAI2 to english aftet a whole 14 years of its release. The names we knew until now were made by the fan translation team that translated the name to english on its own 10 years ago. Obviously (and unfortunately) Capcom couldn't use fan-translated names, so they came up with their own
As one who has no attachment to the fan names and never did play the fan translation, the official names we got are at worst perfectly fine. At the same time though I totally get why some wouldnt be on board with them because of their attachment to the fan translation. Im just annoyed with the jerks on both sides who have to put down or demean the other for their preference, or stubbornly stick with the fan names out of sheer stubborness and being worked up over nothing.
@@myriadmediamusings there's nothing wrong or stubborn in sticking with the fan names or shifting to the new ones, as long as - as you said - either side is not trying to attack or force their preferences on the other side. And so far, *both* sides have been super hostile and toxic
@@debastiansebeste And this is why some people quit fandoms lol. But for real your vids popped up in my recommendations a few days back, but I had to hold off on watching because I was in the middle of AAI2-5. Now that I have finished I promptly watched and subbed. Great vids, especially your miniseries that tie everything together cohesively in a close-enough official way!
I remember when I/we all said it'd be Bernie Winner. It would've been dumb but it would've at least fit. Nothing could have prepared us for this tomfoolery.
The real question is "who let the murder convict keep his lighter while in prison" 0.00$ says either meekins, roland or dogen Yes, roland is in prison too. Does it matter? Probably not.
I feel so bad for Eustace. The former Sebastian at least had the "De Best" in his name to lall back on, and now Capcom has taken that away in favor of making him a Whiner. I mean, he had it hard enough as is with his dad always belittling him, and now this. I will always think of him as Sebastian DeBeste, no matter what. I did enjoy Excelsius/Blaise torching the newly minted Jack Sportsman. He's so full of himself, he deserved it!
Looks like someone doesn’t like to accept his new name, just like his son. But seriously, it’s like Capcom just took the fan name and injected it with more name pun substance.
Its more like they were looking at his Japanese first name (Bansai) and the pun that invokes with his Japanese last name (Ichiyanagi) which basically is "10,000 years number 1". They wanted a first name to invoke a similar arrogance with Excelsius which comes from Excelsus and Excelsior. Both meaning high, lofty, and excelling. The celsius invoking temperature/heat/fire is just a bonus.
From Blaise Debeste to “Excelsius Winner”…… 😕 I actually like their original names better, to be honest. Besides, why would “Winner” be a name? Who decided that?… Should have been “Champ” instead, like “Champion”. 🤔… Eustace Champ, and Excelsius Champ. Father and Son Champions would have worked, and that sounded better than ‘Winner’ for sure. If you think they mean the same thing, Miles Edgeworth would say “This is outrageous!” and Kay would say “If that’s true, how come we didn’t get new names?” Imagine the AAI2 name debate alongside characters sharing their opinion and reason altogether. But I still like their original names better. Capcom should kick somebody in the tushy for this. 🦶POW!
"Original?" when for all intents and purposes it wasnt? By that logic of original name, we shouldnt call him Blaise Debeste or Excelcius Winner, but Bansai Ichinayagi.

Paul Holic/Isaku Hyoudou is his first official name. Aside from my own preferences, some of the names were just too simple IMO. I mean, "Shimon Aizawa" sounds definitely way cooler than "John Marsh". 😅
I really doubt Blaise would ever get released from prison
If we're lucky
AA7/AAI3: "Somehow, Blaise returned"

Had a feeling he would react like this to that name. It does sound a bit imposing, but a tad too ridiculous even for this franchise if you ask me.
More ridiculous than Wendy Oldbag? Or Apollo Justice?
@@Teknanam no offence but unlike Excelsius Winner and Wendy Oldbag, Apollo Justice is a perfectly plausible name for a human being :p
@@Teknanam Those names are the right level of ridiculous though. Their first names are perfectly normal. How many people would name their kid Excelsius?
@@darkkirb206 How many people would name their kid "Deid Mann"?

@@jeffalexander5842 well, it entirely depends on when they swapped places throughout their entire lives
Well that's my opinion too, can't lie about it but I don't feel guilty about it either :p
@@debastiansebeste Ye, that's fine and all. I feel same regarding some of the old names, but in my case its purely because its what I got used to. My entire hatred of digimon dub names is based on that xD (screw Myotismon, Vamdemon is where it is at ;P)
This was funny. However, I always hypothesized that he created "Excelsius" on his own just to be as over the top as usual.
That would be a full repeat of "Sebastian chooses Eustace as his new name" from the previous vid tbh, so I preferred an opposite reaction this time 😅
I love jack personality, he is such a idiot.
why is the official translation team so hellbent on NOT using the fanmade names... This is ridiculous
Because they weren't official to begin with. It's as simple as that djajdjwjdjwjd
@@debastiansebeste
Are we SURE that absolutely none of those names have been trademarked in anyway? And I'm pretty sure its a grey area when it comes to blatantly using fan creations even if its just full names. After all, if it was so open-shut that Capcom had nothing to fear, there'd be a court case to reference where some big company just took fan creations without crediting or compensating anyone and the court asserted their right to do so. But I doubt such a case exists.
The main thing is no matter how small the potential legal consequences would be for a company as big as Capcom, Capcom would prefer the path of no potential legal consequence. Most companies are like that.
Well that was hot
The absolute copium from this community I swear lmao. As someone who doesn't like the name Blaise to begin with, I see this as a win.
Kinda hurts to be told "copium" by the animator of a masterpiece like Kyogre Livesey, but anyway 😔
Wait who’s his defense I wanna know
I heard his defense will be either John Doe or Place Holder 😇
@@debastiansebeste he’s screwed fr 💀
Could someone please explain the name change to me? I don't understand when or why that happened.
Capcom simply decided to officially localize AAI2 to english aftet a whole 14 years of its release. The names we knew until now were made by the fan translation team that translated the name to english on its own 10 years ago. Obviously (and unfortunately) Capcom couldn't use fan-translated names, so they came up with their own
@ oooooooh. I saw the official playthrough first, so imagine my confusion when trying to locate good fanfics on this game! 😂
@@ryanlukkarinen2603 yeah most fanfics you'll find with "Sebastian Debeste", "Blaise Debeste" and "Raymond Shields" :p

@@debastiansebeste DAMN IT
I feel so bad for Eustace.
To be fair, Sebastian picked it himself. The "Useless Whiner" bullying is what got him xD
I'm just baffled about the quality of these names. What, would Adrian Andrews be called Dependence Clumsity nowadays?
I actually like the name Excelsius Winner
Yeah, the fan translated names are better for the most part.
epci
🦶POW!
Fun fact
Winner IS an actual surname
"Original?" when for all intents and purposes it wasnt?
By that logic of original name, we shouldnt call him Blaise Debeste or Excelcius Winner, but Bansai Ichinayagi.
@@myriadmediamusings I've been saying this from the start, shifting to Yumihiko Ichiyanagi would have been the absolute victory for all sides and ended all fandom wars 💪
