Talk to Me Interview: The Cast & Filmmakers Behind Your New A24 Horror Obsession

- I wrote that title and I meant it. In the end, I did feel this way about a few Sundance 2023 films, but given the order I watched them in, Michael and Danny Philippou's Talk To Me was the very first film to light a fire in me. One that signals we’ve found something special at this year’s festival, and one that had me running around Park City telling everyone they absolutely had to see it.
Talk to Me involves an embalmed hand that gives its wielder the opportunity to willingly become possessed by a spirit. The keepers of that hand are Hayley (Zoe Terakes) and Joss (Chris Alosio), and they organize parties/sessions where teens can essentially get a quick high by holding the hand, saying “talk to me,” and letting a spirit in for 90 seconds or less. If you dare stay connected for longer than that, you run the risk of the spirit staying.
Not only does Talk to Me feature a fascinating and hugely entertaining core concept, but the Philippou brothers have assembled a stellar ensemble, all delivering magnetizing characters and absolutely crushing their intense, supernatural-powered scenes. In addition to amassing a slew of rave reviews out of Sundance, Talk to Me also caught the eyes of the folks over at A24, which appears to have acquired the North American distribution rights to the film.
In celebration of Talk to Me's festival debut, the Philippou brothers, Terakes, Sophie Wilde, Joe Bird, and Miranda Otto all visited the Collider Studio presented by Saratoga Spring Water in Park City to talk about their experience working on the Sundance standout.
Special thanks to our 2023 partners at Sundance including presenting partner Saratoga Spring Water and supporting partners Marbl Toronto, EMFACE, Sommsation, Hendrick’s Gin, Stella Artois, mou, and the all-electric vehicle, Fisker Ocean.

Literally one of the best horror movies for 2023
Just like the in the film, this movie stayed with me long after I left the theatre. It truly was a really great horror film, and it wasn't based on jump scares. It was the atmosphere, and the performances, and the direction. Just a really good film altogether. So yes I agree with best horror film out of 2023.
The best 😂 u shittin me made me scared asf and need no jump scares and that what Hollywood dick rides
I honestly think if this movie came out on streaming. It wouldn’t be getting this much praise. It would still be a good/great movie. But not quite one of the best horror movies of 2023
@@whitt6354please name any horror movie better than this in the past 2-4 years. I’m not saying this is THE best, but it’s definitely up there.
@@whitt6354which would you say is the best so far?
Joe Bird really made this movie scary for me, because he made you care for him. And i knew something bad was going to happen to him because he was so sweet. So i was freaked out worried about him the whole time. He also did amazing possessed and playing her mother.
It was so insane. His acting was so insane. The movie was so insane. Ugggghh takes my breath away
Man, yeah. Joe bird was a frickin badass in this role
Same here.
@@Plutogurlliterally no other words but this
the fact that they actually really manifested the sequel
It's the water; that's what it does 😅.
they said $2 million box office and then it made $4 million domestic on opening day alone and $10 million in opening weekend. so happy for them!!
I want.. no.. BEG to see more from Joe Bird and Sophie Wilde! Their acting took my breath away! Their performance left me speechless and I'm almost obsessed with this film. Most insane movie I've seen this year!!!
I know right, especially the scene where Joe is supposed to be possesed by Sophie's mom, I was like "damn this kid can act."
I gotta say man this interviewer is asking very good questions 🙌
Perri is the best interviewer. Her love for cinema and her genuine interest in the filmmaking process makes for relaxed, fun, and rewarding interviews.
Very much so
Perri is very good one of the best
It is so refreshing when new directors like this are given the freedom to introduce us to a completely new cast of people. On top of Miranda, who most know from things like Lord of the rings, the whole cast did a phenomenal job. The film already had a great script and premise, so the cast just elevated it to a whole new level. Amazing film!
It genuinely blows me away how good these kids are at acting, I’ve never heard of them before, but they come up from this new movie and just killed every single second of screen time they got. I’m desperately wanting a second movie of the hand, maybe find out how the hand originated? Something like that would be amazing but I guess it’s best to remain a mystery tho
They felt like real kids. That's the goal, but man, the atmosphere in this interview, which is probably the same during shooting, is fantastic. It feels like an incredible group of friends who somehow are skilled to make a movie. 😊
I've seen Zoe in a few other productions, 9 perfect strangers with Nicole Kidman is one...she's a great actress and super humble
Just watched it last night at a special screening. One of my new favorite horror movies, along with Barbarian, Hereditary, The Witch, Babadook, Midsommar and others. Absolutely loved it
It’s nice seeing talented UA-camrs get big.
I hope nothing but the best for their entry to the world of cinema.
Is it just me or is Zoe terakes so fine
onggg
YES
sequel sequel sequel!!! literally one of my favorite horrors ive seen in so long. so fresh
I have a crush on Joe Bird 🤭 he was so great with this film and I'm soft for his character
Can’t wait to see a directors or extended cut of this movie - loved the entire movie and only want more of it
Some of these questions were some I had after watching the film for the first time- such good ones!
IF the hand ends up being on A24s website, I will 100% grab one.
i need more interviews im obsessed with this film and the cast
I've seen it twice in cinemas and would do it again. This movie is better than any other. The actors also fit so well and it's something completely new than the normal rituals
My favorite film of the festival! So so so good!
Aside from Evil Dead I've been anticipating this movie the most this year. Pleasant surprise finding this in my feed.
My first time hearing the cast speak in a relaxed atmosphere, great interview, gotta be a part two of "Talk to Me".
I gotta say, I’ll shake this man’s hand some day fabulous movie go watch as soon as you can🙏💯
Great interview, with a lot of members of the cast, having fun, and the interviewer is natural, and you can see she's interested in the movie. All interviews should be like this one.
Just got done seeing this and I loved it. So well done. Can’t wait for the sequel
Just got out of the theater and it was soooo good Absolutely loved this movie!
Wow. Just saw the movie. Only screening in Vegas. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
Miranda Otto!!! Always love her
just saw this in the theaters last night, glad i did. on that note, this video is aging great
I want to see this movie right now!!
I really enjoyed the movie and Perri is my favorite interviewer. I loved the questions that were asked and the obvious cast chemistry!
Great interview and great chemistry and questions all around
fantastic interview, thank you for the good questions !!!! 🎉
Loved your videos please keep it up
I think, Talk To Me will end up in my alltime Top 20 of horror movies.
It was good to see Miranda Otto ☺︎
ONE OF THE BEST HORROR MOVIES THIS YEAR!!!
It’s great to see my favorite UA-camrs RackaRacka
Just watched the movie in the UK. Great horror film. Well done everyone
Watched it last night i enjoyed it so much!!! & the cast is perfect will be going to movies & see it again😆📽️🎞️🍿💯
Did you feel it was about drug abuse, peer pressure, and coping with depression?
No just teens getting a rush of tampering with the spiritual world has alot of messages very well made film🎉👌🏾
this movie was awesome!
Very helpful review. You've solidified my decision to see Talk to Me ASAP. However, I respectfully disagree about the state of horror films this year. I n particular, I loved Megan (I saw it a 2nd time streaming), Infinity Pool, The Boogeyman, and Cobweb.
Great questions by the interviewer
such a good movie!
just got back from watching the movie. It is wildly entertaining horror flick but I wish the movie to be slightly longer and more horror moments as well as deeper explanation about the hand and its limbo world they teased
I had to stop in the middle of the movie and come watch a making of to make sure riley was okay and i’m still terrified 😭
This movie was interesting, and a lot of people liked it. I'm sure it'll get a sequel.
Tbh, I rather there not be a sequel. The movie's success hinges a lot on the hand as a new, creative horror prop; a sequel will lack that pull.
@lac2275 I disagree. I'm curious about the hand and want to know more. I'm sure there are many others who feel the same way. Also, the directors said they have a whole world built, and they're passionate about the project. So I have faith that the second movie will be just as good if not better.
@@romesrepublicagree, there are so many different directions they can take
Dressing up as the hand for Halloween.
LMAO
Loved the movie!
Very creepy/disturbing film with excellent acting.
Look forward to the next movie
Ready for talk to me 2
This is riot
Immediately thought of Talk To Me when i heard this song😂❤❤
I watched this movie last night and I had to sleep with the light on. I'm 45 😅It was my own fault for watching it at 1am during a thunderstorm. The last movie that terrified me this much was Annabelle Creation, which also happens to star Mirando Otto. Anyway, Talk to Me is genuinely terrifying and the same can't be said for many horror movies these days. The actors are incredible but Joe Bird and Sophie Wilde are phenomenal. This is a movie that will stay with you for a while afterwards - as will certain scenes. Talk to Me is bound to get everyone talking. Definitely a fresh take on the demonic possession theme.
Hahah me too😂 every time I turned off the lights I kept thinking of the lady slumped in the corner of the room
I guess you really did manifest the sequel, since its been confirmed!
THE BEST MOVIE EVER 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 WELL WELL WELL DONNEEE👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I loved the film.
I just watched this movie after checking it's fantastic imdb review great horror movie loved it

