Might be a good idea to make a new, custom cover out of metal or something black. Could make it a bit bigger than the old hole just to keep out any moisture.
Yeh the factory tow hook is ugly af, anyone you talk to that installs one of these aftermarket hooks isn't afraid to admit that this is mostly to do with aesthetics.
Instead of paying $100+, another option would be to keep and use the factory tow hooks included but add these D-Rings with spacers for $23. This option not only ends up looking fairly decent, but eliminates the "ugly af" aspect. :-) (the link below is a straight Amazon link) www.amazon.com/YITAMOTOR-Shackles-Isolator-Shackle-Recovery/dp/B07C3N7F6Z/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=YITAMOTOR+Shackles+3%2F4%22+D+Ring+Shackle+with+Black+Isolator+Washer+4.75+Ton+9%2C500+lb+Off+Road+Heavy+Duty+Red+Shackle+Kit+for+Vehicle+Recovery+Towing+Stump+Removal&qid=1574405955&sr=8-1
If you are buying a Subaru 2019-> then it's the only way to get a decent powerplant but you can tow 5k lbs and it literally comes with its own OEM hitch receiver. The cool thing is that it will accommodate not only trailer brakes straight out of the box but both types of standard trailer pigtails. It's what I wanted my Forester to be, but the middle row seats can go - a nice powerful vehicle that runs on regular and gets like ~25MPG/avg. Our later model Foz XT gets about 22 average (close to 40MPG when we burned a tank solely on the highway, boxers are nuts with mileage and the CVT does magical things with the cruise control) but is a little beast! Needs some better meats! Keep publishing so I can install all this later damn I feel a little cheap now.
A bit old for a reply, but moreso for those searching UA-cam for an answer... Cusco tow hooks have an octagonal shaft that, while maybe not looking all that great sticking out of a round hole, there is enough clearance for moisture to dissipate reducing rust. Recovery hook 🤣 Be fine for rolling onto a tow truck on pavement. Not fine for recovery. Stock hook would be better and you wouldn't waste money on a ricer add on 🤣

Thanks again for publishing what is basically a how to guide to give my wife a car that will blow away my nephew's stupid highboy once we get to the gravel because we already murder it on pavement. ha ha haaaa
Somebody will steal that, cute eye bolt 😄 keep it in your trunk.

Not worried about it.
I'd put some "Never Seize" on the threads myself. Might want to remove it in 10+ years?
Theft proof or as easy as unscrewing it?
Why does it not fit front and rear on Crosstrek 2015?
I too pull out from the front
Does anyone know a good tow hook for 2011 subaru outback
I don’t have the same car but I have a 2012 Maxima and it has the tow cover door but there’s nothing to screw into?
Did you do both front and rear? Is one better than the other?
there’s a metal plate blocking the part i screw it into should i drill through it
I believe you can just pop that out w a finger or a screw driver, if I’m not mistaken. Seen a couple videos
Jesus you paid over 100 bucks for a tow hook that has the same purpose as the one that comes with the car for free?
Clearly not true. Have you even seen the factory tow hook?

Is this a real tow hook or just for looks? Cheers
Wht is tht used for anyways?
Hello, is the link to the tow hook accurate? It says its for a “rear” hitch on amazon.
Yes, as mentioned in the video it fits several other models of Subarus as a front tow hook to include the BRZ. 00:07 - 00:31
The tow hook you linked goes to the FRS model..does it matter?
That's the correct tow hook. As listed in the video it fits a few models.
Crazy price Price: $125.70
Hey Lance, What is the Sube Accent? Compared to you Forester size wize?
It's Subie's new big 3 row family SUV/crossover. Basically a Forester on steroids.
@@HighjakSecondary like my wife's Pilot overbthe CRv
Yeah, pretty darn similar. I think they're in the same class.
