I love kitbashing and converting. It's the one thing about model building that I wish I'd known about years ago. I stuck with Lego for a long time because I thought model building seemed to proscriptive. Once I found out that people were cutting models apart and bashing new parts on, I finally saw the appeal.
Aside from terrain making, kitbashing and converting is by far my favorite part of the miniatures and tabletop games hobby. Even when I was new to the hobby and terrible at it. I love making my little guys into little characters and making them special, that's why all the games I play are smaller scale skirmish games and that's one of the things I have loved about Lego for my whole life.
Reminds me of the "konverted" Big Shoota Gunner from the 3rd edition codex. The good old days. Back when you could MacGyver anything you wanted out of just the basic kit and junk!
The good old days indeed, and the classic double shoota barrel conversion. I’m still a big believer in macguyvering your way through life, especially with hobbying, modeling, and gaming
I started my Orks with two of the 9th edition Combat Patrols. This means 4 sets of monopose Boys. I grabbed one box of old Boys and one box of Nobz. Over several weeks I converted all the Boys so not only did none of them look alike but I didn’t lose any model in the conversion process and ended up with a number to make one set of pure Shootas and the rest Slugga/Choppas. No one should make the mistake of underestimating the lengths of work an Ork player is willing to put into an 8 point model to make them their own.
Yesss I'm happy to hear that! Even on the new monopose Ork Boyz, head and hand swaps are still an option for making them your own! Going to ridiculous lengths is the definition of an Ork player/Ork enjoyer haha
@@selrahcmoonandstar I'll have you know that out of the old Boys of that bunch I had 6 that were still only primed... well, I'll have to prime them again because they had a chiropractor appointment with Doc Basha.
Oh my goodness you’re right they’d be great for skarboyz! Right in between a boy and a nob. I am honored for people to loot and “be inspired by” (translation: steal) the things I make and share
I just do a blob of green stuff or milliput when opening poses, especially if I can just slap shoulderpads over it to hide the shame. But that's a neat trick with the cut wedges.
Shoulder pads would help a lot, and I've got some other tricks I'm working on to fill in the gaps and help hide the cut marks. I like the wedge trick to help it stay natural looking (as natural as Orks are)
Sprinkling some boyz with the re-angled legs, torso, and arms in with your regular boyz will help add some variety to your mobs. However, you didn't really address the cleaning up of the cuts in the end. It seems it would take some 'sprue goo' for the legs and torso, and some green stuff sculpting for the arms. Plus, likely, some bits to help cover the back of the torso.
That is true, I am planning to talk about filling those gaps in a later video! I have an idea for how to make it work cheaply and easily, but I want to be able to prime them after filling so we can see how it all comes together. For the Kommando looking boyz conversions, I’m planning to make some backpacks to sling on their backs and help disguise some of the conversion work as well I’m glad you think they’ll be good for variety! One of the best things about the old ork boyz is how you can individualize your minis and make so many unique boyz
Great video 👍 Some very helpful tips here that I'll be using to make my Lootas/Burnas stand out (literally) from my squads of normal Boyz...... Jist have to make sure I've got some sprue goo to help on those join lines 😁
made me laugh hard to hear "patient and controlled" while taking about Orks [which I still think of as Orcs] @ 6:43. Thanks for a walk down memory lane
Hahaha that's true, but for some of us the making and kit bashing and converting of the miniatures is by far our favorite part. Plus, you can always just convert ones you want to be notable, like a squad of Kommandos or some special kind of Boyz
Orks are love, their only desire is to spread their love of waaagh across the universe I love the multi kit, the customization is crucial for me and I’m working on more videos to show why
**Looks at unbuilt old Ork kits in my pile of shame** Well, I guess I know what I'm going to try and do with at least some of those once I get to them.
The pile of shame is eternal and in my opinion, it is SUPPOSED to last a lifetime until we perish buried underneath a cairn of plastic and cardboard terrain
Yay I'm glad you love it! I've tried some Mantic Goblins and Ratmen miniatures, and I really like how they both are, but I haven't tried any of their Orcs yet! I'll have to keep an eye out for some
Good tips. Ork approved! :)
Yessss thank you! Love to hear that
This video is a godsend for ork players, I would've never thought about this but it's so simple!!
Simple and impactful is what I aim for in all my videos! I'm glad you like it and thank you for watching and for your comment!

lol I love that, Doc Basha will be so happy to hear that
Well dang! That is a great conversion. I bet some sprue goo would fill in the cracks quite nicely!
Sprue goo would definitely help fill in the cracks and smooth it over, I'm glad you like the conversion thank you!
First 75 seconds was priceless
hehehe
That looks great!
I’m glad you like it! Thanks for watching and for your nice comment
That’s a cool look. Would work well for skarboyz. Consider it looted ya zogger.

Awesome videos and ideas. I have about 30 of the older Orks to put together and these tips will make them look great :)
Yay thank you I’m glad you liked it! Of course all Ork Boyz are good boyz, but which are the best boyz??
Omg, wish I had seen this sooner!
..... same ...... 😅
I'm glad you saw it now! I've been buying some old used boyz off eBay to experiment with and it led to this!
@selrahcmoonandstar I'm glad I saw it now too!! I can't wait to try this out:))

Sprue goo will definitely help, and I've got something else I'm working on that might help too

Hahaha thank you 😂
... must be Blood Axes!
It's all fun and games until you realize how many of those boys you'll need to convert for a 2k points army
Turns out converting hundreds of miniatures is the fun and games....
Hahaha that's true, but for some of us the making and kit bashing and converting of the miniatures is by far our favorite part. Plus, you can always just convert ones you want to be notable, like a squad of Kommandos or some special kind of Boyz
Yesss, converting 120 miniatures sounds like an absolute chore to some (the true war is the conversions along the way), and a joy to others!
Oi! I luv da vido keep krumping! Weird boy BASHA! ☠️☠️☠️☠️
Thank you for the support there's a lot more to come for this Waaagh
You love orks? So am I💚 the old Boyz got better pose customization than the new ones imo
Orks are love, their only desire is to spread their love of waaagh across the universe

Orks sticking out their gyatt 😭😭😭
Hahahah it is true
If your looking for cheaper alternative fantasy orcs with the same feel id suggest mantic kings of war orcs
Also I've been building my first Ork army this year so I loved this video
Yay I'm glad you love it!
I've tried some Mantic Goblins and Ratmen miniatures, and I really like how they both are, but I haven't tried any of their Orcs yet! I'll have to keep an eye out for some
Shocking? Nah. Orks are the best.
The best boyz
In some fantasy, orks ARE elves, so, sure! Not warhammer tbf... but still! Orks cool!
That is so true