Mia is so pretty
Im happy to see that Riley is okay....
Rackracka crazy congrats
racka racka omfg
I’ve been watching Racka Racka since the first Ronald McDonald video… and can’t believe they made this movie! So awesome.. great movie…
That kid LOVES his sister
💖💖
Sophie ❤
Best horror since hereditary
Where tha boy have cigarettes in first scene???
I felt is a real never acting
that movie was grosser than scary
4/10.. they never explained
how they received the scary
hand..very vague, lack storylines..i hope there will be
sequel;from the beginning..
how the hand came to be........
i agree, i’m also a little baby that needs everything explained to me, things being open to interpretation makes my little brain hurt because thinking too hard
looks like you need to watch the movie again because one of the buddies explained it how he got the hand. face palm
@@HazyChestNutzDo you mind letting me know how they came into possession of the Hand? I had to rush to the restroom shortly after the hospital scene. 👀
@ChildrenOfTheVibe the dude who stabbed his brother in the beginning gave it to him
@malcolmwos156 I saw the
ENTIRE MOVIE..but, what I meant
to say was..how did the "HAND"
came to their possession & I still
want to know..how the SPIRITS
& the HAND are connected..........
I really want a sequel/prequel..
Zoe Terakes will never be a man.
and you'll never be loved in your life
Real
You won’t either 😂😂
They are non-binary. Obviously it pisses you off to see someone living authentically. Die mad about it. ✌🏼
Does this random person's gender affect you in any way? I hope you manage to grow as a person and find a shred of empathy for other people. You don't have to understand people's gender, maybe just try not to be pointlessly cruel.
All you have to do is look at this cast and see why Hollywood is failing.
they're Australian.

@@OfficialMyDo Truth hurts. The musty smell? You oughta have that checked-out meat puppet.
What do you mean?
If they’re good actors, who cares. Stfu
