Theories say it was Jade who pushed her. My theory is that Mia was possessed with an illusion that made her think that Riley was in danger if he wasn't dead. Her mother is just another illusion to trick her into thinking she was doing the right thing. This all happened because Mia held the hand for more than 90 seconds and she herself became possessed by the hand and was trapped in the hand for others to talk to. The beginning of the movie is foreshadowing on how a possessed one becomes trapped in the hand once they are dead. Mia was acting differently ever since she was exposed to the hand for longer than 90 seconds; the guy who killed himself in the start of the movie was acting the same way Mia was acting with everyone; he killed himself and got trapped in the hand the same way Mia was trapped at the end of the movie. You can see in timer 2:30 Riley doing well after the incident. Everything was in Mia's head and that's what caused her death. This movie can be linked to the usage of drugs and how deeply they can affect people if they go overboard; you might feel good about it at first, but when you take too much, you start losing your mind.
Love the symbolism in this scene. In the same position of the road as the kangaroo at the beginning…and suffering in limbo for the rest of time. Such a fantastic friggin’ movie.
I think Riley would be fine, but Mia herself would still die. Ghosts already took ahold on her after that very first session when she held hand for over 90 seconds
Mia was not dumb , basically she was just a traumatized human. What's more sad is that after her people who knew her will hate her. Jade will never know that she did that under some influence. Her father will despise her for attempting to murder him. Riley will hate her too whom she loved like a lil brother . And it's not that she didn't mention that she's seeing things... She did say that some weird stuff is happening with her but her friends didn't pay heed. Her story is painfully sad

@@liaprim4058 I doubt that the teens in this movie sold it to someone and told them how to use it at that. Actually they wanted to destroy it. And I doubt they changed their minds. Not after all those incidents. So how do you know how to use such a thing? Without instructions given to you by someone who knows it? It's a rather unknown method of conjuring. Unlike the ouija board. Esp. if you bought it at the junk market. It's more likely to be used as decoration ( and work f.e. as a creepy ring holder ). The makers are preparing a second movie. I actually hope it's a prequel, telling us about the origins of that hand and how this all started.
@@Gaia_Seraphina remember that those same teens made tons of videos about how the hand works and stuff like that, and they clearly showed us those videos were trending and that's how this group of teens alos learned how to use it, maybe they wanted to destroy it yeah but they buried it and someone found it and something like that, i would know how to use it myself if those kind of things are available on social media, ofc the first thing to pop up to someones mind is search it up, something creepy like that bruh i would search how to use it
@@Gaia_Seraphina They're actually doing both a sequel AND a prequel. The prequel is actually supposed to be a screen life film of showing what happened with Duckett from the beginning of the movie. They've confirmed its already been shot and hope to release it soon. As for the sequel, they're currently writing it and it may explore the origins, while also continuing Mia's story. Or maybe continuing with Jade and Riley. Who knows? It's RackaRacka!
They’re making a second one, what if she’s the villain in the second, what if she’s got it stuck in her head that she needs to kill Riley to get back in her body or maybe her body is still alive, coma, and she’s killing people using the hand just trying to get back
The implications of this ending within the larger context of the film are wild too, like could her mother have somehow been involved with the hand and that’s why she did what she did? We don’t know how far back the hand dates and we know that it’s passed around…
It wasn't her mother. It was the drowned woman who she was possessed by too long pretending to be her mother. They throw hints at this throughout, like in the bathroom when you hear wet footsteps.
The way I see it the hand represents something deeper like recreational drug use. Once you use the “drug” for too long you’re addicted you start to spiral. Then when the next person is about to use the “drug” she’s there a former shell of herself. The user not understanding the dangers that drug can have.
Mia was being heavily manipulated by the spirits and was isolated by her friends when she started acting out. They shouldn’t have let her go over 90 seconds, or they should have been better friends.
she didnt get stuck because she went over 90 seconds. yes, she got haunted afterward, but that would have faded away. the problem is, mia used it again later that night to talk to her mom and slept with her mom without blowing the darn candle out. she must have had the door open for hours if not days. now, she had the possession ALL THE WAY open and she was haunted very strongly. it would have left if she left the hand alone and locked herself in a padded room for some time
Mia leaped, Jade had both her hands on the back of Riley’s chair. If she had pushed Mia from that angle and with force from the hill, then Riley would’ve wheeled into the street as well.
If you watch most horror movies the “main character” gets the worst outcome. You are supposed to REALLY root for the last character just for your hopes to be shattered. What you said proves this is a great horror movie.
Era la misma mano cabe resaltar que vio la recuperación de raley como si hubieran sido segundos y eso pudo haber tardado semanas incluso meses y ella pudo haber estado en la obscuridad por inclusive años
Mia had no way of knowing Riley was going to start banging his head all over the place. Mia was possessed a little over time herself & didn’t understand the residual effects until later.
If you were a teen and had a chance to talk to a dead loved one that you were grieving (like missing more than anything) wouldn’t you? Even if it was for a couple of seconds? Just think about it for awhile, put yourself in her shoes.
Mia wasn’t being vindictive. They were all teens messing with spiritual elements they didn’t understand. Riley begged to participate. Mia said the experience was amazing for her &, probably, had pity for Riley. Mia was unaware of how much her denial & grief were clouding her judgment. Mia was vulnerable because of her mother’s d e a t h & had no way of knowing what would happen to Riley.
I ate 500 mg edibles and watch this worst experience of my life I felt like I was part of the movie this shit was super scary man glad I rewatch it for the second time to actually enjoy it
I think it's a metaphor for drug addiction. People mess with drugs over and over and don't realize it's problem until its to late. Then you're body decides it's to much and you're fucked. Mia just has a unhealthy attraction to using the hand because or her mother passing.
@@alexinpower she was just didn’t LISTEN she just overstepped her boundaries too much when it came to her friends brother which ultimately almost got him killed
They messed up the ending they set up earlier. Mia and friends had been playing with the medium’s severed left hand. One of them asks about the medium’s other (right) hand and a remark is made that it must be “out there, somewhere”. If the ending had been properly executed, Mia’s ghost should have been summoned by partygoers using the right hand not the left hand. How would they have gained possession of the left hand, since we last saw it in Riley’s hospital room when Mia was using it?
That was probably more of a dumb joke made by the 2 previous hand owners, than a serious setup. As for how the Hand ended up there, it's likely it got picked up or tossed away, the instructions on how to use it being carried through the videos previously took.
@@jorcornel558 So, you would prefer to believe that this medium was born with only one hand? No hospital is just going to toss a hand found at a crime (abduction) scene away. They would leave it for investigating police to examine. The cops would take it away as evidence. In trying to learn the motive for Mia’s actions leading up to her death, they would have to ask Jade and any friends she’d contacted in the two or three days leading up to the incident what they can tell the police about this obviously occult curio that she brought with her. Those doofus friends are clearly too stupid not to try and claim ownership of the hand and brag about what it can do. 🤨
@@user-fg7yh3ez8h Uh it looks like a porcelain hand in a room with tons of art and other possessions. The police don't bag and tag everything in a room.
The way I interpreted it is time moves differently in the realm Mia is in now. Riley healed extremely fast and was back to his old self in a matter of seconds. That same hand could’ve passed to different groups over years or decades finally making its way to a Spanish-speaking country. Even more tragic that way if Mia has no idea how much time has passed. I’m excited to see the sequel and hope it’s not a whole new set of characters.
@@Zzz12373 Well, you interpreted it wrong. Unless, you think people in 2043 are going to wear the same fashions they had in 2023. Actually, I had the infuriating experience of rewatching it, today and realized that I misremembered where Mia last put the left hand. She put it down in front of her bedroom window. It was still there when Jade found Max in the bedroom after he’d been stabbed by Mia. That doesn’t change the unlikelihood of the left hand winding up at a party in Spain or Latin America.

