Can we take a moment to acknowledge the amazing camera work here? :-D Dodging and keeping the right people in or out of frame successfully for over an hour is not easy.
Alyssa is so great at this. A truly underappreciated skill.
Amazing work
Yeah Alyssa! You do a great job keeping Kyle in frame while he is bouncing around.
One hour and eight minutes in basically a single take is an Ironwoman feat! And Kyle's final thoughts are poignant, and hopefully come to fruition soon.
Brava Alyssa!
I am not sure why people complain about the longer videos. They can skip ahead. This is like actually being there and saves us all the trip!
I love the longer videos when I have time to watch
100% agree
I ABSOLUTELY love when Kyle says how bad something is (justifiably so) around the companies reps and that awkward look they give from the side . And it just makes them better for it. Great stuff man!
Same!!! The poor old GM rep with the side-eye 😂😂😂
It’s arrogant and rude
@@bob15479 The truth is always the right answer. Feelings be damned bobby boy.
Alyssa is a boss for keeping this video on track while he roams around at random.
Can't believe you missed Hyliion booth showcasing the Karno generator. Karno can produce electricity at $0.07 per Kilowatt hour and can be used as part of electric range extender for trucking or in stationary applications. Please do a video on Hyliion Karno!
Is this UA-camr being paid to cover these techs cause he seems to be very knowledgeable for someone just mossy in the front door
Looked at their website, lots of words, not much info, specs or data sheets.
@@universeisundernoobligatio3283 Look at the interviews, conferences, etc.
@@AndriusRut
Where are the data sheets?
Where are performance numbers?
Lots of hype, my engineering sense says caution.
I doubt you can afford the equipment anyways. So no sense in fussing about it. For companies that can we’d like to hear what was said at the event for those who could not attend. Mandates are Comming fast and we must find a solution @@universeisundernoobligatio3283
Kyle is the people's EV advocate. Great to see
There's something so therapeutic about the long format videos :) Thanks for the vid Kyle! This show looks awesome.
Not sure who would complain about a long video. I love it. Keep them long. 😆
OK boys and girls, you know what time it is. It's time for the "Kyle says EPIC Drinking Game"!!! I'm already wasted. 😵💫
I was thinking the same thing!
Everything is “insane” in Kyle’s world.
“I’ll have what he’s having” i really need to know how kyle has so much energy. I’m worn by all the info after 10 mins into the video.
I love long videos, please keep it like that, this is pro content and I appreciate your time and dedication. Long videos are awesome when the content is high quality, and you are.
I never heard of BEAM before this, and I really like their application with solar.
Fantastic Overview of the show. Check out Hylion Trucks Plug-In Hybrid and Hydrogen Trucks.
Zzzzzzzzz
Thanks for covering this, Kyle. So much of the negativity I see around electrification has to do with the viability in this space. It’s fascinating to see what’s being done…Especially with charging. Even if the battery packs can take, say, a 10 minute charge to full, you need a charger that can deliver that kind of power reliably.
Just BLOWN away. I just never realized how much is going on. GREAT video, thanks.
When you were around the Volvo’s in the background was Motiv, they take Ford P-57 chassis’ & make electric delivery trucks with them, my company bought 2 of them to dip their toes into electric delivery trucks. Unfortunately they weren’t spec’d with DCFC, so they’re limited to about 19 kW charging on the level 2 charging at work (even though my company installed a DCFC station also), and that means they can only go out once per day instead of 2 or more times. 🤦🏻♂️
Thank You for supporting ethical Plant-based food and for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ☮ ❤
You should make it to a Fully Charged Show Live sometime. They also have a wide representation of EVs and clean energy solution companies.
Have you seen any companies coming out specifically for trailering? I would think someone would want to build electric trailers with a battery skateboard platform. There would be two different lengths of trailer platforms upon which can be built multiple types of designs. Open bed for landscaping and construction companies; box trailers for moving, etc; horse trailers; and campers. The trailers would obviously plug into your ev truck/suv to provide extra range. However, automakers would need to have another charge port at the rear of the vehicle for the cables. I know, currently, battery packs are heavy, so that would eat into your trailing weight of your vehicle, but maybe when lighter weight battery technology ramps up, it'll be much more viable.
'...we also drove it uphill...first time ever...for a Nikola" - Kyle didn't miss a beat. Very funny 😆
i died laughing when I heard him say that.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I ended up in WOW mode! This was quite an education. Thank you
🎉🎉🎉🎉LET'S GO! YOU KNOW YOUR SHI-ELECTRIC! THANKS FOR SHARING &EING THERE FOR THE WORLD.
Great job! Very exciting to see everything and all the tech coming.
Watched till end and did not see you take one sip of your drink ?
May the 4th be with you
You missed one of the best and biggest techs of the show in Hyliion and their KARNO generator. Please do a vid on Hyliion and the tech while you're there!
Thanks for showing us everything.
Can you please give more context on the Hyliion karno ERX and it’s use as a stationary power supply? I didn’t hear it get covered much and I’m trying to get more clear information about it
That poor Acai drink was more neglected than my emotional health.
Couldn't make it this year, this was amazing. Thank you.
Impressed with your knowledge base. Good job.
What about Hyliion!? Heard great things
Thanks for the great video!
Let me guess, you, or someone you know, works there?
(Judging by the rash of "should check them out" posts)
Alyssa great work!
Love this tour video, magic stuff.
I volunteer in EMS. I can't wait for electric ambulances. They get driven very hard, with a lot of aggressive stop-and-go driving.
I saw very recently that the Los Angeles Fire Department has an EV fire truck now. Cool stuff!
@@yayinternets it is made by Rosenbauer, powered by Volvo Penta. Would love to see Kyle review it while there.
Great coverage. thank you so much!
How was Hyliion's booth? Not impressed?
Hi Kyle you need an air brake endorsement at minimum for those heavy duty trucks in CO which I believe is a 25 question exam after passing you get the endorsement.
Kyle, have you heard of PhiHong chargers? I just received training on them yesterday and I’ve never seen or even heard of them. My coworkers praised them for being some of the most easily serviceable EVSEs out there. They had level 2 and DCFC products.
Regarding the video length, as long as the video is full of quality content, don’t worry about the length. The TikTok crowd that can’t keep their attention on anything for more than 30 seconds will always complain about longer videos “not respecting their time” 🙄 Best to just ignore them and let them be tricked into stupid “life hacks”.
Brightdrop vans that are in production are the ~400V based architecture. The Hummer is 800V with a 2x ~100kWh (at 400V each) pack and is 800V with an active switch, and is only the case when DC fast charging, the rest of the HV systems are all at 400V. And if Bright drop is the same arch and at 100kWh, its 400V
I work in the EV Fleet charging space and couldn’t make it to this year’s conference so this video was exactly what I was hoping for! There is so much going on in the industry- billions of dollars pouring in, new products left and right, new people piling in. It’s a great time, but I also think a lot of companies won’t make it through because we don’t have all of the value/solutions figured out yet. Thanks Kyle!
Happy 5 de Mayo, Tequila Shot everything Kyle says "EPIC"... LOL.... Great video guys 😁
REE is awesome, they do in wheel drive trains for chassis trucks, all four corners independent and on site replaceable in under an hour. I can definitely see a future with them and I'd love to see more info on them.
What an epic walkthrough.
Tnks for the tour!
I have a mental disease that says that drinks have to be drunk quickly.
I just wish they would build charge stations similar to gas pumps, pull through with coverings and a store.
Truly excellent work!!!
at 1:03:30, I'm surprised you're not familiar with REE, they have a pretty brilliant setup in terms of fleet EV design. Would love to see you do something in depth on them.
Thank you for sharing! Please include your thoughts on Hyiion’s ERX and Karno.
Check out R3E or REE. Really Cool engineering product with the "corner"
Can you tell us about that new Karno tech with Hyliion? I heard they are looking at charging stationary application for the Karno generator. Pretty awesome tech!
@Kyle The same contact in Greensboro at Volvo should be able to get you behind the wheel of the Mack refuse truck.