@@fentastic1031 Mia believed that was the case. But it wasn't. Cole was the one in the right when he said a body naturally expels spirits. But by that point Mia was too paranoid and wanted to mess with the hand more for a more immediate fix (which was ultimately the worst possible thing to do)

For me the film kind of tapered off for me during the final third, but damn that closing shot gave me goosebumps. Even though looking back on it I should have seen it coming a mile away, I was completely shocked that she was on the other side of it. That ending will stick with me for a while.
its so morbid. She’s now permanently stuck in a place that she tried to get riley out of. Now she has the live the rest of her soul’s existence in limbo.
It is the fact that you know what the ending is going to be but after several potential ending ideas you are given, you forget the original ending idea you had and not only that but the whole scene it’s just so goood
I still think Riley is possessed too. He went over the 90 seconds, that doesn't just go away.

He didn't go to heaven cos he didn't die from the injury. He was on his way home

I doubt that the teens in this movie sold it to someone and told them how to use it at that.
They’re making a second one, what if she’s the villain in the second, what if she’s got it stuck in her head that she needs to kill Riley to get back in her body or maybe her body is still alive, coma, and she’s killing people using the hand just trying to get back
She’ll be an awesome villain
It could have nothing to do with her though. It might focus on this group at the end, or another group altogether .
A prequel is coming first and then a sequel
@@seanc41556a prequel might be better. Leave her afterlife situation up for interpretation and wonder.
Or she could warn them all to stop using the hand

Problem with that other bit is they tried getting it off of her but the ghost that was in control didn’t want to let go....
she didnt get stuck because she went over 90 seconds. yes, she got haunted afterward, but that would have faded away. the problem is, mia used it again later that night to talk to her mom and slept with her mom without blowing the darn candle out. she must have had the door open for hours if not days. now, she had the possession ALL THE WAY open and she was haunted very strongly. it would have left if she left the hand alone and locked herself in a padded room for some time
If you slow it down her friend 100% pushed her even after she let go of the chair
I LOVE YOU ZACHERY SAUCE

Mia leaped, Jade had both her hands on the back of Riley’s chair. If she had pushed Mia from that angle and with force from the hill, then Riley would’ve wheeled into the street as well.

If you were a teen and had a chance to talk to a dead loved one that you were grieving (like missing more than anything) wouldn’t you? Even if it was for a couple of seconds? Just think about it for awhile, put yourself in her shoes.