A main market for the the EC230 is also refuse. For moving material around yards and landfills. So charging is not an issue there. That one was actually handed off to WM (Waste Management) later in the show. Even most construction sites (used to be IBEW) always have a temp pole. It is just a matter of specifying one to handle (limited draw at night normally). Part of the efficiency gains from going EV is similar to the concept of a gravity battery. By regenerating as you lower a load, you recoup energy also.
The terminal truck is for sea port terminals, not airports. Can also be used as a “yard dog” to move trailers around/between warehouse facilities. The company that makes them, Tico is also related to Volvo Group, by being powered by Volvo Penta. Both it and the Mack use a Akasol/Volvo NMC pack. Gen2 in Tico, 2 at 66kWh each. It is a brand new offering, with production just starting to ramp up. It will help the pollution at the ports, and the inland areas. That was the newest Mack LR it would be 4 packs at 94 kWh each. Just released also in March. Capable of 150kw charging. All are 600v architecture.
Would be nice to see if you could spend some time with a Tico while out there. Also, the city of LA recently took delivery of a Rosenbauer (a Volvo Penta powered Fire Truck).
Dennis UK is ow in USA, Dennis is the leading truck manufacturer Euroope and the UK.
Most famous for fire engines in Uk.
The grey on grey on grey is a vibe...
I love how you look over your shoulder before saying Mullen has the worst design 😂
"Super cool cable!" Love it.
You missed Hyliion? 😢
Cant wait for your Flo video.
Definitely interested in more on Eaton.
Looks like an interesting solution, particularly for apartments/condos.
Ive always thought Lev1/2 charging infrastructure is unnecessarily complicated and expensive.
Please test the Brightdrop, work at the plant. By the way we have flo level 2 at the plant for employee use installed by GM.
EPIC!
10:06 The stranger the better. This is why I like the CT.
One thing for sure, Epic coverage. No really, it was epic, very epic, quite epic.
Because this show is here in SoCal, I see much more Hydrogen trucks than I would expect in another market area. What I take as a first impression of the commercial transport sector is the "foot in the door" sales of the hydrogen solution. While Alyssa says it right in my opinion; that clean hydrogen would make sense in this usage, all it would take to make sure that does not happen, is for that one corporate brand you did not cover, But is seen in the distance, Chevron oil company(yes also Shell) to buy off the right politicians. I can only hope that does not take place, but the the real reason hydrogen cars are seen so much here in California and almost nowhere else, took place many years ago, and involved a certain Austrian Actor turned politician and something called "The Hydrogen Highway".
I was just there last month for NAMM!
I saw a Chevron sign in the backgrount. Charging stations at Chevron?
They're the Toyota "plug in chargers"
Dennis is a British brand of trucks. They build fire engines, and some rubbish collection companies here in Australia use them for rubbish collection.
Have you seen this?
“Kentucky has become the first state to mandate the inclusion of Tesla’s charging plug, known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS), in electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that receive state funding.”
24:00 glad to hear about the EA tour video review
23:18 I must still be in the grieving process...extremely sad and frustrating to be sitting here in one of my old Lightning eMotors work shirts, watching this and wishing the company had made the correct decisions to avoid bankruptcy!! Very unfortunate and so much of a wasted opportunity. It was an enjoyable and knowledgeable experience while it lasted. RIP Lightning eMotors.
Really missing the free charging while at work also!
Great job Kyle and Alyssa. Were there any wireless charging vendors there, such as Witricity?
KC mentioned the possibility of playing soccer with 20-30 Mullen ?electrics? (Donated by Mullen). I’m sure most people would love to see what in the world that looks like!!!
Everyone is waiting for Kyle to drop that red drink on that new carpet.
Great tour and video. I think you accidentally skipped Tritium and I was curious to see their NEVI stuff that’s being built in TN.
Great video. Did anyone keep a count of "Epic!" usage?
Very knowledgeable! Do you have any opinions on Hyliion's offerings?
Stopgap at best.
Already superceded.
I can see that. What about the range anxiety of OTR fleets, though? Hyliion seems to be the only offering to handle the OTR space.
A+
I thought at first Kyle was telling me Ford named their charging solutions the Ford Probe! LOL!
I worked on that hydrogen station out here in west Texas lol shit took forever to complete
Kyle (completely unaware of how many demonstrations he’s interrupting) tells Ryan “We’re right in the middle of filming”. 😂😂😂 No, just kidding. Love the video and I would have loved to be at this show! There’s a lot going on on this floor! Hopefully it’ll mean better electric tech for the near future. 👍👍👍
What are the states doing to increase the charging infrastructure through the money provided through the Inflation Reduction Act?
Could you check out the Hyliion ERX and Karno?
Great video, nice coverage, big miss on HYLIION KARNO/ERX, would be great if you have an opportunity for a deep dive on their revolutionary tech.
Where's Hyliion? 😪
Love EVGo due to their Autocharge+ option (plug in & walk away), wish Electrify America would allow everyone the option to use Plug & Charge (instead of just owners that get it through the manufacturers).
Check out Hyliion ERX and Karno!
One day the vendors will be transporting all their show stuff on ev trucks. I'm surprised that company with the ev chassis doesn't have one there that people can see and drive.
Anyway put the slurpee down and step away 😂😅
Fascinating vlog ty😊
Kyle, I think you should get your CDL. Don’t think it would be that difficult and it would be a good investment so you can operate these bigger vehicles.
under 26KLbs 2 axle is a class -c, so you can do without a CDL unless you work for hire
Are you going to the Fully Charged USA show this year?
50:00 How does Nikola still exist? Who would do business with them?
This guy is like the Huell Howser of EVs
Kyle can you do content on the ELEPHANT in the room: Gov is funding these companies to install charging across the US but who is going to use it in volume ? Most all new volume cars sold come with 2 or 3 years free charging with a specific company so why would they want to frequently stop at a charge company where they have to pay ? I’m not talking about the odd occasion where your “free” company is not represented etc. Teslas gonna most always go to Tesla. These companies get “free” money then sit with little or no business for 2-3 years while those vehicles with free charging cycle past their Free days. Most EVs currently are Teslas and will not use outside infrastructure that often, in 2-3 years are these companies going to still be around servicing the equipment? Gov does not permit free gas to be given away when a vehicle is sold. Why do they permit it with Electricity? How do entrepreneurs get started with EV charging business if the manufacturers are giving free charging to certain dedicated companies ? Business can’t reply on scraps. One day you open on a route where’s there’s no competition, a month later Tesla, EA, EVgo open near you, the respective vehicles with free charging will stop using you.
So nice to see Alyssa is back to OOS. Don’t understand why she left. Kyle needs to shed the hoody and wear a sports shirt w/jacket so his professionalism matches his knowledge.
Did you visit Canoo? They look interesting but don’t know much about their offerings. Seems like something OoSR would investigate.
The sponsor of this video? Starbucks! And Kyle didn't even take a sip! So now my question is, did you finish it or just toss it since the ice all melted?
The thought of hydrogen being used to charge a Tesla must be Elon’s worst nightmare 😂😂😂
Just demonstrates the "foolishness"
Makes it the least efficient Tesla (or other BEV) on the planet.
Someone should do an amend to end comparison measuring the amount of grid energy to move that same car the same distance as "straight" grid to car charging.
Those fleet managers buying hydrogen stations are setting themselves up for so many headaches. Already some hydrogen stations are being torn down because they have been a headache. Broken hydrogen stations is not a rare thing.
Get a Megapack or two, slap solar onto warehouses/distribution centers, then the new generation charging stations, it will be better for the longhaul.
I think they need to figure put how to charge these trucks while rhey are loading and unloading at the docks. I have seen trucks sit for a couple of hours while being loaded. Maybe some sort of crane arm that swings out from the building with a charging cable that drops down. Wireless charging would be the easiest, but charging speed would be the challenge.
Fun getting the speed tour of the expo.
Wow. I got tired just watching this video. Great job.
